I was really considering getting one of these but with all the reports of pink tinting and poor customer service it's kind of scared me off really. The worse thing is that there doesn't seem to be an equivalent monitor also without it's fair share of problems. May have to consider smaller screens.
The customer service is mostly pretty good. To be honest Dell's Indian call centre staff tend to be politer than what you get in the UK, and have never been unreasonable in my experience (so far). The problems you're reading about were caused by the fact that the number Dell uses to track orders was missing from the box.
As for tint issues, if you go with the 22" Dell you may face exactly the same issues with tint etc, because it's a problem with the current LCD technology itself, not with a particular brand. You just hear about it less there, most likely because people spending under £200 are likely to be a lot less picky than those spending more than double that. There are ways to correct these problems somewhat but, to effectively do it, you have to get a screen from a company like Eizo, which cost about 3x what the U2410 costs. See here
www.eizo.com/global/products/coloredge/cg243w/index.html and read about the section which mentions their "DUE" technology. It's something like this which, if Dell would build it into the LUT, would most likely fix these issues for the most part. NEC provide some limited adjustment (called "Colorcomp") with their WUXI screens too. Details here

The current screen I have has a mild tint difference that's actually blue in the top right, and reddish green at the bottom. It's enough that I'd rather not have it, but also mild enough that it's a small annoyance rather than a major one. Dell are shipping some screens with severe tint issues, and that's something their QC shouldn't be allowing in this price range, but such issues are only present on a minority of screens (although apparently a bigger minority than most of us would like).
Otherwise it's a good screen, and a step up from all their previous 24" efforts. I actually LIKE the effect wide gamut has under game mode, where colours are boosted. I use custom mode and can see down to square 1 on the Lagom.nl black test, and right up to 254 on the white test, have zero dither issues, the connectivity options are good, and the screen otherwise looks really great. So don't be too put off by people like me posting with these issues. It's something to keep in mind. If you actually get a screen with the issue you'll know it, and Dell should replace it. So you can relax a bit
