Dat beard

I bought some beard balm to try after seeing people mention it in this Thread, waste of time. I'll stick with beard oils, far easier to apply and I can actually see a difference in my beard using it unlike the balm.

I think balms and oils are relative to the person using them, they both moisturise the hair and make it softer, but they have different uses.

If I remember correctly, Balms will provide more hold to your beard to keep it in style easier, if you have a particularly thin beard, it will also help to give it a thicker appearance.

Oils will cleanse the skin beneath the beard, moisturising it to prevent itching if you're prone to dry skin. It's also easier to work in than a balm, so it's a lot less effort.

Since I am prone to dry skin I stick with the oil, as it keeps my face moisturised and I don't get an itchy face.

I don't know what just came over me. I just had the inclination to go upstairs and shave my beard off.

I'm cleanly shaven and I hate it! I am wounded, not sure why I did it! :-(

I did that after being 2 months in. Take the positive from it, you regret it but at least now you know for sure you really do want a beard!

Out of interest are what the reasons of people in this thread for growing a beard? Is it because you find it manly? as a fashion thing? cant be bothered to groom? religious?

I followed the herd up here in IT support land lol, I am still too lazy t groom it though so I just keep it short with an electric:D

Laziness, then decided I liked it, now I don't know what I could legally sit and stroke in public if I got rid of it.

For those of you into beard oils, make em yourself and save some cash ;)

For what you get from so-called beard oils from brands is ridiculously overpriced all because it has a name.

All you need is some essential oils and your set for a few quid at most, rather than paying £20+ for them in a small bottle.

You could also add in some Jojoba and Vitamin E oil and your set to rock an even better looking beard

Mine was purely medical, no amount of creams, tablets, or alternative treatments could keep my acne under control. The moment I put the shaving kit down and stopped conforming to the clean shaven brigade it cleared up. Never looked back.

I don't like the look of me without a beard, I have a small pea head and it looks silly without any form of stubble, stubble allows definition to my jaw line.

Also, the beard part is purely a fun thing. Not aesthetic or purposeful, it's just fun growing a giant beard.

I like the way I look with a beard, otherwise I look about 7. I think it suits me. Beards are cool. I get severe beard envy, so the best way to counter that is having a beard. Beards are cool.

Mine is just an experiment and want to see what it looks like :D

Just fancied it.

Because Beard, Bro.

All of the above, basically.

I've always kind of wanted one and due to being a bit lazy figured I'd just give it a go, worst case if I didn't like it, get clippers out and off it goes.
I'm liking it though so want to take care of it and whilst I had been trimming it every now and then to keep it all the same length I'm now just leaving it to do it's thing whilst trimming the neck and top of the cheeks else I look like a bit of a wrongun.

It's interesting how perceptions change, not too long ago beards were seen as "eww" "urgh" and unsightly, I think that perception started in the 19th or 20th century, now it has become socially acceptable, I don't know if its just a trend, so called experts claim it is, but going by the comments above, clearly not everyone grows one for fashion.

How many here would keep a mustache only? :D

I always used to just have stubble, but couple of years ago I had a few bald patches start up... a little alopecia. I can't stand being clean shaven, so I grew the beard to cover up the bald spots.

I did try for Movember, but my moustache is very blond, whereas the rest of my beard is a lot darker, so a moustache looks utterly invisible unless you're about a foot away.

A beard ensures that the whole lot is noticed. :)

My girlfriend went travelling for 5 months and I decided not to shave or cut my hair during the time she was away (No idea why) I lasted about 2/3 months before I shaved but decided to shape my goatee, she said she loved it when she came back and have kept it ever since.

Since then I have started to get real beard envy when I see people with impressive bears so am toying with the idea of growing a full hobo beard + it will keep my warmer on my motorbike but this will start at the end of August this year due to getting married in August.
