***Dayz: Stand Alone Thread***

I can't bring myself to play this, it's been quite a while but when you're killed and lose all your valuable gear down to a glitch it has really soured the experience.

Will always look at this as a major missed opportunity, if only they got it right... it could have been so much better.

Is there a single player option?

thanks

Just right click 'DayZ' in Steam and choose 'Play Offline Mode'.

A few issues atm with it, pressing ESC isnt bringing up the options menu, and game progress isnt saved, all will be fixed in the future, also offline is handy for modders etc.

Nout about being an alpha male and more the game being nothing but a walking simulator when playing by yourself.

Offline or Single Player Mode is good for new players to get used to the game instead of diving right in and getting killed by bandits in the first 2 minutes, its also good for testing graphics settings without worrying about other players interrupting you setting up and finding the best settings to run on :)

I suppose for testing graphics and what not but I don't think I'd have the same buzz playing it if I knew there was no other players on the server. Going to the airfields Cherno/Elektro was fun because you never knew if someone else would be there and if there was, would they be a bandit or a hero?

My favourite evening I spent on the mod a friend and I spent about 2 hours tracking and stalking another group who were stupid enough to communicate over open coms. We tracked them down and followed from about a kilometre away with our ghillie suits and snipers until they lead us to their base. Good times.

Beta didn’t last long. Officially out of early access and V1.0 is to be released on 13/12/18.

Are there any woods left to hide in those days? Can you get off the coast without going hypothermic or being eaten by the rubber-banding and teleporting zombies that can detect you from 500 metres away?

I've not played it in a couple of weeks now (I would if i could) but back then I don't think any temperature things were active, zombies were vicious but as they should be I.e not clipping through walls and not hitting you when they were metres away, and they certainly didn't have unreasonable detection distances.

It's not perfect by a long way but compared to where it was, it is day and night. Game performance is fantastic, even in towns. More loot and crafting, vehicles, modding introduced, custom servers. it isnt quite as clunky but the gameplay is essentially the same. Survival is easier with more loot and weapons are not as hard to obtain, Been playing it a lot this week and enjoying it for the first time since standalone was introduced and I've had it since day one.

Nice to hear!

Got a new pc coming on Monday so once that’s set up I might jump on!

You on the OcUK discord?

Gotta love Bohemia :p

The only thing they've got about right is the performance - which honestly, considering how the game looks, should have been there to start with, and even so, still has some minor problems here and there. Graphics are meh, passable, but nothing more.

The UI is terrible (if I don't have the pistol equipped I have to go through 7 steps to reload it, 6 if it's equipped), the combat is still clunky and it feels like they've pulled a Bethesda with the "engine upgrade", the AI is bad, the gameplay is still kinda meh (but if you're into Battle Royale type of game with zombies, some survival elements and no time limit, should be fine), game world is build in pure Bohemia's style (like an airsoft playground and not like a place where people and animals lived), still buggy (I can't get into the options, as soon as I click it I get a nice CTD; I've shot a zombie that was near a house, but bullets were hitting only that wall, had to go full Shining on the monster) and so on. If it would have been the first game of its kind, I may have said "ok, let's see what you bring next", however after so much time and many other games, this just feels like a fail. A failed opportunity to do so much more.

Sadly, Bohemia is used to have its loyal fan base that would find excuses for the problems ArmA series has (more so sine it's basically the only game in that genre) and even adding content to keep it alive longer and make it more interesting (just like some do for Bethesda), but times have changed and this is no ArmA. Hopefully they won't mess things up with ArmA 4.
