Dashcams!

On my 805, in the time date settings.. the very first digit can be changed to move hourly increments forward and back so it shows the correct time depending on GMT , BST etc.

Yeah found this out a while back, seems even if you set the time and date in the menu, the moment it gets a GPS lock it sets the correct time and date anyway and remains as such thereafter. So the time and date is only useful if you're using it without the base, which is pointless as it lasts minutes on battery :p

Also, flashed the custom firmware with 24Mbps bitrate, worked a treat and in slow movement areas it remains 24Mbps.

as im installing a satnav in my car to, I didn't want to use the supplied cigarette lighter lead, so I thought id try using my 3 meter one and its too short!
going to order a 4m usb lead, but do I go flat cable or not ? price is dead cheap for either

Focus 2009 (face lift)

oh and Howard, my cigarette lighter power (front and rear) do not ever go off, is that supposed to be like that do you know? I tested it with a car voltage meter that plugs into cig lighter and checked it after 30 mins and it was still on

The 0806 arrived while I was away yesterday... already applied that firmware you guys have linked to above and it looks good.

It actually already came with the latest official firmware from May :)

Not sure if I backtracked or not with this March one... quick test and I can't see the difference.

Will get it mounted tomorrow and get some proper videos of actual driving :D

I noticed an extra nicely thought addition in the Boxster... there is a 12v cigarette lighter socket in the passenger footwell, hiding just behind and below the glovebox... so the fuse-bypass i've ordered is redundant & it's an extra doubly good job because the fuse box is in the driver side footwell...

I've got the A118/B40 wedge upfront and I found it's discreet works great however it kills the DAB radio.

However trying a USB adapter into the power socket the radio works fine (seems the standard power supply for the A118/B40 wedge is rubbish and interferes with radio).

I'm going to fit the same solution in the back (my car has a socket in the dash, for the back passengers and in the boot) so wiring will be easy. Two discreet cameras.

the latest B40's come with a new power lead that sorts this problem out

nice place for Porshe to put it !

It is! Buuuuuut... I've just discovered that it's an always-on port (whereas the cigarette lighter between the seats goes on and off with ignition) :(

Got the 0806 installed today... quite happy with the image quality... although I managed to get it off angle by 3-4 degrees somehow :( darn...

The install is OK at least... if I'd had something to keep it stuck in there without leaving residue behind... the cable would be almost completely hidden... apart from the part where it loops around the A-pillar.

Due to using the sticky clips... It's poking out ever so slightly in a few places. Quite happy with the install though... the visual impact is minimal... it's visible but not too intrusive for me. Would be great to get it really tucked in behind the trim though... I'm wondering if you can get black blu-tac or something similar that would do the job... just don't want it to get lost back there or get too stuck in.

Can't see the camera itself at all from the driver's seat... and none of the FOV is affected by the bit behind the mirror. There's a little bit of a rattle on the audio though... I'm wondering if maybe I put it a teeny bit too close to the mirror and it's just touching one bumps and things... it came with quite a few 3M pads... so I might try re-mounting it tomorrow and see if that improves things.

Couple of pics:

Can just about see the clips and a little bit of cord...

Personally I'd tuck the cable into the windscreen trim so it's completely invisible, just looks neater/pro install that way!

I've re-done the sticker too, applied it first for the flattest most OEM looking fit, then stuck the base on that. No air gaps.

My mounting is such that I can see the LEDs if I move my head left, which is important in-case it stops recording or there's an error for whatever reason.

Just read through the three pages, is there any more recent recommendations for front + rear cameras? The one linked to is from a review almost a year ago.

Tempted to re-mount to put in the 3* angle spacer thing... but I just went down to fiddle with it & it's so well stuck it'll take some force or a scraper or something to get it off again...

I was hoping to tuck the cable back further... it only just goes in & then it's not well stuck-in... so a couple of bumps and the whole thing will fall out unless it's secured somehow.

Might be possible to take the trim off and get it behind there... but I wouldn't know how and I'd rather see a little bit of cable / couple of clips than risk wrecking the trim.

Glad it was raining tonight while I mounted the 0806 else I'd probably have mounted it in a place that the windscreen wipers don't cover! I must have had about 10mm of spare cable left, lucky!

Re-mounted... got it right this time.

Realised what I did wrong last time... I lined the camera up using the mini screen with the front wings of the car rather than the horizon or another object that was relatively flat to the car.

This time I used the garage door while in the garage and pretty much straight to it & seem to have got it pretty much spot on.

Stuck the pad to the windscreen first this time (thanks for the tip mrk) and got it air bubble free this time :)

Still seems to be the best recommendation if you want small satellite cameras, although audio isn't the best. I emailed the manufacturer a couple of weeks ago asking if an updated version one was due out anytime soon but they never responded so I went for the current model K1S, as my rear window is tiny.

There's a few more suggestions here if you don't mind larger cameras
