Dark Soul's: Prepare to Die Edition (PC)

Also, don't forget, you can still block when using 2-hand, it's just you take more damage than using a shield but it's a lot more mitigation than taking a straight hit, you'll soon get the hang of switching between shield and 2-hand while fighting as a lot of the mobs power attacks leave them wide open to a sneaky 2-handed hit before you switch back to shield if needed.

Ahh ok didnt realise that will give it a go tnite then! Im guessing im not at the poibt where i can upgrade any weapons yet? I assume spending souls is about getting a good balance between upgrading weapons and actual stats/level

I understand the not hand holding that is fine I knew what I was getting into before I started but I am just unsure on what/where I am meant to be doing/going. So often it feels like I hit a brick wall down a certain way due to something being so much bigger and more powerful than me.

Even though I have died countless times I still have this urge to carry on playing :/
Moothead2 not sure what level I am at the moment tbh I will check in a bit.

trust me i felt exactly the same at one point. I ended up loving the game. As you have found a blacksmith, i would suggest you grind a bit around the bonfire there to bank some souls which you can use to upgrade a weapon. Pick a weapon that scales with your primary stat. Once you get an upgraded weapon, killing stuff will become so much easier, and you can start putting points into endurance and vitaility. Keep your equip load under 50% too so that dont waddle around like a penguin.

Don't be afraid to grind a bit, not only does it get you souls to level up and upgrade weapons, but it also lets you practice combat on easier enemies. Take baby steps, dont try to cover too much ground in one session as you will end up encountering something that destroys you, which results in frustration. Explore the area around each bonfire for a while before moving on to the next bonfire.

Igot to a blacksmith last night, first time.

I took the advice from above and got the drake sword but not using it, so just upgraded my basic longsword as its the only othe one i have atm

What should i spend points in stat wise? I assume a mix of str, vit, dex and endurance?

Thanks

My personal preference of spending souls is:

Weapon Upgrades > Endurance > Strength = Dex (may change depending on weapon scaling) > Vitality.

This might be different for newer players so you might want to upgrade Vitality first and Endurance later but I'll always to say upgrade your weapon as much as possible before levelling any stats. Upgrade all of these pretty evenly for now until you personally decide what you want more of. If you feel you need more HP out more into Vitality etc.

Thanks man

Since posting, i looked up and found endurance is very important so i may go for that and weapons first as you have suggested! So its worth me upgrading the long sword for now then?

Started playing this again and went with deprived because it looked funny :p

Got the Drake sword quickly and that made everything a lot easier. Killed the gargoyles and moonlight butterfly so far, doing Capra next :D

Is this the worst port in the history of worst ports ? :D

So I've got DSfix which allows me to play full screen 1920* and everything looks pretty good although I have no idea what key does what !! Tried the xbox controller but it won't work.

I would appreciate any tips and tweaks that would help thanks.

Xbox controller should work fine, hmm. Have you got any other game controllers plugged in? Wheels, joysticks, etc.

I have the latest drivers for the controller installed and it works fine having tested in Sleeping Dogs. The only other device I have plugged in is a razer naga mouse.

Yeah, not help I know m8 but the pad works out of the box. As soon as you start the game you can press a button on the pad to use it. So the problem lies on your end somewhere I am afraid. One thing to do is check the files via steam just incase.

I wish it was just a problem my side however perusing many forums it's a very common problem which many people also had. On booting the game up I can use the controller to access GFWL so it is definitely working. I'm sure a few tweaks here and there or a hammer will solve it.
