Discussion On The ATI Radeon 5*** Series Before They Have Been Released Thread

I can't stand Crysis myself either, but you do wonder how well this card will hold up in 6 months time don't you, when it struggles on that annoying but amazing looking game. Also dosen't say much on current crop of cards if this is fastest GPU around.

Ive said many times, PC gaming graphics are downright shocking and average, yet when a game like Crysis makes the effort to make gaming graphics HOW THEY SHOULD BE, no card can run it on highest settings.

Come back in 5 years, then we will have a card maxing out a 7yr old game:D

Ready for a spell of Monday-morning speculation? Good, 'cause our sources tell us that AMD has a Radeon HD 5890 in the works.

We're told the card will be a single-GPU solution, and judging by the nomenclature, it should become AMD's quickest.

Later this week, the Sunnyvale, California-based semiconductor manufacturer will launch its first next-generation DirectX 11 graphics cards, the ATI Radeon HD 5850 and ATI Radeon HD 5870 - with the latter said to be priced at €319.99.

Speculation suggests that AMD will unleash a dual-GPU variant - the Radeon HD 5870 X2 - shortly after the launch of its 5000-series products, but a time frame for the Radeon HD 5890 remains unknown. Conjecturing somewhat, the card is likely to feature a faster-clocked RV800 GPU and we presume it'll slot in between the Radeon HD 5870 and Radeon HD 5870 X2.

The news should come as no surprise considering that AMD previously usurped its Radeon HD 4870 with the faster-clocked 4890. Nonetheless, a potential Radeon HD 5890 is something to bear in mind for those planning on getting their hands on AMD's soon-to-be-fastest single-GPU solution, the Radeon HD 5870.

Sorry if already been posted, couldn't be bothered to go back through the thread, to bloody huge. :p

who needs 16x AA at above 1080p, seriously? what difference is it actually making. i think it the fault of people obsessed with running 'maxed out'.

Fastest single GPU on the planet, still can't run a 2yr old game on all the highest settings at decent FPS:o:o:o

Seriously does no one ever sit back, and just think...........we are getting shafted;)

Come now... don't let their frothing mouths mislead you! This is all well reasoned discussion and not in the slightest bit fanb..... ahem never mind.

By time that comes out, the new Nvidia cards be out, then obviously a new card from ATI. So in space of around 6 months the fastest single GPU in the world be 3 different cards.........great. :D

Note for future: Just buy a card and enjoy it, instead of waiting!

Could this possibly include the 8800GTX which is still a top notch card even today...?

There are still people with 8800GT/S/X's that have held out a generation 'cos they are still capable. Crysis is a poor example, it's a well known fact it needed and received major patching, Crysis Warhead was a further improvement.
I only got rid of my 8800GTX at the end of last year and yes they were great cards, arguably nvidia's finest. However, I think crysis (poorly optimised or not) is still a good example, considering it was MS's dx10 poster boy.

You must admit though, the 8800 was never really up to the challenge, even with warhead. The fact is if you wanted to experience crysis even close to the way crytek intended, you defiantly needed a high end 4000 or 200 series card. Unfortunately, since crysis was released, PC gaming has stagnated as publishers have pushed developers away from PC exclusives and towards multi-platform to maximise their profits.

I definitely agree with you on this. Obviously people only have current titles to compare with older cards but surely the whole point of these cards performance comes from dx11 improves like tesselation and such. I just hope to god dx11 is nothing like the joke dx10 was - lots of promise and nothing in the end

All I hope is that ati/nvidia/ms and the developers have learnt their lessons from the flop of dx10 and make sure that the first wave of dx11 games run well on the first gen of dx11 cards; because PC gaming really does need a shot in the arm. I mean lets be honest, who here went through the time and expense of building or buying their rigs to see them turned into a glorified Xbox 360? - Of course PC gaming has been through these periods before, when a new wave of consoles have seen a flood of ports, but I've never known PC gaming to take so long to push ahead again as it is with the current gen of consoles. When all is said and done PC gaming can't afford dx11 to flop.

Oh god please don't start with the Crysis not running well whining, its years old, should all be over it now, i realy don't want this for the next 50 years at every new card release:(

What is it with you guys, ive seen about 10 different people post at Painlife & his "text speak", yes is rather annoying at times, but clearly easy to read, it is not his problem if the old folk on here are not hip enough:D

Not big deal, if it aint against forum rules, put up with it or don't read his posts. Don't all post same response at him everytime he makes a post:o

It's annoying and there isn't any need unless he's posting from a phone with a basic keypad.
