Dark Soul's: Prepare to Die Edition (PC)

Played this for two hours and then gave up.

DSFix instantly crashes the game for me, and the xbox controls were rubbish.

Could be the best game ever, but playing at 1024*768 is unacceptable. So so so dissapointed after reading this thread for months.

Is there any way to transfer saves?
I installed from the disk as i got the nice retail version, but I didn't realise it came with a steam version also. I continued using the disk version, but it says it'll only take a bit less than an hour to install from steam (I might aswell install for ease of use, etc.) Of course, I don't want to loose my saves, so how do i transfer them to the steam version? IS it possible?

I tried, it was buggy. Sometimes it worked, other times it didn't.

Think I had to go offline on steam, move the saves over. Start the game. Cancel the corruption fix attempt. See if my game would load, if it did. Save, close game and go online with steam to update the new sync game saves.

Again, I don't think I actually got this to work.

I would imagine so. The save file is located in C:\Users\YourUsername\My Documents\NBGI\DarkSouls\YourGFWLUsername

The file is called DRAKS0005.sl2, so just take a copy of it, install the Steam version, then copy the file into the new location Steam uses for the save file (which I don't know the location of actually, but a search should find it). That should sort you out.

It's not that, I just have no idea what to do haha, so I get so overwhelmed by it, I end up giving up!
I've already posted a mini starter guide several pages back on the best way for newcomers to get into the game, that'll get you moving in the right direction long enough to get to grips with the game. If you can't find it I can repost it if needed.

I'm good with the game, understand the mechanics pretty well. It's just past the gaping demon, I am lost. No idea where to go, what to aim for. Nothing. And it scares me haha. So I think I just need to man up and get on with it.

Ummm, 30 I think, something like that. Will play some more today, I think I'm going to ditch the Drake Sword lol, after watching a few walkthrough videos, I heard countless times that using it past the gargoyles is just not good as you don't learn different weapon types properly. Like the Estoc which can be used with a shield raised and stuff.

Someone mentioned this a couple of times in this thread. I headed their warning but decided to ignore it haha. So yea, time to wise up.

Turn off AA and motion blur in game.

I gave up on this ages back due to the keyboard and mouse issues like many others, but after giving the mousefix a whirl (http://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~petska/) together with dsfix, it's at least made this playable...and in fact enjoyable in a sadistic sort of way. I still haven't a clue about where the hell I am half the time and where I should go to open up certain places etc, but if push comes to shove there's always youtube I guess...

Soooooooo, I have cleared Capra, now I am in the depths, killed the rat, killed all frogs so I could get the drops, now at the merchant with the crystal stuff, might buy the crystal sword and use that as a main weapon...

Yeah even with that mouse fix I still think this game has to be played with a 360 pad.
