*** Destiny Raid & PvP discussion thread ***

Sorry to the guys on the VoG hard run last night, bloody power cut! After I'd come back the power went out again so I'm glad you replaced me.

It is harder to get a VoG run since the dlc but still relatively easy to get a group. I don't know how many go on a week but since I startef raiding I haven't had trouble finding a group each week.

I'd still like some VoG sometimes too, the change can be quite refreshing.

Is anybody going to be Raiding this weekend? Say either Saturday or Sunday, in the afternoon? Mainly looking to Raid Crota this weekend but I should also have my friend who would Raid with us (on this forum he is known as beenom).

I wonder if that's where we're going wrong, out strategy is sound with Si. and I on either side, focusing on knights till Sword man is ready, then all fire on Crota. Crota is always downed before the swordsman rush in from behind.

This gets 2 hits, three if we're lucky but not enough time for him to GTFO.

Captain / kris, are both your swordsman using Blink to snap out of scene when Crota stands?

To escape from Crota after hitting him use sword slash (RB), it gets you away faster.

I played alongside a bunch of guys and voc is perfect for this with a 31 character. The reason being is predictable dps on crota shield. Timing is everything and if you can all fire with voc and work him down all the while shouting out his shield percentage (75, 50, 25, 10) the sword man can time it perfectly and get 5 good hits in.

The key is timing for the sword strikes, not attack damage, so DPS is key. This was proven when I was trying to shoot crota with a sniper while everyone else was on voc. The combined DPS was just unpredictable for the sword man. Alternatively, it can be done with rockets, but that is even harder to hit right with timing for the sword man, much luck needed!

Any good sword guy will be able to get three strikes while people take crota down with rockets. VoC may be easier to read due to being less capable, but if you can take the swordbearers out fast enough you get more time to take it calmly and do the damage to crota. A 15% damage decrease makes clearing the initial hallway slower, dealing with knights in the towers is slower, taking down thralls etc is slower. 331 attack primaries still have predictable damage, its just quicker all round. If your sword guy is having trouble then you could always use 331 attack primaries but shoot crota slower or get a new sword guy :p

I've been the sword guy myself quite a bit and i find its best to run in a bit early, then as everyone is shooting him your in the right place to hit him straight away. I've even had to strafe about next to his feet while everyone shot him.

I don't mind that: CE Crota: Finish Him Check Point

1. WriteThatD0wn (warlock 31)
2. Auty71 (Titan 31)
3. Schnippzle (Titan 30)
4. Mr Jones (Warlock 31)
5. Ehhh Mazin (Titan 31)
6. Thosion (Sword & Chalice Man :p)

19:30 Thurs OK for everyone?

How about tonight?

I'm up for running Urzok / Nightfall / Weekly on my Titan Alt, along with running Vog Normal for Shards / Energies if anyone is up for it? Available from 1800.

Afraid I can't do Thursday. Tonight is the only night I'm free. Happy hunting guys :)

Nope, got a titan/warlock so i just stay stood on the floor and sword swipe myself away from him. 3 swipes and i'm back on the little rock to the left. Make sure you turn the aiming reticule away from crota first though as its easy to aciddentally sword swipe back towards him, i even had it glitch out doing this due to bad connection and he woukdnt stop swiping at crotas ankles.

Not the best night of raiding ever (we won't talk about that VoG hard run ;))...but at least I got the CE raid chest to replace that awful vanguard one.

Will be up for finishing off Crota, and an Atheon hard checkpoint some point before the reset.

Just to jump onto the discussion of Crota. I've defeat him once but had many attempts.

As I understand, sometimes when Crota has been taken down for the first kneel, he sometimes stands up and moves to the right hand side, which can impact how mauch damage you can do before he enrages. Now as a Warlock, who can throw solar grenades. Generally if we hit an enemy, or place the grenade near to the area they are, they tend to back away from the fire. So if Warlocks each throw solar grenades to the right of Crota once he stands back up, would that not prevent him from moving to the right?

So swipe hits (RB / R1) better than the smash hit (RT / R2)?

R1, R1, R2 seemed to work well, and give time to do a sir robin.

Well, we can only try it when we attempt to finish the fight.

Also, Icebreaker is and always will be my favourite on PvE. Still got 3 more dmg slot to upgrade and as a 2.0 version, it does the job perfect at dispatching knights with 2 headshots.

e:
All done legit, so this is the one to mimic.

Each time swordsman get the sword, he goes through a bubble with weapon of light. All done before the Ogres!

Two slashes and one slam (if you have time) is the best damage I think, it takes off around 50,000, while three slam attacks is around 40,000-41,000. I've seen people get in more if you're very fast and time it all perfectly, but you're probably better off getting your three attacks in and getting safe.

No need to get greedy with the damage, you have plenty of time!

It's all the timing, and needing consistent damage on Crota. Gjallarhorn works wonders to get him down fast but that is sometimes too fast.

Personally I save my rockets to get him down a second time as the sword bearer will be close to crota from the first set of attacks, normal fire will take him down quick enough while your sword guy actually gets up there and in position.

Righteous_Rabbit, I will probably be playing my hunter as that's the only class I already have at lv31

If he's doing that you arent getting the first sword bearer down fast enough. Crota seems to be on a time pattern as far as i can tell, if you get the swordbearer down quick then you get two goes at damaging him in the centre with the first sword. Take too long and he'll run right and you risk losing the sword before you can get him down/run over to the right side with the sword. This is where a higher team attack rating is a bonus. Without it, i've been having to g-horn the swordbearer myself before i pick the sword up, simply because its too slow without.

I wouldn't worry about it, didn't go too well haha. Get your alt up to level and up for a double normal run sometime if you want :)

I meant do the attack, then when crota stands up, use the sword slash to propel yourself away from him as its faster than running or jumping. Not been hit by him since i started doing that.

Well if it works for you then great. Rockets just seem to be too unpredictable for the sword bearer and with crota moving from the centre there is no rush to get his shield down anyway, you are only going to get two rounds of sword bashing in before he moves right whether you're using voc, or any other weapon. Yes getting the sword bearer down quickly is handy, however, it won't mean another one spawning so quickly that you will get more than two sword rounds in before crota moves and/or the ogres arrive will you?

Like I said, our sword guy last night got five R2 hits in on him because of our countdown.

I don't know. We havent tried for a third sword bearer before the ogres yet. You do realise that swapping everyones VoC for a 331 scout will still be predictable, just quicker don"t you? So instead of swordbearer running out when crotas at 30% health, he just runs out at 50% instead? But for EVERYTHING else, its better being quicker. Dispose of adds quicker and theres less chance of people getting down or taking damage, swordbearers down faster, ogres down faster.
