On another note, you will definately notice the difference when DX11 hits home and judging by devs outlook on games for 2010, this wont be very long at all so I'm actually in two minds at the moment, if the price isnt too aggressive I'll be getting one.

Crysis 2 2010? Assassin Creed II? Hitman 5? Max Payne 3? BF Bad Company II

all of those have got to be definate DX11 contenders... not to mention others..

I'm still very positive about this card, looking at the vantage scores show the brute-force of this card, I know its only a synthetic bench but even so..I think ATI will have some major driver updates for this card that will make it shine.

How the **** can you be disappointed by the results?!?
It's a next generation card. Of course it's going to look good compared to what's out now. But considering it has double the theoretical power of the 4890, with more than double the transistors (and a much bigger die), seeing only 50% more performance isn't very impressive. If Nvidia doubles up the performance of the 285 (which is possible given a 512-bit bus) then it won't be pretty.

Look at it this way: had the 2900 XT launched 3 months before the 8800 GTX, we would have seen the some of the same reactions, concerning the performance increase over the X1950 XTX and 7900 GTX.

Was the 2900 XT a bad card? No. Did it deliver the expected performance increase over the previous generation? No. The 5870 is like 2009's 2900 XT: both doubled up transistor counts, both introduced a new version of DirectX, and both seem to offer a similar performance boost.

Of course if Nvidia fail to execute, it may be enough. There may not be an 8800 GTX this time around. But it doesn't mean I have to be impressed. The transition from the 3870 to the 4870 was impressive. This isn't.

Even the 8800gtx got beaten in quite a number of games/benchmarks by the 7950GX2 on launch (until nVidia stopped supporting the 7950GX2 properly).

Also worth noting that there are possibly a few performance sapping gremlins in the driver department, since the 5870 is getting beaten by the 4870X2. Yet the 5870 is essentially an overclocked, single core 4870X2 (meaning it should have none of the crossfire overheads that the 4870X2 suffers).

im guessing the 5850 will be similar performance to 2 4850, cos looking at these benchmarks for the 5870 its slighty fast than the 4870x2

damn right they are good cards. And if someone says otherwise, its probably a guy with NVIDIA 285 or 295 under the hood.
