DiRT 4

I'm finding Dirt 4 more difficult than dirt rally with an Xbox 360 controller in simulation mode with all assists off excluding automatic gears. I play on champion difficulty. I'm using the 2017 Ford Fiesta in Dirt 4 vs the Mini in Dirt Rally. You have to be much more careful with throttle and brake in Dirt 4 due to improved modelling of weight. Also, I can get the cars to slide fairly easily.

I am a rookie player in Dirt Rally. However, I've been playing quite a lot of it recently and have been getting quite good with the aforementioned Mini. I'm not sure why I'm having trouble with Dirt 4 when it's supposed to be easier, although I haven't played much of it yet. I've enjoyed what I've played so far and think there are some genuine improvements, other than the graphics looking better in some areas than dirt rally and worse in others while performing significantly worse.

Had a direct comparison with Rally and 4 is definitely more realistic, no contest. I had my doubts due to the massive onslaught of criticism but now I don't know what those people were smoking.

They've done what they promised. Rally definitely felt weird and floaty when I tried it again yesterday. I could get away with stuff in Rally which is immediately punished in 4 e.g. braking hard and not deaccelerating before a corner soon enough. Some slight tweaks and it'll be golden.

I though Rally was slightly more pleasant to drive but now I'm not even sure about that.
I'm not even sure about the graphics, handcrafted stages and vegetation look better in Rally but everything is blurry and weirdly post-processed. It's just Greece that looks great, not the game. And there are also elements I've already listed that look better in 4.

If they concentrate on adding variety to Your Stage and changing its algorithms (and add DLC), this will be a solid 9/10.This is my biggest gripe with the game ATM.

make sure you adjust your car set ups for each car.people are starting to find that the set ups can be massive.some are decent at default but some are not great and just so people can drive them.

i just tried for the first time the renault alpine.on spain.that is amazing.almost worth buying the game for.once you get used to it can throw it into hairpins slide round them.its amazing.

Have to concur!

I'm just loving that feeling when you hook up a series of corners perfectly, you judge the initial braking point perfectly, shifting down in the process, you can just sense the weight transfer, swing the wheel round just right no need to saw at it and set the slide angle just spot on, use the throttle just to coax the back end exactly where you want it. I let out an involuntary giggle out every time. The best thing is its repeatable, its predictable, once you find that groove you can keep it going over the entire stage.

Just under 2 hours in now and after my initial disappointment it really has started to grow on me. I've only used my PS4 controller, will get the wheel combo out this weekend.

I still think graphically it's a downgrade on the previous titles but the gameplay is there so swings and roundabouts !

Got to laugh the pace notes are spot on , Oztralia for one instance going up hill pace notes "crest right 2" most hill gradients you tend to put your foot down. So l went over the crest at a far lick and there was no way l could slow down for the right turn so l shot off the road down a small embankment, pace notes should have said "crest slow right 2 or crest brake right 2".

The heavy fog or smog is a killer l'm sure l got passed by dellboy in his 3 wheeler.

But it does make for interesting ralling no doubt, bring it on.:D

you can adjust the calls to be earlier or later in settings.one of my favs is a 6 that gets called in australia and its a bad hair pin :p

Been playing this for a bit now (6 hours) and, whilst the game itself is good, the pace notes are badly broken.

Whenever you're in a fast series of 5/6 sweeping bends, building speed, it just doesn't keep up and then suddenly announces a 1/2/3 bend as you're arriving at it at 100+. Useless.

I've managed to borrow a G29 plus gear shifter to have a little play tonight. My trusty old Saitek R440 wheel has finally met its match and the game just crashes when it's plugged in.

Well that was rubbish. :( It starts off OK, I get around 85 fps, then as the stage progresses, the fps start to drop to 18 fps where it becomes uncontrollable and I crash. This continues at 18 fps for the next race too. A restart of the game clears it but it starts again. If I unplug the wheel, the fps climbs up to 40 fps. I would have thought a wheel of this quality would work well.

Lock your GPU's FPS to match your monitors refresh rate, using a 980Ti FPS is locked at 60 as my monitors refresh is only 60HRTz.

If your monitor refresh is say 144 lower it to 100.

Using a T500RS wheel no problems at all.

No problems at all Dirt 4 is smooth as butter, l'v always down that.

Thank you for your suggestion. Do you mean, enable Vsync? I'll give that a go but I don't hold much hope! I think this is a compatibility issue with Creator's update and the G29. This game seems pretty bad for PC and I regret buying it.

Try it-enable Vsync, but l prefure to use RivaTuner in Afterburner to lock the GPU'S FPS l believe its a better method never had any trouble and disable vsnyc.

Dirt 4 only had one black screen been running fine since then.

Amazing! Sorted it by your suggestion! Thank you very much. :)
