Dell S2716DG - Dells first G-sync

Black is black on mine :s though I have to compromise with a tiny little bit of black crush to get the most acceptable overall picture quality. I find having a bias strip on the back (only really works if you have the right coloured plain wall at the right distance behind it) really helps to increase the perceived image quality as well.

So what's the right colour and what's the right distance?! :p

(seriously though, I needs to know)

Isn't one answer to that - depends on the size and power output of the strip and the exact hue, etc. of the bias light :( sadly even slightly out it significantly diminishes how well it works but when you get it bang on it really helps bring up the perceived black depth and general screen vibrancy.

Can anyone tell me whether the gamma is a big issue with this monitor or not? Some have said it is not really an issue and can be corrected via Nvidia control panel, whereas others have said it still looks washed out and wrong.

Really curious, because as it stands there is no other screen I am interested in at the moment.

Been correctable for me via nVidia control panel on all the monitors I've owned and seen using this panel. Some people have had problems with getting the gamma profile to stick with all applications but not had that myself.

Just received a new Monitor as a replacement to the damaged one I received last week (A02 revision).
It's an A04 Revision and was in perfect condition out of the box this time.
When connecting it to my MacBook (still awaiting the last pieces for my desktop) the Gamma was a lot better than the initial one I got send last week (A02 revision).
Even without the nVidia control panel and by just simply tweaking the Gamma on the screen itself it looks very pleasant.
The anti-glare layer seems to be a lot more subtle on the A04 revision in comparison to the A02 revision.
The difference in contrast shift is a lot better on the A04 revision (possibly because of the less noticeable anti-glare coating?) and is surprisingly good for a TN panel.

If you are considering to buy one of these I would highly recommend it but make sure you check the revision before opening the seal (The revision is printed on the product label located on the side of the box right next to the serial number, you can't miss it).
If it's not an A04 revision I would personally send it back straight away or just simply check with the retailer before buying it to avoid any disappointments later down the line.

I'm really glad I ordered a replacement as this is by far the best value for money 144Hz 1440p G-Sync monitor out there coming from a reputable brand as Dell.

Tweaking gamma on the screen itself? though I've not looked at the OSD on the A04 version all the rest are lacking any hardware gamma control.

Though some deny the change it that has been my experience with the A02 to A03 as well - slightly better balanced AGC and hence image quality out the box.

Thank you for that information

I clean my Dell U2515h (and tvs and phones/tablets etc) with Antec 100% Natural Screen cleaner. Not sure if they still do it, I had the two bottle pack and it lasts ages

I got this monitor for 2 months now. The response time is set to normal but i still get text ghosting/trailing while scrolling in websites. Should the ghosting go away once i set to normal? Is my monitor defective?

Reading through some of this thread seems like this monitor seems very decent. Not sure now to go for this or XB271HU which is IPS. Would I notice the difference in response times? And is it a noticeable enough improvement that it compensates for the better colours on the Acer's IPS panel?

Can't help in comparison to the Acer, but I love this monitor, bar one little bug, the Deep Sleep mode on the monitor, when enabled, sometimes doesn't wake from sleep forcing me to turn the monitor off and on again. I did however just disable the deep sleep mode from in the monitors settings, works fine now, albeit at a higher energy draw. Maybe due to me having USB stuff plugged in?

Not sure what causes the power draw with deep sleep mode disabled - mine is quite low (I've a front panel meter that can measure a mains socket) while some people have reported as high as 20 watt.

EDIT: Seem to vary a bit as well when sleeping, without deep sleep - not sure if it periodically wakes up to check if it should come out of standby or something.
