I dont think so no, they're a companion, like part of the family. Hence why I don't agree with breeding dogs for profit.

Just look at the dog thread for other examples of the issues with breeding animals for us.

That being said its a bit of a grey area for me personally because at least dogs are not being bred to be exploited or stabbed for food (apart from dog fighting etc.)

Well they are contributing. Dogs are predators and need to be fed meat as do many other pets.

I feel like Johnny was born about 200 years too early. He has a utopian view of the world that isn’t compatible with the modern day

This is why I can't eat chicken....

Claudia is a special girl. She's 3 years free from ex commercial Layer this year. And loves attention. Soon as I get on my chair she's on my lap.
She knows it's Me as she won't come see my gf.
They are lovely creatures full of personality.

I don’t get it tbh. I had pet rabbits that i loved when I was younger. I still eat rabbit. I’m not eating my rabbits am I.

I’ve kept fish, I still eat fish.

Because when you see how intelligent the animals you eat are, and know the conditions they exist in, I just can't handle that at am emotional level.

Again, if they were killed after a decent life, cleanly, yes I could. But not in the conditions they live with intensive farming

But you eat all other animals?

But you eat all other animals?

I don't eat fish, I don't eat any bird, I don't eat eggs, really, I only eat beef, and it's rare. Becoming rarer.

If my gf was a good cook I'd happily go vegan.

I don't pretend to be perfect, nor belittle others for eating meat. But for me, personally, I don't eat the animals I have a connection to.

i won't be reading 23 pages of this thread ;) but it does make me chuckle that many vegans seem to think that nature isn't brutal. It's a daily struggle to not be ripped apart by a predator for most animals.

That said we treat animals terribly for the sake of cheap meat, often injected with antibiotics and all sorts. I fully support ethical treatment of all life but nature is a cruel beast and we've evolved to be omnivores.

I WOULD (on a tangent) support their message completely for trophy hunters, if you can bring down a lion/elephant/rhino with your bare hands, 1 on 1, that's the only time I support hanging a 'trophy' on your wall.

No vegan thinks that. It makes me chuckle that there are people that think they dont.

What he should be saying is that 1000s and 1000s of acres cut down to produce vegan food has killed many animals.
I've asked several vegans their thoughts on this and they say it's a small price to pay for the future :)
Animal killers.

around 75 to 80 percent of the soy that is produced is used as farmed animal feed and only 6 percent is actually used for human consumption. Therefore, if you are upset about animals being killed in soy farming, then stop funding the industries that use three-quarters of all the soy that is grown.
shamelessly copy and pasted but just one example

I've seen the way some animals are slaughtered and it is horrific. I am not just talking about some third world country, but the UK. Hammers and piglets.

If you know this fact and choose to continue eating meat that you haven't slaughtered yourself, then you are either OK with the way in which the animals are treated or you are in denial. I used to eat meat until I educated myself on the behaviour of people working in abattoirs when the officials weren't looking. Not eaten meat since.

It isn't hard to be a vegetarian these days. Loads of good food that is meat free. Most people are too lazy to give meat up though.

Edit: I wonder which part of my post some people found funny. I hope it wasn't the part about piglets having their heads caved in with hammers.

Can you at least use weapons you craft yourself. I.e. Enter the woods naked, not bringing anything from the modern world?
