DiRT Rally Hits Steam Early Access

Im downloading it now,, but I haven't never used steam before and its putting the game in the steam folder, so Im guessing it will make a new folder in the steam folder and it wont just dump all the files in the steam folder?

2hrs 50mins left until I can give the game a whirl:D

are you guys abusing short cuts in league races?

seems suspect that some people are so much faster than everyone else.

as long as you can pass from one part of the track to another before the time runs out the game doesn't care if you cut.

just think how much time you can save on the downhill hairpin fests if you cheated

Steam downloads the game then installs it. It won't have 2 copies of the files. The only bloat files are things like direct x files. Nothing major. Double digit amount of meg. The folder will be in like this:

C:\Windows\Steam\Common\Steam apps\Dirt rally...

I think. Something like that. I'm on my phone.

Steam will install games to the Steamapps folder within the Steam installed directory.

You can go to Settings > Downloads > Steam Library Folders to create your own directory!

That won't work for Dirt Rally though as you already have it set to install to the base steamapps folder!

STOP ****ING STEERING!

I don't know if it's a bug or feature. But its driving me up the ****ing wall! I can't seem to just go in a straight line some times. And the actual steering wheel moves slightly to one direction of another! I've tested with 2 different 360 controllers... It's driving me insane and ruining the game for me a little.

I've noticed this, very difficult to hold a straight line. It's slightly irritating but nothing to stop me playing, wouldn't mind knowing what was going on though!

Also, tried to join the OCUK league countless times now and it's just spitting out errors constantly.

I hope no one is playing that dirty! I think the biggest time differences are due to off track penalties or actually going off track and damage. A few bits of damage adds up due to losing some speed/control.

Peeps might be cutting in the sense of a rally racer where you may hop over an apex but I doubt anyone is actually skipping corners/jumping over hairpins. Plus in the time I've done that by accident in my own races I've usually been far worse off due to the banking being so high on most corners!

Haha, so I just posted about constant errors trying to join the league, try once after posting and it appears to have worked. phl4sh might be the name for anyone doing the accepting.

I attempted it in the career mode, got two flats and rolled it down the cliff.... :o
okay maybe you can't on those downhill ones but I've done it on other places.
on one of the welsh tracks with all the grass fields you can just fly across the grass and skip 1-3 corners at a time .

sweet lamb has a bit where you go like this
BDN8lvM.jpg before the 2 water bits at the end/start as I think we did it in reverse for the league

I bet you can cut where the yellow lines are on the above image since it's pretty much just flat

there must be huge areas where the different parts of the circuits are within 8 seconds or so of each other letting you cut multiple corners.

they need to make the game so it can detect if you went around a corner or not.

just have a little check at the entry/exit of a corner, if your car doesn't pass the sensor you get a penalty

I'm not. I'll gladly post a video of my runs if required if anyone can suggest something decent that will capture eyefinity res gameplay.

Tried AB and it's a stutter-fest, even at half res during a replay.

Question for anyone using the default head / cockpit camera.

Do you have an onscreen tachometer OSD shown, or does it only appear in all the other views?

Ah Im glad it wont just dump the game in the steam folder, thanks for clearing that up guys. So Im guessing it deletes the install files after the game gets installed?

be nice if the game had ghost images or a proper scoreboard breakdown for the different stages instead of just showing the total times.

maybe some people are so fast because they reset the event a few times and kept doing it from the start.

seems like you can just crash alt+f4 and start the stage again though? yesterday I got 2 punctures so alt+r4 rage quit, when I restarted the game and was about to reset my league data the game wssn't aware I had already loaded that stage and gave up after a crash.

So I did the league Event today, was doing OK and then on the very last Stage I managed to destroy the Car at a ridiculously low speed, and got a DNF. I'd come out of a Hairpin very slowly but gone up the bank slightly and hit a tree, must have been doing 20Mph if that :o I wish I'd recorded it. :D

Is everyone else doing it in 'Hard Mode'? No Assists, Forced Camera etc. No Practising and doing it all in one session? Or just me? Some of those times are crazy good!

I think some of the assists maybe punish you.

take a hairpin with traction control on and the game will severely limit the power to the wheels when your at full lock to the point where you barely accelerate at all.
you pretty much slowly turn like your on asphalt.

certainly doesn't feel like

in fact as soon as I plugged in my wheel yesterday even with the same assists as keyboards just because I could modulate the throttle instead off on/off the cars seemed to accelerate so much faster

You can see the individual stage times for everyone on the League webpage.

Would be nice if they were shown in-game as well though before the stage begins ( you can see your steam friends times once the stage finishes )

I'll do 1 or 2 runs in custom mode then go & race the event.

No assists, only time shown on HUD & head cam for me.
Doesn't help much though :)

im good at welsh tracks but not played the others much yet as just been practicing them.

just got 1st place in welsh comps :D

mini seems so easy after racing the pug 205ti6 for last few days.

im sitting in 4th, only 45s from top and would consider my run pritty poor, could have easily made up thats time.
runing no assists or cutting corners.
have you considered youre crap at it :D joking

You can see the individual stage times for everyone on the League webpage.

when I select a stage for example stage 5 here
it just shows the time for stage1+2+3+4+5 added together and not the actual stage 5 times.
PPgH8eL.jpg
In game when you actually finish the stage it shows you but as far as I can work out after that it's impossible to see them unless you get a calculator out and deduct the other stage times

have you considered youre crap joking
I'm crap and took it a bit easy but at this point I wouldn't have expected some people to be running away by such large margins over others.
on the final stage when I did it yesterday I was only 8 seconds slower than whoever was fastest at that point on that stage but on some others I lost a full minute and honestly wonder if a large part of that is cutting corners

after stage 5 Arknor +02:14.460
after stage 6 Arknor +02:22.626

How come the fastest stage 6 time seems so slow?
