Doctor Who

You seriously think that he's only just dropped this on the BBC? They'll have known about it for months.
OK, they haven't got long left! :p

They'll probably announce the new Doctor just days before the Christmas show. I recall that Matt Smith wasn't announced until just a few days before Tennant's Doctor regenerated on TV. Or am I mis-remembering events?

BBC need to ditch Moffat and bring in someone new. He's a fantastic writer but an awful head writer and producer and he's ultimately to blame for the mess over the last few series.
Agreed. He's fantastic with Sherlock but somehow he's not a good head writer for Doctor Who. I thought he did some fantastic stuff for Doctor Who when Russell T Davies was head writer. Perhaps being responsible for Sherlock AND Doctor Who is just too much. With Doctor Who he has to write new stuff, with Sherlock, it's already written and needs adapting for modern day Britain.

Wish we had american releases in the UK instead of 6 episodes per season like we currently do i.e a series over there typically can run 24 episodes a year for example. Ahh imagine red dwarf or dr who for 24 eps per year instead of the poxy 6 per year or so.

Btw if they ever did make a amercian copy of dr who (god forbid of course..) You reckon jude law would make a decent one? Or heck he would do in the uk version too since hes english i just thought since hes popular in america it seems he would suit a dr who role if they made one there.

I seem to remember quite a long time of Matt Smith being known as the new Who before he appeared. I mean like MONTHS !

Still, sad to see him go. I'll always remember him as a good one, but tainted by the CBBC pandering cluster **** that was season 7.

I also hope they go older too. Like late 30's as a minimum.

You're right. Smith was announced on 3rd January 2009. He appeared in the regeneration on January 1st 2010! More than a few days eh!

I've been pleasantly surprised by Matt Smith though. I felt he was too young when he was cast, and, along with Amy as his companion, thought we'd be watching something like Hollyoaks in Space.

Dire!

Fortunately, Matt has always managed to act beyond that though from time to time has shown he hasn't the experience of Tennant or Ecclestone in conveying serious darkness for instance

Huge Laurie, would be a superb choice but I doubt the BBC would even get close to the fee he is now able to command following the success of 'House' I think he made something like £250K and episode.

He said in an interview only the other day that he doubts he'd have the energy to do another long running series. He wouldn't be an awful choice though. This will stem interesting debate about John Hurt though.

Sky has some hilarious ones:
