Dell S2716DG - Dells first G-sync

Recieved my b-grade yesterday and its great! no physical faults at all.

All i can see that is wrong with it, is it has a slight yellow glow on the right of the monitor on whites, but literally minimal.

These B-Grades can be incredible value!

Yes, I believe the warranty is low. Totally depends on how old your unit is I believe.

But the saving is significant. I paid £320 for this and brand new currently these are going for £520-£560.

edit: infact they are currently £600 at OCUK

Did you check yours if there is any warranty left with Dell?I am having problems with mine. What revision do you have?

What colour setting do u use? Colours out of the box are terrible.

I use the TFT central ICC profile.

Yep out of the box settings are dire.

edit: my pic I took the profile wasnt actually loaded on the first monitor, some reason it defaulted back.

Does anyone else have a very small amount of back light bleed from the power Led bottom right? It's only really slightly noticeable on dark backgrounds.

Curiosity got the better of me and I went and purchased a Spyder 5.

I got the Express and the software is pretty basic, but does give good results after a 5 min calibration.

Tried DisplayCal software which was much more comprehensive and guided me through adjusting the OSD. Many more settings but the same results as the bundled software at the end of a 1.5hr calibration.

Quite interesting how my perception of correct colours was way off!

Also found that the trusted Lagom Gamma test was a bit out, being 1.9 when calibrated to 2.2. Guess this is down to environmental lighting and distance from monitor etc.

Display Cal had me wind the birghtness back to 25% and the R-100% G-93% B-100% Resulted in 98% sRGB, pretty good for a TN!

I just noticed that setting the response to fast caused shadow when scrolling text, does setting to normal changes the response time from 1ms on TN panel?

I have mixed feelings on this - obviously there is likely to be variation between examples of a panel - my normal settings look more correct eye balling it along side my properly calibrated IPS but those settings look more colourful/vibrant - though I have to up brightness to 30% and slightly adjust gamma down in the nvcp to get it looking balanced.

I think it really is panel specific. I have downloaded and tried some icc profiles that I thought were terrible.

In regards to banding is this something that all monitors have, or am I right in saying that this panel has it significantly more?

I am playing Resident Evil 7 (very dark game), and am finding the banding somewhat distracting. Raising the gamma does a way with it, but then the game is brighter than recommended in the settings. All other games are fine apart from the odd thing such as in a cave in Witcher 3 or the night sky in GTA5 looking banded.

All in all a great monitor, just a shame about the out of box settings and banding, for me at least.

This panel does have a little more banding than typical though I don't generally notice it except in very specific circumstances and only really because I have a decent quality IPS alongside it.

Sadly its kind of the price to pay for a responsive monitor of this resolution and refresh rate until tech moves on :(
