DiRT 4

you really need to try all different cars and all different surfaces.they all react differently.the fiesta and r2 cars that you start with are stupidly slow and handle badly like they are on rails.its to build you up for the higher speed cars and as it gets harder.

play for a day not a hr or two then re access. just played with the pug 306 on tarmac pushed it as hard as i could.absolutely amazing.

Yeah, the Fiesta R2 was awful. You're exactly right, it felt a bit like a was driving a tram:p Other cars I've tried are a lot better. It'll take some time to get used to the new handling as it feels completely different but I can see myself playing both games. So far, the only location I'm not digging is Michigan, looks quite poor.

On the upside, it's great that we can now drive at twilight when it's not completely dark. Great atmosphere.

DS4 works a treat, will be dropping the 360 controller.

Sweden looks and feels surprisingly good, like it more than in Rally.

Hmmm. Unless I can find some decent T300 settings or a FFB mod I'm afraid I'll be getting a refund on this. The feeling I get through the wheel is soooooo muted its horrible. I honestly thought the simulation mode would have been more of a challenge than it actually is.

Give the game a chance don't forget we had early access to Dirt Rally so a lot of the issue's were put right before the official release we did not have this with Dirt 4 for the PC.

Probably the stage generator. It was quite obvious the assets it could work with would be quite limited. We have a seemingly infinite number of stages now but they all feel a lot more plain and artificial.
What's a bigger surprise to me is that I can't hold locked 60fps at 1440p on a 1070...

Same here with 2xTXM. My observations are that there is no SLI support and the game appears to be single threaded which might be the problem.

A few have said graphics are bad so when was the last time you calibrated your monitor go to TFT Cental look for you monitor model as they have proper ICC Profiles and Monitor Settings.

Give it a go to see if it improves your monitor graphics Gamma and Colour settings link below-

I don't think that will change much, all the other games I have look all right.
I'm not saying the game looks absolutely rubbish but definitely worse than Rally and I think it's mainly down to lack of proper shadowing, especially on tress, and the overall colour palette. Maybe SFX/Reshade can make it better.

Regarding perforomance, there's still room for patches etc. and after dropping shadows to high I get locked 60fps with negligible visual difference.

Have you downloaded latest drivers?

definitely use the latest nvidia and amd drivers.

as for handling then if you get it right its better overall than dirt rally.

pue check my video on the tarmac maximum attack i did last night with the peugeot 306 maxi.that combo is amazing.

Yup, latest drivers and the game is patched.
I also think there is some improvement in certain visual aspects but overall the game just looks and feels a lot different than Rally, it doesn't feel like a Codies game to me. I even find it more challenging than Rally because the cars behave a bit weirdly and I can't find my rhythm yet. It's quite curious because sometimes it feels pretty damn good. Will give it a proper go today.

The criticism it's getting is vastly overblown but the first run in the Fiesta has almost killed it for me, no car in Rally felt this bad.

just ignore the R2 cars they are like trainer wheels.after that most cars are really good.surfaces are totally different so it takes a bit of practice.im just starting to get it dialed in a bit now and im about 40 hrs in.thats not will all the cars about half maybe.some i havent even driven yet.so its not a 1-2 hr fair judgement thing.

I have been trying for a few hours to get Dirt 4 to feel a little bit more like Dirt Rally in terms of FFB. Dirt 4 in comparison feels rather muted in terms of feedback. Well i have been messing around and may have found a way to increase the feeling of FFB in the game.

**PLEASE NOTE : I have no idea if this is ok to use online so use at your own risk **

Go to where Dirt4 is installed : steam/steamapps/common/dirt4/input/devices

You will see a file called "device_defines" - Open this with "Notepad"

In this file you will see a list of wheels and there supposed ffb values. As seen here :

https://gyazo.com/056b56179a6ea738cb3e1c20bed9b009

Find the particular wheel you use, so in my case the "tm_t300_rs"

You will see listed to the right "ffb_friction" & "ffb_force" - Try increasing these values. This is what mine is set to : https://gyazo.com/af4303a9f1a4188f076169c1004f254d

And these are my ingame settings (subject to change), im still tweaking : https://gyazo.com/cfbe76e30d09c66146e9180f21802d3e

For me it has definately improved the FFB in game and made everything a bit stronger, its not quite near the level of Dirt Rally but its a start at least.

Hopefully it'll give you guys a heads up and something to work on and hopefully improve the feeling for you.

Remember, i havent tested this online so i have no idea if its ok to use for online racing.....

nice work but..as you say watch what you mess with as it may get you banned online.there will be patches and tweaks being worked on.remember its been out one day.

Dirt rally was decent but somethings were wrong so you shouldn't be trying to replicate that handling.

Absolutely 100% overblown, no doubt about that. Of course it's far from perfect and has some issues, but reading some reviews you couldn't be blamed for thinking this was Big Rigs 2...

Why no steering centre force? That's just going to make it unrealistic?

Spain in the 306 does indeed feel very fine. I especially enjoy it from the cockpit view, just like Australia. Don't know why but I drive better in cockpit view, whereas I was better using chase cam in Rally (yes, I like seeing the whole car:p).

I wonder whether they'll be able to provide 1-2 more rally locations as paid DLC since they're not using real roads this time round? One more tarmac location like Japan and one more gravel would be great.

I've given it a few hours now and not impressed. They were telling some major pork pies when they said the simulation mode would be even more hardcore and sim like than Dirt Rally (which wasnt even that realistic in the first place despite being great fun). Brakes still far too effective and the tyres are insanely grippy which counters the joy of driving a RWD Rally car. Weight transfer does seem slightly improved though.

May still be a good game for many users but any proper sim heads who use a wheel and are looking for a realism upgrade on Dirt Rally are going to be disappointed... and this is reflected on all the sim racing forums I've visited today.

Dirt Rally 2 can't come soon enough.
