Also, the fatwbringer and praetorian foil are by far the best drops from the raid. Myhtoclast got killed when they nerfed it but the foil is a lovely gun. 2 shots to take an oracle out solo on hard mode and i still havent unlocked the final damage upgrade for it. Fatebringer i havent started with properly yet but the few mins playing i have had it seems very good so far. Got 2 fatebringers now and only done the templar 5-6 times so a pretty good drop rate. I'd recommend holding out for them.

I have the foil.
I was playing a normal run through with Davey last night and using it. Mine still has 2 damage slots to unlock but I was still doing decent damage to praetorians and rinsing standard minators in a couple of hits.

Try and take him down with the relic as a level 29 and you're doing 33 % less damage to him than a level 30 would do. It takes 5 smash attacks with the relic to take him down. Assuming you can last long enough to hit him that many times.

That's your biggest problem doing hard. Most successful atheon defeats will consist largely of runs into the "mars" portal

As youve said, thats the biggest problem, everything else is extremely doable as a 29, but get stuck with a bad roll and draw Venus every time and you are knacked.
In fact, even if you draw venus it isnt SO bad, but I cant think of a run where we havent been dicked because of him glitching and not dying when he should.

The best 3 tips Ive learned recently if it helps anyone, probably not as most are seasoned raiders by now but this was the difference between win and lose on hard mode...

1) DO focus fire on Minotaur on Venus before focusing on Oracles
2) DONT fire or grenade Hobgoblin on Mars, let Relic holder attack first
3) DONT grenade Atheon - it causes him to move around and makes him harder to hit during times vengeance

I also need to finish Atheon on hard if you have a spot for a lv29 hunter? I won't lose any sleep over it if you don't as I didn't expect to get it finished before reset.

That's fine, we'll just have 2 30s instead. If we get Mars teleports it shouldn't make much if a difference.

I happy to run it twice if that helps and bring a 30 that's done it to help improve our chances - sure Reeve could do the same - just need 6 people that happy to do Atheon twice though...

I don't mind doing it twice, we just have to figure out who will use which character for the first run.

I'm actually curious if its worth taking a different approach to the portal phases and instead of playing defensive classes(Sunsinger/Defender) just use the Titan and Voidwalker supers to nuke the middle at the start. You will always have a full super bar at the end of the first round to nuke with, so may as well put it to good use.

I don't know how well such an idea would work out in practice.

Hey guys I am Drunzer's brother I only seen the post there now and he has been at work most of the day so he didn't see the reply's either, but I was talking to him there and he said he won't be able to get on until 9 or 9:30 if that's suits you guys if not he said you can go on ahead. I am still up for it at any point now.
