Diane Abbott suspended as Labour MP after racism letter

On the actual topic at hand, the woman has left absolutely zero doubt in anyone's mind that she shouldn't be left in charge of a cupcake, let alone serve as an MP. She's very likely to have been in the crosshairs ever since her dumbass fling Corbyn got kicked out of the hot seat and has gradually been ******* everyone off more and more with her absolute delusion and stupidity. This letter was probably the nail in the coffin.

I don't like making fun of stupid people as you never know their back story but when someone as thick as her starts trying to throw her weight around, she needs kicking out. She's the poster child for the Dunning Kruger effect.

It's just a shame that in this country we currently have a choice between morally bankrupt, greedy, corrupt creeps on the face of the earth, or a party struggling to look slightly more competent than a goldfish with a learning disability.

I often see the vids on Youtube from parliament and think "really? All the people in this country and this is the best we can do?"
And perhaps more pertinent: how are people like this getting into jobs like that?

How many people did she beat off to get in the position to be selected. And then how many people supported and voted for her over all these years.

In my twisted mind I see people like this and think "**** it, let's give them the keys to the country for a month and see what happens". I mean everything. Immigration, taxes, international trade, the lot.

But then I remember that I rather enjoy not having to rub sticks together for fire and then reality sets in.
Liz Truss says hello!

She must be doing something right. She’s had numerous gaffes, and this is clearly a complete disaster. But, she has a huge majority so is she at least a good constituency MP?

Her logic obviously appeals to her constituents(local party, who nominated her?) , or, maybe, people just vote for the colour of the flag - the real nub of the problem.

e: like potentially voting for Keir

I find it really surprising people don’t understand (or at least are ignorant to) the difference between someone who follows Judaism and ethnic Jews. Especially considering most of us grew up in schools where WW2 and the holocaust were taught.

I think for a lot of people that haven't grown up in a multinational setting or lived abroad they just see white, black, brown, Asian.

Also personally as I mentioned I only know jews that are followers of judaism, the people I know are quite rude about non religious jews and almost deny them being ethnic jews. Hence my question/observation of the ethnic differentiation that seems often ignored.

This is one of the big issues and tensions about Palestine and the state or israel, unfortunately religion conflates a lot of these issues. It's a shame as they share their ancestry is deeply intertwined.

Also a lot of Caucasian-looking people are also ignored for being of an ethnic minority, because they "look" similar. Again I firmly believe this causes more problems as people don't see past skin colour whereas ethnicity is much more than skin deep.

However regardless how a politician like her can even make those comments would be hilarious if it wasn't so damning...

Unfortunately as ever there are going to be people with chips on their shoulders or who feel entitled owing to the sins of others from past rather than trying to move forward they misrepresent the past to suit their agenda.

Her constituency is a labour stronghold, to be fair you could stick any labour candidate in there and they would retain.

why do nearly all threads in GD eventually turn into a race discussion.

Can't we all just mourn the loss of Abbott knowing we wont get to watch the calamity that is her life play out in front of all of us. I, for one, am sad I wont see her making a total moron of herself more frequently.
if it were not for the fact that she has / had a pretty important job i may agree with you.......... but she did, so alas despite getting a few laughs out of her over the years over all i think it is a depressing state of affairs that people that rubbish get such important jobs (plenty wearing blue pants who also tick the same box)

i dont care if she is racist or just thick............ she needs to find a new job far out of politics imo.

that has to be down to partisan voting surely rather than a belief in her competence? Even if she goes, looking at those numbers literally anyone could be the labour candidate there and get in.

I'm not sure because she has held the seat for a very long time and her constituents speak highly of her. However, to be sure we need to change the voting system and bring much needed competition. There should be no such thing as a truly safe seat.

I see Kier has put out a small statement... I'm a little confused though. Why does he say that her comments are anti-semetic with no mention of the other groups Abbot wrote about (Irish and Travellers)?

Why call out the abhorrence of her letter but isolate only one group. Do the others not matter as much?

well it is true that it is possible to be a good MP for your local community regardless of everything else i guess.....

It would seem there is a hierarchy of acceptable racism after all.

Its what the Forde report was all about.

I googled race and ethnicity.

So, are all humans one "race" with various ethnicities. Or does humanity have different races which in themselves have different eithnicities?

I assumed, other than religion whether born into or converted, people of the same skin colour and other visual similarities defined the race? Never really thought about it tbh.

Essentially Abbott was saying only black people can be victims of racism. Irrespective of any other denomination you care to mention.

Yes we are the human race but with ethnicities within our race.

Abbott is an idiot.

Just goes to show how ridiculous our voting system is. Left her brain on the sideboard and still gets voted in. Absolutely ridiculous.
