Dell S2716DG - Dells first G-sync

DId you try using the ICC profile from TFTCentral? Once I added that it improved the colors and gamma by a huge ammount.

Yes, but Windows seems to disable it every time I go fullscreen which is fun.

I'm using NVIDIA control panel now, which seems to work well.

So what's the best settings to start out on with this? I've just got mine today and having never really spent time calibrating a monitor properly before I want to change that with this one.

Is loading the TFTCenteal profile and OSD settings the best starting point? And just adjust them from there based on my personal preference?

Some games seem to disable the profile which is a pain. I tried NCP but couldn't quite get it right. In an ideal world I'd like to use the TFT settings and ICC profile as a baseline, then use NCP to lower gamma (well, raise the value, but lower the slider....if you know what I mean!). That would be perfect, but of course to access the gamma control I need to 'Use Nvidia Settings' which I believe will disable the ICC profile from TFT Central.

Out of interest, can I ask what your settings are in NCP?

I've been using the setup and ICC profile from the TFTCentral review for the past days, set the gamma to +0.78 last night and it does look better.

I think it needs calibrating properly with a device but they're expensive, I could swear there used to be a thread on here where people passed a calibration device around but I can't find it anymore...

Hold up...how did you manage to use the TFT settings and adjust gamma? That's exactly what I would like to do, but I thought that as soon as you click 'Use Nvidia settings' (to access the gamma slider) you stop using the ICC profile?

Is there another program you're using to get around that?

I'm pretty sure I am running the TFT profile with an adjusted gamma of 0.78 as well.

Are you sure you have applied the profile correctly? When I first did it I hadn't checked the box for "Use Windows display calibration". That made all the difference.

You cannot use ICC at the same time as NVCPL settings.
NVCPL overrides ICC.

Flick between "Use Nvidia" and "Other Applications" and you should notice a change.

Got the monitor on Saturday, I really like the ULMB mode its very good, but one problem that I found really annoying was.

If for example I'm on TFTcentral, and scrolling by using the middle mouse wheel button and holding it down,
so its smooth scrolling, I notice a lot of like trailing like a white trail/ghosting behind the text that gets worse the faster you scroll, its more prominent with black text in a white background.

I tired every mode from normal and fast mode was worse, also tried 60hz which was a bit better, but still annoying, but the higher refresh you go the worse it is to 120hz being the worse,
the trail is always there and is pretty annoying, on my old IPS 60hz monitor I don't get this issue at all, can you guys check and see if you also get this on the link below thanks!!

Mine has just turned up and i will be playing about with it tonight so i will do that test for you and report back

Looking forward to seeing all the hype of 144hz Gsync and 1440p coming from a 1080p 60hz

Enjoy you'll love it. Huge difference going form 1080p to 1440p esepcially with GSync.

How does the build quality and general QC on these seem? It's the main thing putting me off Acer or Asus.

Bought one in the Black Friday sale. Received it Saturday and it has a dead pixel so it's going back. Going to try another, but I'm not holding my hopes up. Uniformity and backlight bleed was all good though in my opinion apart from the colour shift, which you're never going to get away from.

I would say the Dell's build quality and general QC is better than either Asus or Acer currently - possibly excluding the XB271HU as that does seem to show greatly improved QC.

There are a couple of bugbears with the overall quality of the Dell (such as the whole screen wobbling whenever you use one of the buttons) but overall it is well-made. I'm in the middle of returning a PG279Q which feels like it was put together by monkeys in comparison - ill-fitting bezel (with a piece of foam rammed between the monitor and bezel at one point!) and flex on all corners. And that's saying nothing of the glow / BLB / uniformity issues on it that make it unbearable to use for any game / film with dark content...e.g. virtually all of them!

I did have some BLB on the Dell, but after a week or so it has almost vanished completely.

So long as you know the inherent weaknesses of fast TN panels (pixel inversion, poor viewing angles, colour / gamma shift and slightly worse colours vs IPS) then this is definitely a very good option. I picked it over the original Swift as it has more connectivity options and Dell's warranty.

The more I use this monitor the more I like it. I initially thought it was over-priced (this was when it was selling for ~£600) but I paid around £500 for it and feel that is a fair price - I don't think you can get a better 1440p G-Sync gaming screen for that money than this monitor. As it is I'm needing to pay almost £250 more to get the PG279Q, which considering the actual differences makes the Dell look like a bit of a bargain!

If you're undecided my advice, for what it's worth, would be to go for it if you specifically want a TN panel. If you'd prefer an IPS but are put off by the current offerings, I'd suggest waiting for the XB271HU to arrive. It's getting very positive feedback on another popular forum and appears to have good QC whlist being priced competitively (OCUK have them on pre-order for £650).

In default mode no mine is not doing this. However yet to try setting it up but have played some games and i must admit im not "blown away" its very nice but im still getting some stuttering in GTA V despite getting 70-90fps average and G-sync is enabled.

Edit: see below now i have set the monitor up (standard profile is a bit naff)

OK so My first impressions, its very nice now i have installed the ICC profile, The build quality is very good i have no dead pixels and the stand is lovely. Every game i play is buttery smooth apart from GTA V so need to work out whats going on however i just had a quick go of COD black ops 3 and everything maxed in AA etc getting 100-115fps and well i scored the highest score i ever have and im sure the monitor gave me an edge.

Played Assetto Corsa and that looks mind blowing agoung about 100fps everything on max.

just about to try some other games. Even dragging this web page onto 1080p... why have i not changed to 1440 before ?

I dont think there is any going back im very impressed and Dell have done a spot on job.

im having eyegasms
