Dell U2412M, U2312HM and U2212HM on their way!

I have a 2405FPW and just got 3x U2412Ms in (not had chance to play with them yet!)

As others have said, I doubt there will be a problem with colour parity after calibration.. but the 2405FPW will definitely lag behind slightly. The U2412M has basically no input lag.. personally I don't notice much lag on the 2405FPW when using it individually, but since I have it next to a BenQ FP241W (A-MVA) - moving a window up and down when split between the two makes it noticeable.

I'll be doing a 5x1P, so I doubt it'll matter much with these two *VA screens on the wings.. but I'd be wary of pairing them up on a 3x1P (maybe 3x1L would be better..)

This new Dell screen (U2412M) is exactly what I've been looking for for ages.

A question to PCM2 and the other experts here: for this money (£300), is there anything else worth looking at? Ideally 16:10 24" or bigger...

It will function is a PC monitor, TV (I play all DVDs through my PC), gaming monitor. My current screen is a 20" Philips 200W6CS which is IPS and I don't notice ghosting like some people do (this is a very old generation IPS screen).

I do like the idea of going with Dell as their customer service reputation is excellent.

The only other option for 24" 16:10 with a decent panel in the same price range is the HP ZR24W. I went with the U2412M due to the lower power usage (via W-LED backlighting) and reported higher contrast levels primarily.

Yup, lower power usage is a very compelling reason :)

Especially if you're going for eyefinity, like me :)

That's excellent news, thanks.
I will be using them in 3x1L. I haven't noticed any lag on my monitor, and I have it next to a nice responsive 19" CRT, so I don't think it should be a problem. If it is, I can always sell it and get a 3rd u2412, so I'm not too worried.

I am really liking my two U2412M monitors!
I have made an unboxing thread if you do a search :p.

Mine worked out at £180 each (which will come down to £255 each if/when my topcashback comes through).

I'm tempted by one of these but dissapointed that there is no HDMI input.

I wish to connect my PC, my PS3 and my Xbox 360 to it at the same time.

I currently connect my PS3 via DVI and my 360 via VGA. If I bought this monitor could I use a DVI to Displayport adaptor to connect my PC into the Displayport?

How easy is it to cycle between input sources?

Is the U2412 worth £120 more than the £180ish Iiyama 24 inch models?

Displayport can be converted to DVI with an adapter (Graphics card with DP, Monitor with DVI) but not the other way around without a £100+ converter box.

The U2412M costs more due to the better color reprodution and viewing angles of an e-IPS panel compared to the TN panels used in the Iiyamas. You also get 1920x1200 instead of 1920x1080; but that may be an issue for console gaming as the U2412M does not have 1:1 pixel mapping, so the 16:9 image will be stretched vertical to 16:10.

If that bothers you at all, you can opt for the cheaper U2312HM which have just been released, it has a 16:9 1920x1080 native resolution but is equal to the U2412M in terms of features.

You're best off picking something else for 360/PS3 use. This screen is 16:10 and doesn't support a 16:9 mode or 1:1 pixel mapping option.. so even if you sorted the cabling out you'd get a stretched picture for console gaming.

Switching between inputs isn't too bad, I'd have liked a dedicated switch button -- but you can map one of the spare buttons to a quick select of the input source menu, and then change source reasonably easily from there.

Are you sure that the U2412M does not support pixel mapping ??

As i know my U2410 supports 1:1 pixel mapping..

Can't this be done with the display drivers anyhow?

Was just messing with the nV control panel, and I can get my current monitor to stretch or display black bars, using only the nV software.

[edit: obviously no good for 360 or PS3 use tho, sadly :( ]
