Dashcams. Who uses them?

Looks good. How did you power it off the lights circuit? Is that possible with the 0801?

My mirror's not powered but the windscreen wiper rain sensor is already behind the rear view mirror and that obviously has a power supply that's only on when the ignition is on. Would be much easier and tidier than running it down pillars and into the cig lighter!

I just spliced into the light circuit, it's only live when the car is active (being driven) unlocked, and keys are within proximity.

It works out quite well. The only problem seems to be, if I power on more than 1 interior light, the camera goes into shutdown mode.

There are a shed load of lives in that ceiling area though, so I will try another to see if it will allow a bit more current draw. If that fails, I will just pull up a small gauge cable up through the trim panels from the cigarette lighter live. I am fairly sure there is a cable for a power sunroof (my car has no sunroof) so will have a dig around with the multimeter and see what I can find.

However, since I never use the lights when I am driving, its not a major issue for now, and so much more tidy.

In regards to the 801, I don't see why not. I am considering running a rear facing 801 as the next little project. If I do that, I might stick in a direct battery cable (its in the boot) with a relay running off the interior lighting just for the rear :)

I could actually do the same for the front mounted camera, there is a shed load of room in the roof panels!

Running a cable in the headlining (it only needs to be in the edge) and down behind the A pillar trim (again only in the edge of the trim) is pretty easy. Then just add a second 12v socket behind the dash somewhere and plug it in

That's what I've done in mine. Used a fuse that was for some towing related accessory that I didn't have fitted and an add a circuit fuse holder from Amazon.

I'm gonna get some 'piggy-back' fuse thinngys and a hidden lighter socket in the fuse box to power mine (when I get it next year) so it's then a semi-permanent installation that I can easily whip out in 2 years when I trade my car!

I've been seeing a lot of close calls lately so I think its time I should invest in a cam.

What are the 0801 and 0803 like in terms of video quality? Any noticable differences between them, also is there a better product for the money of the said above?

Cheers.

I love my Mobius and was 100% originally going for an 803. All the problems with the 0803 and general niggles put me off.

Mobius has been working perfectly since I installed it, it's hard to see, video quality is very good and it just does the job without any fuss I couldn't trust the mini 0803 as there seem to be plenty of problems with the thing not recording, looping not working etc.

The most important thing is a reliable camera that works all the time, not comparing pixels and minute differences in image quality on an internet forum :D

Oh, and it's really cheap. Got mine from Joovu along with the stick on ball windscreen mount. 3m USB cable connects it to the power socket under my glove box where it comes on as soon as I open the car.

Ive also read the stories regarding the 0803 but ive got two and they've both been working fine for ages. Very discrete and good vid quality, every now and again ive pulled the cards to check theyre working so I know theyre all good.

I agree reliability is important, but I thought it was known that the battery will be damaged by long term car-cam use in the mobius, hence he need for the capacitor adaptation?

Do they do a proper adhesive mount it?

801 arrived. Really impressed so far! Hard wiring it, did you splice open the USB or car charger cable?

Not worked on the 801, but does it have an in-line fuse in the car charger? If so, I would use that, and keep the fuse.

On my Blackvue, i just snipped off the cigarette lighter plug, kept the in-line fuse and spliced them into the cables in the roof.

I have a Ford Focus which as most know has a heated front screen - When I fitted my Roadhawk a year ago I found it took about 5 miles to aquire GPS signal - it did come with a magnetic aerial but never fitted it till today - on each lower corner of windscreen there is a gap where there are no heating elements so just placed it on dashboard in left corner - turned on and instant green GPS light - was on quicker then camera light - so now stuck down and cable routed.

While at it I rehashed bracket for Snooper and by doing that I have snooper offset from center of bracket and GPS aerial is now out from heating elements so that comes on in about a minute.

Good hours work :):)

I'll have a looksie and report back. I may have another spare cigarette -> usb that does anyway.

Just be aware, if it can use a direct USB cable to power it, it will be a 5v device, so plugging it into a 12v source will (at best) mean it will not work, or (at worst) fry it.

So check the output of the car power supply, as it probably is designed to reduce the voltage..

I'm after some advice for a 2 channel dashcam. I'm looking at the blackvue DR650GW-2CH or something similar. I looked at the backview DR750LW-2CH but I'd prefer something smaller and I like the formers bullet shape.

Anyone got any suggestions on any dashcams that have a similar form factor, perhaps with full hd on the rear as well? Any advice appreciated.
