Destiny 2... It's a coming!

I don't know anything about this game, hope you don't mind answering a few questions:
1 - Is it multiplayer coop only?
2 - Do you grind?
3 - Are levels always the same or are they randomly generated?
4 - Good for solo, playing with pug's?
5 - How long do raids take?
6 - Is it a casual game - good for a quick blast?

Thanks!

I know others have answered this but I'd like to put my spin on this if I may.

1) Nope. You can solo the entire "campaign" and when you are asked to do strikes you will get grouped up with 2 other guardians. There are elements of a "shared world" experience where you will see guardians fighting together in the patrol areas so you can either help or just leave them to it and explore.
2) This all depends on what you call "grind" if you are just playing for fun and not too fussed out stat roles and looks of weapons armour then the grid is as short or as long as you want it to be. If you like hunting to new loot then there will be an element of grind but how much you do is entirely up to you on this one.
3) The levels if based on the first one will be constructed worlds not the procedural worlds of say a "warframe" or "Division: Underground DLC" there will probably be new play spaces introduced over time via DLC but the nice thing is that the worlds should be large enough for you to explore that it will take you a while to investigate every nock and cranny.
4) This is how I played the majority of Vanilla Destiny on the PC and loved it. I could do what I want when I wanted. As friends came over to the game we grouped up and just messed about in the "shared world experience" bits and did the odd strike here and there so getting matched up with some randoms which was fine for the most part. Like any game where you have PUGS sometimes they are great experience other times not so much. With the evolution of sites like DestinyLFG and the100 they really tried to bring guardians together so you could form informal "clans" and even though they were PUGs you would play with some of the same players over and over again so helping with some of the more challenging game content like Raids etc.
5) Based on my Destiny 1 experience they can take anywhere between 20 minutes up to several hours depending on the group. At first when a new raid hits you are probably looking on average 3 to 4 hours but players become more familiar with the encounters and the strats are refined most raids take around 90 minutes.
6) This is the 64,000 dollar question. Destiny can be a casual game (it was for me at first until it got its hooks into me) but it is one of those games that just feels like a nice pair of slippers or comfy jacket you keep coming back to it as the gun play is one of the best things about it (yes I know the current meta for PvP is just ability spam the game) but doing PvE content you can do as little or as much as you want. If you only have time to do things like collect the weekly treasure boxes then you can do that. If you want to try and challenge yourself and solo a raid that's fine as well. It you cant to try and get that god tier weapon or fancy emblem then you can put the time in. It is entirely up to you whether you will treat this like a casual game or it is a regular game that you pick up a number of times during the week to play. Again it all comes down to what you class as casual? But if you only wanted to invest say an hour a week then you could get most of the "weekly" stuff done and dusted and then pick up something else. But like any looter shooter the more time you put in the more rewards you will get. That doesn't necessarily mean better gear but you may come with better strats for dealing certain boss encounters you may find the next "loot cave" or discover something no one else has found in the game before.

My advice is try the beta see how you like it and don't judge the entire experience based on this samplet of the game. This is just a tiny portion of the game and if you are more of a PvE player rather than PvP then you have a lot of content waiting for you on launch day. For me Destiny has had one of the best gun play mechanics of any game of this "type" the old school Halo feel is there and that is part of the reason I keep returning to the game (as well as the people I have meet via here and elsewhere).

If you enjoy a game where you like to grind for specific items and like to shoot things in the face at the same time then you will enjoy it tremendously. This can be a game where you just pick it up and play for an hour or two or it can be a game where you sink in hundreds or even thousands of hours into it. Only you can decide how this game will turn out for you. But try it and see what you think.

Anyway I hope that helps answer your question to a fashion and as much as I enjoy the game I am hoping so many of the lessons from the first game have been learnt and addressed for this iteration of the adventure.

Thanks for taking the time to write that (as well as the other two people!)
I#ll probably pick it up and give it a go - sounds good!

Love what I've played of this so far and really glad the PC version is looking so good. Just hope they sort this aim assist thing out otherwise PvP seems dead on arrival.
I would rather they kill the PvP instead of the PvE, the amount of moaning over the aim assist for controllers is ridiculous. We've had years of PC gamers smugly going that m/kb are far superior and now they're being schooled. The crucible is toxic anyway no matter what, so let them moan. If it wasn't the aim assist they would moan about something else instead.
I really hope Bungie doesn't cave in and leaves the aim assist as it is for controllers, there are enormous numbers of players using the controller and the crucible really isn't as important to the game as the PvE content is. At the most they should just turn off aim assist in crucible only.

Is there just the one mission in the beta?
What are these "orbs"?

Was great fun. :)

Orbs are mostly made when you kill things with your super but can also happen under different circumstances in D1. When you pick them up they recharge your super energy and can heal you if you have the right armour

One mission, 1 strike, a couple of pvp maps.
Those orbs are created when you kill something with your super. Other players can pick them up and they help charge their own super's faster.

Hyperseven#2601 :D

Like the short campaign level. Runs like a dream, might try to see if can get HDR working on living room TV @4K 60Hz before the beta ends.

Ordered this a PCars2 from Amazon, physical copies, for £61, not bad :D

Hi, console peasant here :)

Thought I'd just jot down a few thoughts for those of you who are new to the Destiny experience:

First off, it's only a "semi" MMO. There are open world elements but they are fairly small and you'll never come across more than 10 or so guardians in the same space. The game instances everything so if one area becomes a bit crowded, it'll lock it off and move newcomers in to a different instance. It's a very clever system and works seamlessly, as long as you don't expect massive open world wars (think of the open world raid bosses in WoW and you'll know what I mean).

There's no crafting.

There's no trading.

The game is extremely RNG heavy. All the boss drops and loot drops are primarily RNG. Much like WoW (I'll be making this comparison a lot, as that's pretty much the benchmark for MMOs and most PC players have played it at some point) the bosses have loot tables, but you can go for years without seeing the specific item you want (like me with Gjallerhorn in D1, never got it until the final week). Of course there are also loot pieces that'll drop for you every bloody time which will do your head in. Yes, I'm talking from experience here.

The franchise was very confused for a long time. There was a lot going on at Bungie HQ, people leaving, people joining, etc. The left the story, or lack of it, a complete mess. At the height of it all, towards the end of Peter Dinklage's stint as the Ghost voice, the internet was awash with theories and explanations with people trying to connect dots and fill in gaps. The story left a lot to the imagination which was a massive downfall but also a massive boon as it got tongues wagging like you would not believe. When Dinklage (known affectionately as the "Dinklebot" at the time) hung up his ghost outfit and moved on, Nolan North took over and that is seen by many as the trigger for the dust settling and when the game managed to put all the political drama behind it and start tying up loose ends. For many who loved the story, this was Destiny's peak, it was when all the stories and rumours were either confirmed or denied. Nathan Fillion came on board as the voice of Cayde 6 who became a hit with the fan base instantly for his humour and ability to explain things without becoming boring. He's still the favourite of many today. I'll stop there because I'l firmly heading towards spoiler territory and I'd rather let you guys discover it all yourselves :)

Weapons will have different perks on them. You have green, blue, purple and yellow weapons, which mimick the rarity levels of... you guessed it, World of Warcraft. Once you really get going, purple will be all that matters, and this stuff for the most part drops with different perks on them, particularly weapons. Triple tap, double tap, firefly, glass half full, final round, these are all perks on weapons and whether you get them or not is 100% RNG. There will be a few weapons in the game with their perks and stats set in stone and these will also only be available from certain bosses. All the others that drop in the wild will have random perks on them and this is where the grind comes in. I've seen people kill the same boss over and over hundreds of times to get that exact weapon with the exact perks that they want.

As for exotics, you can equip two exotic items at once: a weapon and an armour piece. There will also be exotic class items which you can wear as a third exotic but that's an exception. Other than those, two exotics and that's that. Exotic items have their perks set in stone, but with something called "glass needles" you can have another go at re-rolling the stats you want. With armour, the perks on the exotics will have a fairly large effect on what you're playing as and which class perks you choose as they can directly influence what your abilities do and what effects they have. Exotic Weapons have some excellent perks which are exclusive to them and can't be found on anything else. This of course brings in the dilemma of what to use your exotic slot for, and often you'll find yourself swapping stuff around for specific fights and whatnot.

I'll add more as I go but I should really go do some work now :p

Great read diddums thanks helps a lot with not playing d1 but having played wow...ty buddy

I'm sorry but using a console controller on PC to gain a significant advantage in a beta test is quite possibly one of the most pathetic things I've ever heard. It's a beta without stats or ranking, why even go to the effort of doing it?

The Farm is really exciting! you can play a bit of football and turn a light on and off! I've never seen or experienced such interaction!

Size wise how does it compare to the tower?

It is probably about the same size if you take all of the tower areas as a whole without the corridors (the farm is "open" in that sense).

Hard to get a overall impression about how much we will be able to do in the farm as everything is switched off in the beta. I am assuming it will just be like the Tower in D1.
