DirectX 12

I just looked at the Steam Survey. if we are to believe them then we are to believe none of their users have the following.

HD 7790
R7 240
R7 250
R7 260
R7 260X
R9 270
R9 270X
R9 280X
R9 290
R9 290X

GTX Titan
GTX 780TI

How long have those GPUs been out?

Yeah, a very reliable survey.

THat's because they never asked me for a survey. If they did then there would at least be 1 290 owner lol.

Other - 36.24%

Sorry, when the steam survey comes around it's a completely random selection of users. And, I am nearly sure if you opt out when it asks, you don't ever get asked again. You will only get included again in the random selection if you reinstall steam or move to a new computer.

I am not going to argue the figures. The steam survey might be an accurate representation of what hardware gamers are using, I don't know, but neither does anyone else.

However, I would bet that more people don't do the survey than do it. A lot of people when they see the word "survey" just click close straight away. And others are completely paranoid about privacy and would never select it.

Somebody else in the thread said that integrated CPU's aren't for serious gaming. LOL, You can't just say that integrated GPU's don't count for gaming just because they don't fit your criteria of what gaming is. Lots of people game quite happily at lowest detail levels and don't care for anything better.

And then there is the other side of the coin, how many people buy discrete GPU's and never game on them? Like how many coin miners have filled out a steam survey??

My point is, that the only figures we can go on are the overall sales figures. We don't know what the video cards are been used for and unless we go door to door and ask everyone we will never know for sure.

Out of the 65 million + accounts in existence, the people that have submitted their data (as I pointed out in my original post) give a fairly good representation. It's difficult to say just how many of those 65 odd million decline the survey, but it's not like one you get when buying a product. I think with this in particular people are more inclined as putting aside the ones that will just do it anyway, you've got people interested in what other people are running. As is the nature sometimes with PC hardware.

It's undeniably a reasonable representation. Unless someone is suggesting it's mostly AMD users that choose not to participate :D

Edit: removed first part as misread, read it as if you opt in you only get asked once.

Right. :D

AMD's entire range from late 2013 is missing from the survey, how many GPUs would that be?

It's not missing, it's just not in the top xx amount of cards. 36.24% of users graphics cards have been bundled together, that means each one of those cards counts for less than 0.50% of those polled. The high number of HD4000/3000s could also be hiding those cards, if the survey has picked that as the dominant card.

There are GPU's there @ 0.30%.

You want me to believe that by some coincidence all of AMD's latest range in the past 6 moths have not made it higher than a HD 4890?

lol...

52.38% Nvidia
31.03% AMD
Rest = garbage nobody games on :P

from that you have 83.41% usable.

52.38 is 62.8% of 83.41
31.03 is 37.2% of 83.41

So as far as Steam gamers are concerned:

62.8% Nvidia
37.2% AMD

This entire post is garbage. Just because a GPU doesn't run BF4 at 60fps doesn't mean no one games on it. There are plenty of games on steam that are not taxing and run fine on intel integrated. You can't just exclude it because it suits your numbers.

That's a conspiracy i'll leave to you and your tin hat mate ;):D

Its not a conspiracy, its just plain junk, i have been asked to take part in the survey twice in the past few years, Matt has never been asked in 10 years.

AMD's entire range of later GPU's (out for some 6 Months) are not there because they have never been recorded, that's a lot of GPU's.

You can when it's the graphics *card* forum :D
We only deal with discreet cards here :p

He was joking :)

People need to chillax a little and not worry so much :)

Ohhh and currently, there are 5,212,237 Steam users. So quite a few use Steam and that makes the survey pretty valid IMO.

You don't half sound crazy lol.
Want more tin foil?

Your just trying wind me up now.

You're winding yourself up :p
It could be the 'large' almost disproportionate amounts of IntelHD graphics are masking the 'missing' AMD cards, if the survey picks those as the dominate card then the minor card will not be tallied up, you never know! It's a goddamn conspiracy i tell you!!!

Don't engage with the crazies or you will end up the same :p

The survey is monthly and asks 1/12th of its userbase per month (thats just over 400,000 users) so in theory everyone should get asked once a year.

Cards that aren't shown are usually pooled into the 'other' section of dx11 gpu's, enthusiasts and the latest cards are very uncommon through out steams user base, especially with the rise in popularity of indie type games that don't require much grunt at all.
