Doctor Who

Meh again really, could have done more with the exploration of the Tardis, hated the brothers, weren't even necessary in the episode.

Oh and look again, he's back to referring to the Tardis as a female.

Going to be honest, getting tired of Matt Smith, maybe not his fault, but this whole generation of the Doctor is becoming tedious and his somewhat potato like features are the face of that.

yea I liked the darker episodes of the first series some of those would give kids nightmares like the ww2 gasmask one.

once tenant came it started to get a bit child/comedy like but a lot of episodes were still good
I'm not a big fan of any of the matt smith episodes so far or the companions since rose

the darleks went from being uber scary to a bunch of teletubbies.....

Angels = good
Silence = good
None of the new baddies have gripped me at all.
New assistant looks wise = very very....very good.
New assistant personality wise = meh.

Rory is king. All hail Rory for how an assistant should be.

Just Meh..

Matt Smith is just being wasted. Christopher Eccleston, did a great job of painting the Dr as a far darker character with hints of what he may have done in the past, being quite nasty. The episodes were much better paced with lots going on but you could see the reason for it or where it was heading, it actually felt much more grown up and having some of the plots run over two episodes made it far less rushed. David Tennat, built on that, and the whole Billie Piper "Bad Wolf" thread was great and bought the show on, fleshing out the human, emotional side of the characters.

But since Matt Smith has filled the roll Meh.. I'm not sure if it's down to the writers being lazy or trying to be too clever but every episode is just filled with hectic nonsense that has little to do with the plot. There's just too much talking and not enough story telling. The stories are weak and rushed. It's a great shame as the CGI is a boat ride away from blokes walking round in bubble wrap, but they actually did a better job of scaring people, and what a shame the "TARDIS" the most complex and powerful machine in the universe being reduced to a few corridors and dangling pipes. JLC is certainly easy on the eye but it's all window dressing on poor stories/ideas at the moment. It's almost pantomime.. it's behind you!!

Has it coincided with the deal for it to be broadcast in America? Cant remember the full facts but isnt that the reason it is now split in half as well?

Agreed, its been hard to watch it since Matt Smith was introduced, see the odd episode but it was much better with Tennant in it.

Cant help but think the same - dumbed down for the Americans...
I guess he was writing to RTD's style of doctor who now he writing to his own style of Who
I honestly think that when he wasnt lead they could be far choosy what episodes he had written were used so only the really good stuff filtered through. As lead I just dont think he has the leadership or the breadth of talent to cope and so necessarily less choosy what becomes an episode...

ps3ud0 :cool:

I don't know if its rose-tinted glasses with people but even during Christopher Eccleston's and David Tennant's tenures as The Doctor there was just about the same 60%-75% worth of cringe-tastic television. Matt Smith's stories are filling that quotient quite nicely.

In truth, most of us are probably outside the "target audience" anyway. I could be wrong but suspect it's aimed at younger viewers. It's a pity there are not two versions one for adults and one for tinky winkies. I could think up a few plot lines where JLC had a few more close encounters of the third kind.. LOL..

Just looking through the the older series episodes to refresh, maybe 30% of a season could be constituted as cringe-tastic. However where the difference lies, is that in them cringe episodes were some brilliant moments of character development and story arc connections.

Doctor who lacks that, i'm struggling to think of 1 genuine wow moment this season so far. It's just crap.

can't wait for this season to be over and for Smith to go, a new reincarnation often brings a change of tone, clearly moffat wanted to make this a bouncier generation to play to Matt Smith's youthfulness.

Remember looking back at this and thinking, yes, this looks like a younger version of Ecclestone's Doctor, how disappointing.

Those are my thoughts. I was really sad to see Eccelston go so quickly, though I did enjoy what David Tennant bought to the roll. Matt Smith seems to play a parody of the Dr rather than adding to the character. I think the trick is even though it's a fanciful character it need to be played dead-pan for it to work and draw you in. Matt Smith just plays at it, there's no serious edge to the character. It's either dashing round in circles for no good reason, spouting techno-babble or just hamming up the roll.

Just spotted this thread and I can only agree with your comments, DampDog and others here too.

Me and the missus said right after the last episode that we both missed Eccelston and Tennant and the stories at the time. Since then it's looked more and more like this programme has been included in the BBC's cost cuts.

Thinking back a little way here, Eccleston reminded me of Pertwee to a degree in that both commanded your attention and you took what they said as gospel. Now I find myself saying, "get off you clown" to Matt Smith and thinking I've seen this Doctor before in Silvester McCoy :(

Eccelston was my all time favourite in this 'new' Dr.Who show revamp. I never paid attention to the show prior to the revamp so Chris was the 'first' doctor to me and my favourite. He was dark, yet had a funny side to him. I was very saddened to see him go. I had my doubts about Tennant and grew to like him very fast I admit. I felt Catherine Tate being his sidekick later on was a mistake though.

I have never liked Matt Smith but he did have some good episodes like Vincent and the Doctor. Sadly he prances and dances about far too often and that sonic screwdriver seems to popup everywhere and fixes everything now. Definately agree with the budget cuts comments above.

I don;t understand budget cuts for drwho if it's true the show gets exported all over , must sell loads of dvd's and they must get a crapton of royalties from merchandise....

maybe they use all the profits to fund crap shows like dancing on ice though
