Dell U2711..is it worth the money?

erm yes, I'm running it a 2560x1440 32bit colour through DP from a 580GTX. The edge is taken off the text by the AG, I've come from a 27" iMac running the same res. I've even plugged that in using target mode to see if its the config but the text looks much sharper on the iMac.

You will notice a difference in clarity compared to a monitor with a smooth outer polarising layer and the same resolution, yes. In many ways you are unfortunate enough to have experienced and noticed this difference first hand. Join the club :).

Maybe I need my eyes tested - I just don't see it :S

Comparing to two monitors next to it... one 15.4" laptop screen at 1920x1080 and the other a 21.5 BenQ at 1920x1080...

Text seems equally as "clear" on each, just with varying sizes of course.

... probably just because those two monitors are crap.

Have you tried dual link DVI?

I haven't tested displayport much... but if my experience of DVI vs HDMI is anything to go by, that might account for it - similar experience when I tried using HDMI on a Hyundai W240D.

I can either go for the 2711 and invest in kepler when it comes out or drop down to the Hazro and get a 7950 with some of the price saving and save for another..

What are people who have this screen doing gfx wise for gaming?
I am using a 7950/Hazro 27" at the moment, anything but the Witcher II can have the settings cranked up to its highest (or very nearly almost highest) while still getting decent framerates.
The Witcher II butchers any single gpu and/or single card solution :P

Indeed the difference between the iMac and u2711 is massively noticeable when you've been running the iMac for near 2 years. It's like my eye sit just got a load worse...

So the Hazro has arrived and the image quality is infinity better in my opinion than that from the Dell. The image is sharp and crisp with text being significantly better. The build quality of the stand is pretty poor but the rest of the monitor is fine and it has all the connectivity that I'd ever need.

Will be dropping the Dell back on my journey up North next week.

interesting to hear, was it the AG coating that put you off?, ive been weighing up the pro's and con's of both screens, but thinking the Hazro is far too much of a lottery for me.

Yes the AG gives a marked softness to the text and a sparkle to solid colours, this was very noticeable at native res and coming from an iMac screen was horrible. The Hazro has the same image quality as the iMac in my view.

OK, I'm ready to order one, I see they are at £539.99 now so I'm bloody well getting in now before they go up again :p

Can anyone that owns one give me the dimensions of just the screen unit itself including the bezel, without the stand.

May need to do a bit of rearranging to fit it in :p

Don't say that, Id just about made my mind up to get a dell! :(

I came from an iMac and I'd say the Hazro is on par with that in terms of image quality. The Dell is a great monitor apart from the AG coating which in my opinion destroys the image quality to the extent where its not suitable for using with anything like excel/word as it just blurs the edges of the text out.

Think I've figured out why the AG doesn't bother me so much - all the main monitors I use have something similar, to varying degrees... all Dell too!

The Dell E248WFPb I have on my desk at work definitely has it, and the Dell work laptop I have seems to have it too - only to a lesser degree than the 248 and 2711

Well, the U2711 arrived this morning.

Managed to get one for £500 including next day shipping, from...erm....somewhere else.

And while I can notice the AG, it is not that much more aggressive than the AG on my 2407WFP, I will get used to it pretty quickly, and I'm perfectly happy with my purchase.

Screen is amazing! :D I love it so much that I may even add a second one to go with it, though ill need a bigger desk first :p

So, thanks crinkleshoes and anyone else that contributed in this thread to help me come to a decision!
