Divinity: Original Sin 2

I'm still in Arx. I think the quest chain there is really well done actually, but the area is a bit of a waste, as there aren't really any good side quests there. One thing about one of the quests though -

finding Arhu is a little bit of a hassle tbh... I wandered around for hours thinking of what the little clues and everything meant before I worked it out. Didn't help that I had already cleared out Kemms vault. I like it, but some might find it a chore!

I'd love an expansion that added a new area that you access from Arx. Maybe a new city and a few more quests around Arx itself.

Also, the best characters in the game are easily the owls in Kemm's garden!

What sort of items are just vendor trash?

I've got so much stuff in my inventory but I don't know whether to to sell it in case I need it for a recipe or something later in the game.

I only really sell the obvious things such as silver plates, gold cups etc and lower level weapons/armour. I tend to keep all food, consumables and random items.

I'll look later to see if it's worth crafting available recipes and selling to clear the inventory, or top just sell the components.

Is this payable with a controller?
Just wondered if anyone does play with one and how they find it compared to a kb&m. I fancy something to play on the couch via the steam link..

Its controller compatible but I didn't like using a controller at all.

It is perfectly playable, and fairly intuitive. I would say you will able to get used to it fairly quickly. I play with a controller and haven't had any issues. The only things I would point out are the following-

1. Inventory management can be overbearing in this game, and it is much, much easier with kb/m
2. The UI looks a lot nicer when you use kb/m. It is completely different based on what you use. With kb/m it is quite elegant. With a controller it is simply functional. Also the dialogue box looks awful when using a controller... For some reason it covers the entire screen.

I've found a similar thing every time I play. I have a multitude of "tat" that always gets sold for extra $$$$, such as ornamental things, flowers, paintings etc. For some reason I always seem to keep hold of food, but I don't know why as I don't ever use it. Maybe I need to make more of an effort to!

Top tip for a few extra dollars when selling weapons: combine the weapon with a poison source to add a bit more value to it without costing you anything! :D

This game is so good, I am still on the first act and there is so much to do, I am just taking my time exploring, searching, doing stuff, I havnt had this much fun in an RPG since Dragon Age: Origins. The story is very good also, Im not really sure what builds I want out of my characters, so kind of building them as I see fit ad-hoc, so far I have myself as a two handed swordsman warrior tank, I have a thief/sneaky type build, a witch and and kind of mage/wizard - its so fun!

100% agree.....most new games I can play for a maximum of 2-3 hours before I get game fatigue.....I had a day off yesterday and played it solidly all day and at 11pm when I had to go to bed, I was gutted I couldn't continue playing it...such a well done game and doesn't hold your hand at all.

Finding new gear feels genuinely rewarding. Top class.

Thanks, think I'll have a clear out.

Like you, I've got hundreds of bits of food that I never bother consuming or crafting with!

I finished Act 1 on around 22 hours which felt about right. Really enjoying the game but not getting on well with the pyro skills - I seem to cause my party more damage than the enemy o.O

The story is great so far and some of the lines - particularly from Fane - are genuinely funny. The voice acting is excellent although Lohse's accent is slightly aggravating.

Bloody good game all in all.

I have really hit a wall on Act2. I am almost lvl14 and I just cannot find where to go without dying in an impossible fight. Problem continues in spoilers...

I have explored most areas that I can get too and I now have no where to go. I cannot go onto the island north due to death fog, I cannot win against the lone wolves, in the black pits everywhere I can go is guarded by shrikers...I have literally been running around everywhere looking for any fight I can win to get some XP to hopefully be strong enough to continue.

Until now I have had really good progression, had a few tough moments but party make up seems good enough to get through it all. Most of my party have over 1k health now and between 200-400 defense on physical and magic armours, yet most attacks kill me in 1-2hits so unsure how that is now happening. I have two wizards, one being fane, the red prince and beast. Wizards hit really hard with magic and the red prince is a tank. Beast sort of does what he can, magic or physical damage.

Really am open to ideas - but not spoilers if it can be helped as I am enjoying the story, but just got a little stuck.

Well finished the game clocking in 110 hours for a run, damm that was amazing. Everything from voice acting to side quests.

For those area's I did:

You can get to the island in the north without going through the Fog. All my party were alive so no option but too, but the way I did it was having one person with teleport and 3 Pyramids. Have two party member's chained with one Pyramid and leave them to the side. Then with your party member with teleport holding another pyramid and the forth member with third pyramid. The broken bridge strut's all have a very small space you can teleport your forth party member too. So do this, then with the Pyramid on the party member with teleport ability move them up, rinse and repeat to get to end of bridge then use the third pyramid to bring up your other member's. In hindsight the Huntsman Tactical Retreat ability may also have enough distance to allow you to just work with two pyramids, but not sure if that has enough range.

If you don't have a third pyramid or huntsman ability does not have enough range, once you get across there is a way shine on the island so just discover it then teleport everyone to it.

Another one that come's to mind but not sure if it would work. If you just take Fane across though the fog with a Pyramid and leave the rest of your party with the other pyramid then port them over once Fane reach the other side, but as I say I did not go that route as i did not have an undead member.

You can do similar tactic for shrikers there is space around the shrikers range in the pits to get around to the bits you need to, so use teleport / Tactical retreat then Pyramid to bypass them entirely.

Earlier on for the slightly harder battle's I found summon's can help to draw aggro if your dying quickly. A ranger build on someone also work's nice, so you have two member's focusing on physical and two on magic. The ranger could replace Beast's hybrid build and help wear down the physical armour so your red price can taunt them if he has enough health. But then again so many ways to play / setup's, all part of seeing what work's for you :)

Only really played around 3 hours of this. Think I might have a restart and go again as feel like the time I've played on it was just running round getting used to everything again, soo much to take in.

Reckon I could easily sink 100 hours into this.

It has an entirely separate UI for controller players, I've been playing it on the big screen in 4k this way, it's amazing.

You can even do local split screen coop with two controllers.

I restarted to choose some slightly different options after 5-6 hours and don't regret it at all.

Well I have progressed tonight. Now almost lvl15 and actually seem to be getting somewhere again.

I made some slight changes to my skills to allow for other things that are not fire based which has helped a lot.

Still really enjoying the game, although its got its difficult bits.

After enjoying and completing Baldurs Gate 2 as a kid I bought Divinity Original Sin and Pillars Of Eternity upon my return to PC gaming. Did not get far with them. I don't know how much sense it makes but these are games I want to play but when it comes to actually doing it I think I'm overwhelmed by the scale and choices. I fully understand the criticism of games being "dumbed down" point A to point B borefests but as I get older I'm finding that's all I can find the time for.

Annnnywaay... Despite the above I keep coming back to this thread...

IF I were to buy this game and actually play the darned thing... I'd fancy going Lone Wolf with a duo of self-made characters, not pre-sets. Question is... How much would Lone Wolf with out the pre-sets (with back stories) take away from the dialogue / characterisation / sidequests? I presume I'd be missing out on a fair chunk of the story aspect by not having extra companions with story interactions out with me on the road?

I have the exact same issues and the exact same games haha. I find myself just turning the xbox on to grind in destiny or wildlands for no other reason than total ease. Be interesting to see what peoples views are on lone wolf playthroughs and if it differs wildly from the standard game

I haven't played too far through the game, so I may not have all the information. Playing a non-preset character doesn't detract from the main story at all. The origin characters are designed to have a "background" and their own line of quests and interactions throughout the game, giving you a bit more content to explore. The origin characters do have a "preset" class when you find them, but by no means do you have to keep that class - you can customise them straight away. I wouldn't discount an origin character because they aren't the class you want by default.
