Distasteful vegan TV ad

It does cross my mind and sometimes doesn't sit comfortably, ultimately though they exist to be utilised by humans. If everyone stopped eating meat these animals are not going to just be left to go wild, most wouldn't last very long whether that's due to the weather or predators. What if there was a foot and mouth outbreak amongst the wild animals for example, how is that dealt with if there is nobody looking after and managing them anymore?

Yes these animals wont be killed anymore for our consumption but they would end up dying out in the end. Sounds depressing not having fields with Cows, Sheep etc.
But everyone becoming vegan overnight leading to a surplus of animals would never happen.

Vegans acknowledge the change has to be gradual which will naturally reduce the amount of animals bred into existence over time.

I had to look up Ross chickens as I didn't know about them, weird how they describe the chickens...The Ross 308, sounds like something from Robocop.

Fair point although I'm not sure how much say Cows for example are aware. Saying that though I had read or someone had told me that the mothers can pine after the young when they are taken away at such a young age, always thought that was awful...then try not to think about it.

They're very aware something is wrong when they're about to be killed, you can see footage of some of them trying desperately to escape the "knock box" why would you think cows are not "aware"?

Outside of some global catastrophe that removes animals from the planet, a large percentage (if not majority) of the planet won't convert to a strict vegan diet.
Reducing animal consumption, which is on the downfall within the UK any way, needs to be the realistic goal going forward unfortunately.

Shock tactics can make people switch off, or, you get an entirely negative reaction because they don't like having it forced on them.
I would argue it's not too dissimilar to what Just Stop Oil is doing which is resulting in largely peeing the public off without actually achieving anything of real worth.

I'm not too clued up on other animals.. Not sure we can really know thier sentience.

I mean I think octopus farming is absolute barbarism due to thier intelligence.

I do know a chunk about chickens. Chickens are actually quite intelligent as birds go. Obviously not corvid level. But they recognise and remember faces, have strong personalities. I believe they can even count.
They are social animals too with a hierarchy, which often goes alongside higher level thinking.

My hens are completely different in personality. Claudia will always come and say hello. She'll settle on my lap if I'm out in the garden. Mirana, she won't ever come see me, unless I have seeds. They go absolutely crazy for seeds. It looks almost identical to thier food. But they know by sight and which bucket I go to if they are getting seeds or feed.

This might be amphropomorphism. But I've left thier run door shut with them out in the garden, and Claudia will come tap on the window with her beak. I wondered why the first time.. Until I saw she couldn't get in her house. She does it every time now.
I can see how someone can get attached to them, I'm not sure how I would feel if I actually had animals. I'm probably like most in feeling detached from it when picking something up in the supermarket.

Id find it hard to not eat chicken tbh, it makes up a big proportion of what we eat.

Yeah it was a bit of an extreme example. It would still be depressing not to have them dotted around the landscape.

I think Just Stop Oil is worse as it's directly impacting a persons day to day life. Some people either feel like they can't or genuinely can't be stuck waiting for the traffic to clear whilst people glue themselves to the road.

Yes of course, and if I lived somewhere where I couldn't thrive on a vegan diet then I would have to make my peace eating animals. But I don't, I live in Bristol and in my experience not eating meat has been as easy as continuing to eat meat.

I have no idea whether they are aware hence me saying I'm not sure. How do they feel when out in the fields, are they enjoying life?

Long time ago I used to eat it quite a lot too. But it was one of the first things I gave up. Def makes a difference when you have them as pets!

No idea, but they're sentient, thats what matters. They dont sound happy when we take away their babies so we can take their milk thats for sure.

These ones seem happy though https://moustache-farmer.de/en

I thought the same, I would have meat in pretty much every meal, 3 times a day. I used to think it wasn't a proper meal without it, yet here I am!

That's great but the planet won't become vegan regardless of accessibility as you will always have those, and it's a lot, on one end of the spectrum who are hardcore animal consumers and no amount of radical vegan shock tactics will change their minds other than for some catastrophic event to take place.
As said, the achievable goal should be nudging the public to reduce consumption (it won't be to nothing though) as that is realistically the best case scenario.
