Doctor Who

Enjoyed that episode, shame it took all season for some decent writing.

My take. He's the first Doctor, known by his original name, kept secret by all incarnations to date, as they took the mantle of The Doctor, to make reparations for whatever his original incarnation had done. Maybe he caused the time war and the destruction of the time lords. And since then he's been trying to make up for this.

Either way, very intriguing, and for the first time in a long long while, since Moffat's first season in charge, I've got questions and thoughts ticking.

Well wasn't that just the worst season of "New Who" :(
Absolutely dire, in a CBBC friendly touchy feely love saves the day neon lit pile of ****

..... with a rather cracking ending :)

Thoroughly enjoyed that, but that just made season 7 seem even worse than it actually was, knowing how good it could have been.

Ho hum.... time to get my hopes up for the special and Season 8

Back in the day when the Doctor's Companion gave their life heroically to save the Doc they would stay dead. It is highly infantile that their can be no hard endings.

Edit, otherwise a good episode by this seasons standards.

Was just mooching throught he Wikipedia entry from the earlier post here and noticed this..

Throughout the programme's long history, there have been revelations about the Doctor that have raised additional questions. In The Brain of Morbius (1976), it was hinted that the First Doctor may not have been the first incarnation (although the other faces depicted may have been incarnations of the Time Lord Morbius). In subsequent stories the First Doctor was depicted as the earliest incarnation of the Doctor.

"Earliest incarnation of the Doctor" could be the get out of jail card they use when the current doctor suggested John Hurt was him, but not "the doctor". It would also explain why he keeps his name secret, being the true name of his first incarnation which has been supressed ever since for not acting as his later incarnations would.

But if that were the case, why did it have the big massive caption saying "Introducing John Hurt as The Doctor" or whatever?
ooooh... good point...

Although not entirely sure why they felt the need to drop an extra title into the episode in the first place to be honest other than to pimp John Hurts name I suppose :)

Awful season saved by the last few minutes.

My theory....john hurt is some version of the doctor which actually leads to him flying through time as the master. Which is why the rest of the doctors dont mention him

I like this theory. Would also explain why William Hartnell would choose to steal a Tardis and escape Gallifrey.

Just looked him up, he was the 2nd rate actor where the Alien came out of his belly in Alien.
Has he done anything since?

;)

John Vincent Hurt, CBE (born 22 January 1940) is a British actor. Among other honours, he has received two Academy Award nominations, a Golden Globe Award, and four BAFTA Awards, with the fourth being a Lifetime Achievement recognition.[1]

I'd say he has, yep.
