Doctor Who

I don't think 45mins is enough time to set a location, the theme, develop any new characters, play the story, resolve it and still give time to "who/what is Clara?!"

The last couple of seasons haven't been as good as S5 was, which is a shame.
 
it was alright.. it was obvious.. it was cheesier than Stilton..Matt smith is good, it was a good episode for him, he is entertaining,

i enjoy the random history of the future but it has been done to death now.

rubbish but the best episode in this series...

i wonder if it will wrap up this season, or be put on ice for another proper kid spin off? surely the money is in the merchandising now? Daleks soon i guess :/ milk the xmas toy market
 
The episode wasn't terrible, kids were drones for most of it, the cybermen were fine, a decent idea just implemented terribly. The soldiers were atrocious, I fail to see the point in introducing military if they are always so terrible, even a punishment squad.

Clara is bossy, that's about all. There is something properly dirty in the way she smiles. She'd be great in porn. The storylines and dialogue let them down, in almost every episode this series. Looks good in idea fails in implementation.

I’ve been saying that for weeks now, some of the best new who have been 2 parters, I think it might have something to do with splitting up the series.



As for the new episode good but not great, this kind of sums up the series, so far we haven’t reach the lows of series 6 but we haven’t reach the highs of it either. :(

Complete ****.

This series has no story, no development, it's the weekly pile of ****. It's the exact opposite of what Davies managed to create. We don't know anymore about Clara than we did to begin with, it's not provided a single hint, as someone said, all we get is Matt Smith's stupid face claiming, who are you, after 45 minutes of the god damn wacky warehouse.

I'm getting at my wits end, some on here keep saying why do we put ourselves through it, well because we love the idea, and we've loved previous iterations, but this one is just terrible, I don't flip flop in and out of tv shows, I watch them, when it's good and bad, respectively praising and damning when it's right.

I miss the last doctor, he was a being who'd lived so many tragic events he was on the verge of saying **** the cruel universe, I'm taking over, and I'm going to bring some order through wrath, because I am a God. Then the companion would play her part and ground him.

Instead I have to watch this guy reenact swan lake every week:

After watching prequel for the next episode I kind of get where they are going with it, Clara is kind of like the Doctor in the sense that he doesn’t know what and who Clara is and she doesn’t know anything about what and who the doctor is, all for the big reveal on trenzalore next week, but they have done a terrible job of communicating this and building up for it.
 
This weeks episode was just screaming out to be a two-parter. The pace was so frantic it left me confused in the early stages, god knows how children found it. There just isn't enough time for sufficient plot and character development in 45mins.
 
This was an utterly terrible episode as far as I'm concerned. It lost me at minute one where you see two kids step out of the TARDIS onto the Moon. Apparently they aren't even remotely phased / tentative about being transported through space and time for the first time and treat it all as a joke. Cheap, limited need for acting. Pathetic. No sense of emotion.

The episode lacked any sense of peril, which has been the standard throughout most Matt Smith episodes. Like many are saying, it needs to be far darker and more adult. We need to see actual jeopardy for both the Doctor and Clara and a sense of them managing to defeat an enemy against all odds. Cliffhangers etc etc. Some of this is possibly down to Matt Smith's portrayal of the Doctor and not the fault of the writers. He just never seems nervous / apprehensive / angry / frustated etc.

I liked seeing the Cybermen upgrading to slightly more bad ass status with warping ability etc though. In the really old episodes, like Patrick Throughton era, there was a sort of primal, unnatural sense about the Cybermen and they were pretty scary. There was a little bit of that sense of terror they invoke in this episode but only among the military characters.

I don't really want to get started on the military characters! It is absolutely cringe worthy how this show portrays military, off world, types. They are never believable. Just a bunch of cameo C-listers prancing about usually.

Hate to say it as it's a British / BBC staple, but I do wonder how different (and better) Doctor Who would be in the hands of HBO now. It'll never happen but I just wonder.
 
Dr Who is one of those shows that could be SO SO good if done right, and every now and then you get hints of just how good it could be (The Empty Child, Rise of the Cybermen/Age of Steel, Don't Blink, Girl in the Fireplace, The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit, Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead).

The darker, scarier episodes are unquestionably always better.
 
I barely even watched Saturday night's episode. More and more i find myself looking forward to it as usual but 10 minutes in stop paying attention and potter around half listening.

Hopefully the finale can help redeem the season a little.

One thing we could say for sure in an HBO version of Doctor Who is that the assistants would be wearing much less clothing for parts of the episodes, LOL :eek: :D
