***Dayz: Stand Alone Thread***

if your implying that boxman is or anyone else is just blindly following the game i couldn't disagree with you more

and quite frankly, all the experts here who seem to have full insider knowledge of how to build and how long it takes to build game engines etc annoys me especially when people who actually enjoy the game even in it's current state just get flamed for having there own opinion on the game..

I only play it from time to time, and quite enjoy the atmosphere the game generates yes it has umpteen amounts of faults but still isn't fair on anyone that speaks out and wants to show that they do enjoy the game, only to be met with insults..
The atmosphere is like nothing else in any game I've played - minutes to several days worth of looting up, to run into a squad at NWAF or a random player in the middle of nowhere, I just haven't found that same adrenaline rush as in DayZ.

Unreal Engine 4 took five years to develop. Arma II's Real Virtuality 3 engine, which was 10 years in development when Arma 2 came out, was around 15 years old by the time Standalone began development... so those trying to compare the Mod to Standalone are on a hiding to nothing, IMO. The devs realised that RV3 engine just couldn't do what had been planned so this is why they spent the last (approximately) 3 years designing the Enfusion engine, whilst running the previous engine in parallel, all the while keeping the game as patched as it could be.

Nobody can judge what 0.62 is now as being the final product as there are still elements of the old legacy engine - once that is out of the way in 0.63 then we can see what all the time has been spent on.

Of course it's not ideal having such a wait but it would have been pointless in doing all that work only for the game to be less than was intended.

I'm not at all, I've said multiple times that enjoying the game is not what I have an issue with.
I do have an issue with the way it has been developed, the time it has taken and the way people defend the devs not the game, not once have I put someone down for enjoying the game.
I have said on this thread already that the comms by devs has been terrible at times - it is getting better now and given they are only now advertising by having a presence at Gamescon, they must be pretty confident in what Beta will bring.

If beta is rubbish then doubters will be proved right, if not then we can expect an amazing game.

Modding will breathe new life into the game but I'm certainly not putting my hope in mods fixing a broken game, if things don't improve. If vanilla, once beta hits, cannot get the most performance out of the engine then I fail to see how a mod could, in which case I will be giving my fair share of criticism.

Dear Survivors!

Today is a very exciting day for all of us here at the DayZ team. Coming closer to five years of Early Access Alpha development, we are now moving the PC version of DayZ into BETA. What does that mean for the future of DayZ and how long do we intend to run the BETA? Watch our new Dev Log video to find out more.

Just a little heads up for those who dont follow the DayZ progress like i do :D

still one of the funniest things i ever seen was on mgt at a traders. people were moaning that people were killing just outside the traders and how it wasnt allowed or fair. while all hell is breaking loose there is a single guy in a bush taking one back wheel off vehicles selling them for silver :D . then you see the people get back in who are complaining try and drive off and car goes round and round LOL. guy just sits in bush. keeps doing it i just watch with sniper from hill crying. such a legend.:p .

it would be great to see modding bring much of what we want back. i just think many just got bored of waiting. its a shame cause dayz can be some of the best fun you can have . done right.

I fired it up last night. Daytime servers with <100 ping all full, night time servers empty. Went into a night time server, couldn't see anything at all. Lit flare. Went in 10 buildings, no loot. Im Standing on the train station platform. A zombie on the tracksbelow runs *through* the platform and kills me through the ground. Quit game.

Maybe ill give it another go tonight.

You know what I've given it another go, I've spent an hour and a half on a daytime server (albeit raining continuously).

Loot is far to sparse (or doesn't re spawn - 99% of the time doors are already open) so it is a struggle to find anything. I've been playing for probably 90 minutes and I've found a few axes/ hammers, some binoculars and a SMG (no ammo). Through killing zombies I've found enough beans and Pepsi to get by. It's just far too slow and with no map you can't really set your own objectives, you just run around aimlessly or follow the road / railway as I recall doing this a lot in the mod back in 2012!

I found one of the cities (I think I'm on the southern coast if my Dayz mod memory serves me correctly) but still no loot and the mix of lootable and not lootable buildings is annoying. Would it be so diffict for all rooms in lootable houses to be accessible?!

Also the old broken gameplay is still here! Zombies attacking through you so they end up behind you; you're then meleeing nothing and spinning around trying to find them. They'll attack broadly in the same postcode as you and it will somehow count as a hit. Moving items in your inventory is hit and miss with a 3 block item taking several tries to fit into a 3 block space in your inventory.

The number of things added is a bit too ott - why does a torch need a battery, who stores their torches without batteries! It's just busy work. It also has the same survival game problems as most of them where you get hungry too quickly.

Having whinged myself inside out I still feel the urge to go back on it later though :s

In all honesty, I would wait before trying this, there are far too many issues currently and even though I believe the game will be really good in a years time, they seem to have screwed the pooch at the 11th hour and are omitting a lot of content in order for the platform to become stable.

Also, to avoid lag-fest I would stick with community servers that run vanilla experience as modded servers are getting way more issues.

I'm not playing at the moment, basically due to hit registry issues and recent keybind issues.

The game is a faux beta state (late alpha) IMO and so even though the game has moved on massively, I wouldn't expect current issues to be resolved this side of Christmas.

Given this another go after a long time off it, and it definitely feels a heck of a lot smoother. Much preferring the mele combat mechanics also, although zombies can hit you without seeming to make contact, it's far less frequent than in previous iterations.

Quite glitchy with things disappearing into the ground on occasion, but possibly less than before. I like the double carry ability now, where you cannot drop your gun without intentionally dragging it off your character (although it does mean you cannot do a quick switch to handgun or other weapon in the heat of combat).

Handguns are totally glitched where if you try and aim down sights, it just puts you inside yourself...but the rounds do still impact where they would be going if it wasn't glitched.

Like others, I've found all the day servers to be full (though the queuing system works well) and night servers are unplayable. It's simply too dark to see anything, yet also fuzzy so it looks like you're looking through a black and white TV screen with poor reception. Unplayable without a torch, even though the moon is out and the sky is clear, so really you should be able to see rather well.

I was killed last night by I assume a newish spawn. I'd spent ages finding that gun, a 100 capacity bag, a rifle (also no ammo) etc and then we have a glitchy fight - pick axe vs sledgehammer - and through no skill on either of our parts he kills me after we dance around each other swinging randomly.

Ah well I have Respawned in a city and managed to find a crowbar. Got a water bottle and kept drinking and refilling it at a tap. Now it is night time so I'm just sat in a room with a flare.

The kitchen knife is OP for melee combat - fast and pretty damn nasty. Definitely my choice.

Knife gets ruined quickly, I always pick up a second - one for cutting meat or cutting rags, the other for melee. You can still use ruined knifes for melee (or at least you could pre beta).

Again, I would probably look to play something else for anyone thinking of making a return, just for now. There are a few issues due to being fully on Enfusion engine that they clearly didn't expect and has been a bigger issue than they thought. They were set back months due to the 'player locked in database' issue, as well as other server issues. That is mostly resolved now but other issues have cropped up which will definitely be fixed but needs time - I think them aiming for 1.0 this year is a bit stupid but hey ho, they clearly are getting pressure to have it at full release (I'm guessing for the Playstation crowd).

I'm just playing Tarkov at the moment instead until the dust settles and hopefully 1.0 will get the platform stable enough to then see the introduction of much more content.

I will begrudgingly fire it up at some point just to see if it has turned into anything that resembles playable.

Yeah still peeved and not got over the fact I was sold a lie, just wanting the game the mod promised.

To be fair, the game is infinitely better than the mod, from many aspects, the issues are generally down to teething issues with the new engine.

Most want DayZ to be a success but this project changed from purely giving the fans a more updated version of the Arma 2 DayZ mod on the legacy platform, to a platform for not only a (hopefully) great DayZ Standalone vanilla experience, but Arma 4 and beyond. Modding is now available so the ability for people to ‘go wild’ on this new engine. I expect Namalsk map to be released around the same time as 1.0 or by Christmas – it does look epic!

Unreal 4 engine is pushing towards 20 years of development now, Enfusion is 3 or 4 years at the most. Listening to PUBG and other players moaning about the state of the Unreal engine, troubles are definitely not isolated to DayZ.

The biggest criticism I can lay at the devs has been their communication – it’s been pretty dire for the most part. The things that Eugen has discussed in the last two Status Report (SR) have been some of the most honest, but difficult to read, of all the SR’s.

On a positive note, the player base has increased nearly 5x in the past few weeks, which is great to see. There are some, like me, with 1000 hours+ that are just waiting for things to settle down before jumping back on.
