Dell U2711..is it worth the money?

The price drops suggest a new model may be on the horizon, however if one is released - it will be closer to U3011/apple pricing I would expect - from previous trends.

It is certainly due for an overhaul. Last year saw the U2211H, U2311H replaced and an alternative to the U2410 launched and Dell do like to launch new models in the summer. I think it is the U2711's turn next. It may be much like what happened with the U2410 though - not a replacement as such but an alternative. I would suspect a standard gamut LED backlit model at a lower launch price than the U2711 had.

Fair play, I would hope they'd release a successor to the U2711 as well as an alternative... but if they did, I guess it would be a higher price.

I wouldn't be happy with an LED backlit version :( I want more of these & they need to be CCFL for my eyes.

What was the launch price of the U2711?

If so, how long to wait til the new model is released?

And the U2711 should drop more in price when it's superior is available?

You don't know if it will be superior yet, if LED backlit then it will be a downgraded/cheaper version IMO, but will still likely be priced higher than the current price of the U2711.

Question...

What are the Dimensions of the screen? not the unit itself, just the display...

I've got a widescreen 24" that will be to long vertically after a 90 degree tilt as a second monitor.

I want them to fit nicely together whilst the 27" is sitting landscape and the next monitor is 90 dgeree tilt might only be a 19" monitor or whatever.. that's fine

Anyone?

Use Pythagoras' theorem.

a^2 + b^2 = c^2

24" or 27" = c

You know the ratio of a:b is 16:9 (2560:1440)

Well, to say I'm ****ed, is an understatement.

Wages never went in today, new job but I've been there a month so it's not as if they haven't had enough time to sort out the payroll. My boss is going to feel my rage.

So, I'll probably miss the special price. Butthurt doesn't quite cover it right now :(

Can you not put it on a credit card?

Wow!!!

I just tried reading up on that, and watched a video "Pythagoras' theorem in 60 secs" Way over my head :D

Really? Think I learnt that when I was 10 or 11... lol, maybe younger :S

16^2 + 9^2 = 337

sqrt(337) = 18.36

(27/18.36) * 16 = width = 23.5"
(27/18.36) * 9 = height = 13.2"

Of course, that's of the screen itself, not including the bezel... add ~0.5" to each side to account for that, roughly.

Not an option for me right now, credit card is basically maxed. I usually pay the full balance monthly, but of course with no wages yet, I can only meet the minimum payment.

I could phone them and ask them to raise my limit again (I purposely asked them to lower it before) but I'm not starting that, it would be too tempting to rack up the balance. :p

My company made a similar mistake to a colleague who started at the same time as me.

He mentioned it and payroll sorted a same day (immediate) payment... he had the money before lunch time :)

No need to rage... just calmly pointing out that you were expecting to receive your pay pack today ("is that not the case?") will have a much better effect on your employer and will likely garner a swifter response. It's annoying, of course...

Cheers crinkleshoes!

Nah mate, Maths wasn't a strong point in school... Strange though now I'm a 3d artist working with geometry  Just never have to think like that I reckon... I'll try and get my head around it at some point because it is interesting.

Heh... exactly the opposite for me, maths was my main interest.

Went on to study Astrophysics at uni.
