Dell U2711..is it worth the money?

Maybe not the most useful bit of input but I'm sat at work using a Dell U2410 for CAD work and the clarity, viewing angle and colours are great. So much better than my 26" home monitor. Really easy on the eyes.

Thay may make a relatively low cost product but that doesn't make them "cheap" in the way you implied it.

Hmmm... I'd rather not get in to this debate again, feel like I've done it to death...

But generally: cutting corners in every conceivable way to meet a price point, abhorrent customer support, warranty and quality control issues makes them cheap.

... thus, I was genuinely surprised that they even include a dual-link DVI cable... I can only assume that is to reduce the number of returns due to people using the wrong cable ;)

Exactly. I bought a B-grade Hazro 27" (WC) for 280GBP and it is in perfect condition. Hazro gets a lot of negative publicity on this forum but don't forget that for every person complaining there are 20 others who are very happy that they have the option to get their hands on a screen like this that they otherwise would never be able to afford. It's not for everybody and yes, it is annoying if you get problems, but they definitely fill a segment in the market.

So I've kept using the U2711 for the last 24 hours and I think I'm getting used to the AG coating. I guess the problem was coming from a 27" iMac with its very clear screen, still not sure if I'm gonna keep it or switch to the Hazro WD but will decide later tonight.

It took me a while to get used to AG also. I may have gone hazro, but didnt like the lack of input options, swivel/adjust and I think overall build of the Dell is far superior.

Im seriously considering the Dell for payday next month but have to decide whether Im willing to take a hit on the gaming front.
Im sure I will love the screen, but gaming at 2560 x 1600 is going to be expensive as it will require 2 new gfx cards, I currently run 1 x 470, but could use a spare 470 and go SLI, the only problem is that Im seeing reviews where even 7970 in xfire sruggle at that res.
I can either go for the 2711 and invest in kepler when it comes out or drop down to the Hazro and get a 7950 with some of the price saving and save for another..

What are people who have this screen doing gfx wise for gaming?

I'm waiting for Kepler, picked up a GTX580 a bit before the screen.

It actually runs most things well at native res (it's 16:9 - so it's actually 2560x1440 - the 30" monitors are 2560x1600).

Depends what you want to play.

It's also double (quadruple) 1280x720, so you'll get best scaling (pixel doubling) running at that non-native res... however I played a game that didn't support higher than 1920x1080 & it looked ok.

With how much better performance I'm expecting Kepler to have (nvidia have never released a new product that isn't a good improvement over their previous generation) and compared to how small an improvement 7970 is over GTX580... I'm waiting for the results :)

Yeah I must say this Dell has been awesome, 5 years old and still works just as good as the day I took it out of the box.

And still has some resale value, they still seem to go for £175-£200 second hand, so that would knock the cost of the U2711 down a chunk. :)

I have this monitor too, 2407 WFP (REV A03) sitting idle on my desk for the last 9 months lol. Used it a bit before my 12 year old athlon xp build gave up. Bought it for £40, yes, you read that right :D
Fantastic monitor when i was using it and top resolution too. Im going to be building an Ivy B rig soon and this monitor will make up a 3 monitor portrait set up for me. Just need to find two monitors to go with it.

Well I've ordered the Hazro...the Dell is great until I go into word or excel then the text looks all fuzzy and it annoys me again...will see how I get on tomorrow.
