5870 £329.99 for the cheapest 1gb model and £399.99 for the 2gb one

5850 £269.99 again for the cheapest.

but if benchmarks are true then the 5870 is faster than a 295, so prices are about right aren't they?

Yep, in some senses, but remember that we haven't seen the X2's.

I'm guessing £243.73 for the 5850

£281.82 for the 5870 1gb

£311.46 for the 5870 2gb

I think they sound reasonable, but TBH I'd be suprised if they where that cheap at launch if nVidia don't hurry up.

I'll be looking to buy when 2gb 4870 is about £225-275.

I'm saying 300+ for mostly all of them maybe in the 200's for the 5850

I won't be spending my money on any of them for those prices

Some people/fanboys forget ATI is a company, which needs to make money. They will poosibly have the fastest single GPU (for once) and will obviously charge more for it.
It also has a bigger die size so will cost more to manufacture.

Exactly, people assume that just because the 4xxx series were value for money the rule will always apply.
