***Dayz: Stand Alone Thread***

I am done with standalone. Porting to console has sealed it's fate to me.

What? How can you be so close minded? If anything, this may help speed up development and will be beneficial to the progress of the game. I highly doubt they just decided to port it to PS4, Sony probably proposed an offer, which means money, which can then be used to higher a bigger team, etc., speeding up development, amongst other things.

It probably is a little closer minded.

For me though, it shows they're just about getting even more money for this unfinished game. Core game play mechanics (melee, zombie pathways...) have been ignored time and time again for a few more hats. I know the arma engine very well, and I honestly believe that what this game is capable will not be realised on this engine. The creator even announced some time ago he would be leaving the project before its even finished.

The cynic in me thinks a port to consoles is going to see the game dumbed down in a large way, and a huge focus to work on that platform, hindering the pc's advances.

The 'mod' changed the face of gaming in a huge way only a few years ago, and it showed so much potential but it's not been achieved. Sony will have no incentive to better the pc version, they'll want it profitable for their platform, sod the millions they've already made from us gullible pc owners.

He said he would leave when it hits Beta, Beta means feature complete or at least it used it anyway... So just optimizing/tweaking here and there left. Now I hate Dean spaz Rocket with a passion but he did say he would stay till Beta, tbh I wish he would go now and let someone else take control as lead dev or w/e he calls himself these dayz.

The best thing to happen to the original mod (after its inception) was dean handing it over to someone else. It came on leaps and bounds then.

SA is still not as feature rich as the mod, only recently have basics like fires and animals appeared. At their current rate it would take around another 3 years to reach beta.

This over and over. We can only hope this happens but Dean likes to be in the spot light to much.

Yeah gee I didn't think of that, all they really needed was some money all along... like that massive up-front payment they got from the early access release

Exactly... a whole untapped market of players who they can get some more cash out of

he goes in december .

only reason Sony brought this is to tie up the zombie survival market on ps4.

they now have the two main titles and xbox doesnt.

so if there project H1z1 bombs they have Dayz still. win, win for them.

it should take about 8 weeks to port it over to console.

there was a big thread on the SA forums admins removed it.

he did say till christmas time ish somewhere and think they were hoping for beta to be done december but i cant see it.

no vehicles done yet or even in testing. same as barricading and most big items will need 3 months min testing and thats each and you have the time to make and work on the objects.

so being done with all the other items aswell for december would be cutting it very fine.

What confuses me about Sony obviously helping getting Dayz on to the PS4 is, H1Z1!

Obviously Sony will fire that onto the PS4 as well, surely they won't want competing games of the same genre when one of those games is their actual product, along with the micro transactions that they are going to have for that!

same as other companies buying out rivals.

if they have the exclusive over eggbox one and both main titles how can they lose? they cant. theyll sell crap loads more consoles and eggbox has nothing to compete with it.

its nothing to do with pc more getting one over eggbox .

I see this differently.

If Sony are involved, I can see development speeding up.

The £20 million alpha buyins didn't help speed it up though
