DiRT Rally Hits Steam Early Access

I'm definitely no Pro-Driver in real life or Video Games but they're really making this Game out to be a lot harder than it actually is... It's good but it's not even close to 'Sim' :p

Easily playable on a Gamepad with all the assists OFF, you're definitely not going to fly off or crash on your first bend unless you're holding the Gamepad upside down or something.

It sure is a lot of fun though! It felt just like playing DiRT3 that's been modded to me TBH which is no bad thing! :cool:
 
Did you get punctures in dirt 3 ? because i just got two on both the front tires :cool:

I've just played a good 8-12 races and wowzers! :D

I think it feels great and super scary when you are going at speed which wasn't that often for me as it is super tricky. I could see after a few more hours becoming accustom to the controls/limits of the cars.

So far so good though, feels a lot different from the classic DiRTs but does remind me of Colin McRae in the aesthetics.
 

what people wont get who haven't played it is the damage and penalty system is pretty brutal :D

tyres pop,wheels come off. so you have to drive it right and not crash :p
 
Anyone slating Codemasters was obviously not around or a gamer back in the days of the Amstrad CPC64/C64 when they produced such amazing games such as the Dizzy series: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dizzy_(series)

Well colour me impressed! It appears CM still do remember how to make a proper rally game!

Proper stages with corners you need to brake for. No flashbacks. Proper pace notes that you need to actually listen too. A handling model that varies depending on the surface. Damage that carries over between events that you need to fix. Tuning with more than 5 levels of tune. Decent cars. And best of all, a menu thats just got menu stuff on it and no random crap!

Obviously this will tank then :p. None of the kids who play Dirt 2/3 even know that Colin McRae Rally even existed, and theres no way they will be able to keep their attention up for a 6 minute stage without Kenny from the Block or Travis Pastrami shouting in their ear.
 
Is it just me, or is this already really good ?
I was a big fan of the pre-dirt rally games but this feels noticeably more simmy & demanding than those.
I really struggled at first but the handling (playing on 360 pad) feels really good, like 'I can rise to this challenge' vibe.
And the purity of it is so nice - no trucks, no jeeps, no fireworks on the menus, no excitable commentators. I hope if its a success & they line it up for consoles it keeps this fairly bare-bones menu structure.
Graphics look great to me but I haven't followed this genre (ie racing games in general) for a few years because nothing grabbed me - I think this might be the one.

Performance :
Running on the system in my sig at 2560 x 1440
'High' preset, AA set to the post process one, can't remember the exact name, the one below msaa x 2.
Benchmark giving pretty rock-solid 60fps. W7000 = exactly 7870 but with 4gb VRAM for gaming purposes.

I'm definitely getting this. And you can hear the stones hit the underneath of the car!!

Couple of questions,
Have you turned off your co driver? If so.. You know that run well!
Are there leaderboards up yet? This could be a lot of fun racing against the clock beating each other.
And is there a single player drive though kinda thing? Like beat these races to get this and so on.
 
When was the last time Codie$ did a decent driving game? TOCA 2 (NOT Toca Race Driver 2) in 1998?

How many times since then have they released a promising title, but then failed to fix fundamental issues, before moving swiftly on to the next "cash cow?"

Why are they using the old game engine, when F1 2015 (due in the next few months) is just around the corner?

Why do their racing titles always have **** default wheel defaults, using nothing like the modern day 900 degrees of rotation?

Anyone found typical major stage exploits yet, that allow you to cut chunks of the stage out, an issue going back to Colin McRae 2, making leaderboard times a joke?
