Dell S2716DG - Dells first G-sync

I've never tried, but I thought screen tearing could only get worse with high frame rate. In fact, I'm not convinced at all by the idea that Gsync is for making 40 fps bearable. To me, Gsync is supposed to improve the experience of games that keep moving from 55 to 100 fps, therefore causing endless tearing, plus stuttering for the 50-60fps bracket.

I might reinstall Bioshock Infinite to see that for myself.

I am in the process of replaying Bioshock Infinite in all its 100fps gsync glory. Love it!

I guess you might not notice screen tearing at 144fps as much as you would at 40fps or so

I've never checked that, that'll be interesting to test.
On my 60hz display, I only ever noticed tearing with frame rates above 60 (what it couldn't display, basically)
Now that I think about it, I haven't played a game below 60 fps for a long, long time! I find it so unbearable that I give up unless I find a fix. Maybe it's nicer with gsync.

I thought ULMB was for MVA panels or IPS, as a fix for their lower response times.

TN panels have it too, such as the Dell panel that this thread is about. I'm not sure if it's a response time thing intrinsic to combating the slower response times of VA/IPS, as plenty of '1ms' TN monitors use ULMB.

Getting excited now. As long as the weather behaves it self I should get my monitor tomorrow or Friday. Any way any one use the USB ports in the monitor for your keyboard or mouse and have you noticed if it better, worse or same?.

Getting really annoyed with Amazon's 3rd party sellers getting my hopes up, I see a decent price, check the seller and in the description it says email me at xyz @ zyx.com before purchase. Instant alarm bells, even when they have good feedback...

I only from those sellers for small things. I wouldn't risk buying a monitor or a phone from them.

yeah if I buy from amazon I only make sure its in stock and sold buy amazon or at least fulfilled. I bought 2 electrical things from sellers. The first was an xobox 360 which came smashed and cracked. took it back and exchange it and similar thing happened to next. got money back in the end. The next my mum and dad bought a electric fire and that broke straight away. I only use amazon for computer games and stuff.

There are also so many forgeries on there. Worse even from third party sellers. It's OK for zip lock bags and phone covers, I guess. But when I think people buy electrical stuff or alcohol from there... Do they have a death wish?

I've just ordered this dust cover and I hope it will be the right fit:

This was surprisingly difficult to find. I couldn't find anything like that with Overclockers or Dell. It's weird: am I the only one caring for my stuff?? :)

By the way, this works really well.

How much colour improvement is this. On my monitor now I have 16.7m (6-bit + FRC) colour depth on the dell I will have 16.7m (8-bit). The colour on my monitor at the moment is really bad and just wanted to no the difference. Cant wait. lol

The colours are ok after a bit of tweaking, but don't expect a big difference in colour compared to what you have now... Unless your current screen is exceptionally bad! The Dell is still using a TN panel at the end of the day.

I got my Dell S2716DG looking fairly good after some tweaking, but the colours still didn't come close to my old and cheap 23" LG IPS monitor (IPS235V model and was about £120 at the time iirc). The pixel response time, addition of G-Sync and higher resolution blew the LG monitor away when it came to gaming though.

I have mainly got it for 1440p/gsync. 1080p at 27" is too pixelated plus I have 3 dead pixels on this monitor now which are annoying.

Has anyone else had anything like this appear on there screen

Woop Woop Just received it now. Hooked it up in 2 minutes and switched on. Instantly noticed how smoother my mouse is on desktop. Icons look small but think that is better. text a lot clearer too. Colours are way better at default.

Just put farcry 4 on. I no its an oldish game but I've been playing it. I noticed there is loading pixilation like on my 1080p monitor or tv. Think I'm going to enjoy gaming again.

I noticed a dvd came with it but I have no dvd or bluray drive for my pc do I actually need the drivers?.

Just need to figure out the OSD menu buttons now. hehe sorry just excited.

No need for the cd, windows installs the drivers itself. And even if it doesn't, all it does is add the colour profile I think which you can sort yourself.

I have noticed the wake from sleep problem over the last few days. Apparently turning off the deep sleep mode sorts this, although yet to test. Class monitor none the less.

Yeah just testing out the different settings. Gsync enabled at 144hz default colour is amazing. I tried enabling 120hz ULMB and picture is way too dark. Is this meant to be like this?.

There's going to be a big price drop on Gsync monitors: Nvidia has announced a new Gsync (Gsync HDR) and that's going to trigger a product lines renewal. Destock prices coming.

G-Sync HDR monitors are going to be very expensive, I'd hazard a guess that they will be more expensive than current G-Sync monitors and they will probably live side by side as not everyone wants to shell out a kidney for slightly better colours and if suddenly only the super expensive HDR G-Sync monitors are available well then people may end up looking at alternatives.

Talking of ULMB, how come the ULMB setting is greyed out on my monitor? Any idea's, not that i'm too bothered as i use the g-sync ofc, just wondering really.

You have to turn gsync off in NVidia control panel under display tab, setup G-Sync and in check the box. Go back into manage 3d settings and change monitor technology to ULMB Change refresh rate to 120hz. Then try again on monitor.

Are you sure its not ULMB pulse width that not greyed.

Edit. It wont work in game either change on desktop.

Is there any difference between using an ICC profile or the colour setting in NCP? I have good results using NCP 0.65 gamma and a touch of digital vibrance however wondering if there is any reason if I should use an ICC profile and Windows monitor calibration tool instead?
