Divinity: Original Sin 2

I've got two co-op games going on this. One as a four-player where I'm playing as a support Cleric. Not much progress in that game as two of the players seem to have this urge of sprinting through the game as quick as they can - which usually results in them getting dragged into a fight whilst under-geared. The second game I'm playing a Wayfarer as a duo with one of the players from the four-player co-op. We've made much further progress, it was very challenging to start with, but now we're out of Fort Joy, the game is faceroll-easy. We're only level 6 I think, but going around downing entire packs of mobs in one turn is a little silly - we regret taking the Lone Wolf perk for definite, but felt we would need it due to the struggles we faced in the four-player session. When we get to Act 2 I think we'll drop that talent if it's possible? I know you can respec the skills, not sure if this applies to talents as well?

Loving the depth of the game though and the consequences of actions. A few times I've got a little annoyed as it hasn't progressed a quest line where it should have...

Gratiana (spelling?) is supposed to tell you what Purging Wands do I think? Our interaction with her didn't reveal anything, so we broke her soul jar...

It's also a very pretty game, which makes it much more immersive and is probably the only drawback I have from replaying Baldur's Gate 1 & 2.

This game just won't let up!... I've just left Reaper's Coast, and left tons and tons not done tbh. Reached the next area which is gorgeous. Still enjoying it immensely... Or even more so now I have more abilities(polymorph is awesome!). Also got a top hat and cape for my undead character so now I'm all set!

There is so much replayability in this. Probably more than any other game I've played.

Its quite astonishing value for money on the £ per hour scale, our co-op game is now on 70 hours played and we are still only in Act 2

This is top on my list of games to lose myself in over the Christmas hols (which sadly will be my next opportunity to get some gaming in!)
Can't wait - looks like a fantastic game!

This game is pretty great. Me and my best mate are playing two player coop, both lone wolves so it's just the two of us.
At first we were meticulous, investigating everything to get a lead on whatever quest we were on - but we found it so much more enjoyable to just kill whoever we suspect is part of the quest we're on, just to get a move on. He's an (undead) elf so a lot of the time he just eats the npc's body and the corpse's lingering memories helps advance the quest. It's a neat tidbit.

We're both undead so I went poison-based, flinging that stuff everywhere really helps keep us topped off - until somebody throws a fireball at us, that is!

"Adds 2 max & Recovery AP, 30% extra Vitality, Physical and magical armor, and Doubles invested points in combat abilities and attribute points(except polymorph), while you are adventuring solo or with at most one companion.

Effects are Negated if traveling with more than two members in the current party."

What exactly is the lone wolf perk then? Do you not get the choice to have companions?
Lone Wolf gives you huge bonuses to skills and attributes. The ability remains active so long as there are no more than two members in your party. If a third joins, the bonuses that Lone Wolf grants you are removed.

Argh nice. Looks like a pretty big buff then. When you're saying members in my party, this includes companions or actual friends/ players.

As someone who's going solo, i guess its a must have?

I see most people play this coop, can you play as a single player too ? I work really crazy patterns so can never really commit to a regular gaming time slot, plus none of my usual circle of gaming mates play this game anyway so I wouldn't have anyway of starting a coop unless I tried to PUG it ?

I've been playing the game in single-player, you don't have to have someone else to play the game with you.
I guess it's nice nice to play co-op so you can have someone to talk to while you play.

Played for a bit, I have no feel on how to play it. So it's solo, 'exploration mode' for the moment. I'd recommend you do that for a while before going into co-op, it's quite... 'technical', and would probably get frustrating playing with seasoned veterans, for everyone.

The game makes no difference between AI or players. So a total party size of two will allow Lone Wolf to function - you can even have it on both characters too.

It's like any other game of the genre, so you can play solo to your heart's content. That doesn't mean you only have one character either - you'll have the character you create and you can then add companions to your party and you'll control their every move. What's refreshing with this is being able to do co-op and for it to work relatively flawlessly.

If you're not used to the game or genre, it's probably worth doing a play through on the easiest setting. This will allow you to focus more on the story and gameplay basics. If you feel things are going too easy, up the difficulty and see how you go. I'd also argue that this game is actually much easier if you only have two members in your party, yourself included, both with the Lone Wolf talent. It adds so much to your character and gives you a real edge - in the late game this edge scales a little ridiculously which will result in very overpowered characters.

I'd say there's a couple of main ways to try and play it too. Die hard DnD fans that love winning will try and min/max their characters. This will result in having very powerful characters that excel at certain things but are weak in all other areas. The general idea here is to be powerful enough to wipe out enemies before they even get a shot at combat. The way some skills are currently implemented lends to this as well as the scaling for certain skill trees is off and quite imbalanced.

The way I prefer to play it is a more relaxed outlook where you develop and mould your character to how you want it. Spend points in the different spell schools, try your hand at different weapon setups etc - play it so you enjoy it. Whilst being able to one-hit enemies is quite rewarding at first, it soon becomes tedious, boring and repetitive and your view on battles changes so that you view them only as a hindrance to progress, whereas I think they should be a challenge as you get a greater sense of accomplishment. Especially with how much depth has been engineered into the game so that you have the option of skirting around combat situations by using skills, spells, sneakery or just outright ****talking - it's fantastic!

Just take your time with it, play at your own pace, explore as much or as little as you want to and immerse yourself in it.

Ok, so I bought the game now after looking at a few you tube vids, it looks amazing. I had a look at the forums to try and read up on character builds etc and now I don't have a clue. What would be an easy build to start with to just get used to mechanics, gameplay, exploring etc ?

I can recommend a conjurer. The summon of another controllable character that's also ranged plus multiple totems seems to make them quite strong. Rogue also seems strong with good mobility.

Dont worry too much about it, just play and enjoy. Pick something that sounds fun. After Act 1 you can respec at will and sort out any skills/stats you took incorrectly. There are a few starting skills/racial skills you cant change but they dont really make a huge difference.

This is the most important thing to remember. You'll have 4 members in your party that you can customise so you'll get to experiment with all the skills anyway.

Edit- but do try and give one person pet pal and one loremaster
