Dawn of War 3?

Is it really MOBA? If so then what are they doing with the franchise.

DOW1 was classic RTS, perfect tbh
DOW2 was RPG, marmite gameplay but felt a bit too lacking most of the time

..now people say it's changing again?

It's really nothing like a MOBA.

reading through the horus herosy books atm, and the dow1 classic rts gameplay doesnt match the books, mostly they would deploy a lot of troops by drop pod or drop ship. then wreck stuff :D

The trouble is no game, tabletop or otherwise matches the fluff. A bog standard marine would basically be enough to wipe out an ordinary guard army for example. They can barefisted punch through a tank!
Not to mention that their guns are essentially rpg launchers.
Oh and they can run at 60 mph...

Balance is important though, I mean in DoW1 the Necrons should have literally wiped the floor with everyone but I appreciate balance is important so I let it slide because it was awesome fun!

you could upgrade units, and choose between choasyness or not

It does actually match as the formation of space marine chapters changed after the Civil War. DOW is set in the 40k era which means a cap at 1000 for the entire chapter.

Yeah but the Imperial Guard outnumber the Space Marines by a ridiculous factor.

They do. But in any of the games - they don't. They're also meant to have the best equipment etc. yet IG tanks are way better! Just look at the Chimera compared to the bloody Rhino.

If they tried to do an RTS game that way, it would either make the Space Marine/Necron army so small it's not fun to play, or the IG/Ork/Tyranid army so big it just isn't feasible to use so I understand and accept that it's just what they have to do.

Shame it appears to be more of a moba feel than the original rts. Been looking forward to this for a while as I'm short of games to play and looks like i'll be waiting for bargain bin pricing :(

I am pretty disappointed with DOW3, i remember DOW1 with such amazing nostalgia, and i love the apocalypse mod for it

DOW3 does feel very moba, even if the mechanics are not exact replica of MOBA, the art style etc seems to reinforce that perception, which i feel isn't very adaptable to a 40k scene etc

Personally i will be sticking with warhammer Total war as i feel this seems to be going in the right direction for warhammer franchise :)

Also what is with the unit customization of tactical marines? it shouldn't be a choice between 5 dudes with las cannons in a squad than another with heavy bolters etc?

even the simplest things are not correct

Well steam reviews are looking bad, main complaint is that the game is totally multiplayer focussed and the initial campaign missions are dull. Think I'll keep it under 2 hours in case a refund is on the cards!
