DiRT Rally Hits Steam Early Access

I only come like 5th in clubman :D

was playing some more dirt for a few hours yesterday and I'm okay on the slow tracks but the ones with loads of flat out sections I'm to scared of clipping the sides of the road.

you guys are playing with all assists off too?

had a Wales stage yesterday where virtually the whole course must have been flat out scared the hell out of me lol

I'm using the group b metro though maybe it just sucks.

always seems like if I turn to much rather than going into a slide the back end just acts like I hit the hand brake and the car does an uncontrollable 180.
You guys are able to recover when this happens?

Best thing is to just counter steer and floor the gas? never seems to work for me though.

in real life the cars always want to go in the direction of the momentum and seem easy to recover.
they can land almost sideways after a jump and still fly off in a straight line.
Is it just a short wheel base thing? it seems in line with the FFB there's a point where there's almost no force on the wheel at all but as soon as I turn enough for the ffb to start pulling on the wheel which isn't very much at all it's like it's a warning the back end is going to go even though the steering angle should still be pretty shallow

hold the bite on the wheel . the metro is good just not as good as the pug.

you can go insanely fast on wales . think im 2nd in world with pug on wales but i practiced a hell of a lot with it.

learning corners and when you just brake slide corners and when to handbrake helps.

wales you can literally go flat out every track with practice. it is terrifying on some bits at speed though :p

im starting to love monaco aswell now practiced it more but it is more challenging than wales or greece.

MEH decided to open my pedals and stick some foam where the bit shiny metal springs contact the outer casing because my brake pedal was annoying me and I could here the sprint click against the plastic casing.

the game won't let me reverse because my throttle was flicking at 3% according to windows and only went up to 80% throttle lol
I tried calibrating the pedals again in windows and its like the game totally ignores the settings...

I opened the pedals again to try and fix it and set the calibration back to default and it seems fine now and always goes back to 0% without me needing to calibrate the pedals

but the stupid game won't let me reverse unless I set the throttle dead zone to 10% which sucks :(

Tested pcars and it doesn't think my throttle is flickering but dirt still does wtf :(

I've found that, you have to hold in Brake until the car stops, press Brake again to put it in reverse, then press Brake again to accelerate in reverse.

Aye, its just annoying sometimes when you lose 4s trying to get the car to face the right way. Of course, the real trick is to make sure the car doesnt point the wrong way in the first place!

you are pressing once then pressing it again to select reverse ?

yea I could be at 0mph and be smacking the brake in and out and it would just sit in first gear.

I rebooted my comp and the wheel and it seems fine now.
maybe the wheel it self needed to recalibrate with the pedals connected when it does the whole power on thing and works out the rotation of the wheel or whatever it's doing.

really hate this stupid group b metro though :@
just seems like it over steers so easily and then can't be recovered and over jumps the car just doesn't feel safe to me

I've supposedly spend 22 hours ingame and feel crap still but enjoy the games love/hate relationship

It's almost like the steering feel different every race and from about 11oclock to 1 oclock on the wheel there's no feel at all seems to trick my mind into thinking there's a dead zone

How do you guys with Driving Force GT have handbrake configured?

I've got it default on button 3 which is O button.

but I barely ever use the damn thing, even on hairpins I'll be going like 50mph tap the hand brake for a split second and do a 360 almost and end up facing towards where I just came from.
then other times I'll perfectly counter steer around the corner like a pro.

so I tend to avoid it :P

wish the game had a rally school with a figure of 8 for practising sliding around corners

at 7:55 apparently his first time playing and he's a dirtfish rally school instructor and Ford Fiesta GRC Lites driver

seems to get the hang of it fine :S I'll be like in the trees somewhere with the hand brake rammed up my ass

manual will be quicker if you do it accurately .

thing is on some tracks that are so fast tight bends and such a auto will be very close as its less to think about as you race.

just beat my sweet lamb time with the pug 205t16

was 5:48.002 now 5:46.419 :D

was on my way to winning the wales masters. now just greece to go then all won.

May swap to using the paddles as changing down on the gt can take a while. Would work well for handbrake I guess.

Will try tonight and report back.
