Am running one of these powwered by an Asus 7950 which has 1 x Dvi + 1 x Hdmi & 2 mini Dp connectors.

Dvi connection - generally great picture but no Bios screen - which could prove problematical gien the fact that if I forget to wait for 20/30 sec after switching on at the wall before starting the pc the motherboard will not see the vertex 3 ssd and will not start :( necesitating a re-boot & re-config. in the bios.

Would def. prefer to 'see' the bios on the new monitor ( rather than keeping a n other monitor in the room for occasional (hopefully) use.)

Having read thru this thread my interpretaion is that the answer is either :-

1. Connect thru the vga connector - although a careful read leads me to believe that this is not always succesful & not sure if this works when I would have to use the Dvi connection to begin with; or

2. Connect thru Display Port which does , always?, work

Decided to give it a go with the DP connection but would appreciate advise :-

I assume that the mini dp ports are just as good/ viable as a full size dp ? ( upon the assumption that it is I have ordered a DP to mini dP cable- not too bad at just over a fiver) or is there a downside?e.g I assume that the signal etc is just as good as DVi connection or would it be worse? Any problems to be watched for?
I assume that if I disconnect the Dvi before fixing the dp; when I switch on the monitor will find & use the new connection without me having to do it for it or will I need to adjust the monitor via the osd?

Would very much appreciate input - my thanks in anticipation:)

Other than the size they're exactly the same.

I have three of these monitors and two are connected to one of my PCs with miniDP to DP cables.

The signal is just as good as DVI, they're both digitial.

miniDP connectors aren't as robust as the full size ones but I have no issues.

Switch off PC, swap cables, switch on PC.

The monitor should detect where the signal is coming from.

wow so no bios with this screen?

no fix due anytime soon

it depends what graphics card you have - it's to do with the way the dvi controller interacts with the one on the monitor

you can switch on to a VGA cable and it then displays the bios, bit of a ball ache switching back and forth but for £300+ saving over a Dell it's acceptable

the reason it works even usinga DVI to VGA adaptor / cable is because the VGA controller on the monitor is different to the DVI one and does work

no idea on the catleap, sorry

edit: or for the sake of a £3-4 display port cable - that is the simplest solution

thx yeah a display port cable sounds a good fix, perhaps the catleaps are working still :)

Many thanks for the advise ,partic. Surveyor , very helpful :)

Will give it a go with the dp cable as & when to hand but hopefully.....

Would add that the quality of the screen picture is so good that I would not consider returning under dsr just because I might occasionally have to connect a n other monitor to view the bios.

:DBUT am now considering a dsr return (at a cost of £10 to, at the most £20) and then re-order at the new discounted price (which gives a net saving of £24 - £34!):(;)

You're welcome.

Start a thread in Customer Services.

OcUK may do something for you rather than have a returned monitor on their hands.

You can but ask.

Thanks, again , Surveyor - I have written and will see what happens ; as you said one can but ask.

al4x - As I thought when I bought - I can always use DSR if it's not for me, cost of returning £10 - £15 (assuming free shipping). Not that much of a gamble.
