Doctor Who

best episode so far (missed previous one) capitalism/multi-national 'theme', despite being reverential to Alien, was clever.
Doctor in familiar Hercules Poirot (Keyser Söze) explanatory role.

Episode succeeded despite companion, who effectively replaced the inamimate, broken sonic screwdriver, after that broke.

Bill : I think I am alive
Doctor : yep you do seem to be under that impression

(as said) script still parodying the street language of today (well at least the stereotype of it portrayed in soaps - if teenagers still speak like that the jokes on them, if not, on me)

Bill still thinks she suffers racism, and does not realise it is the natural reaction to her low IQ comments

EDIT: thought the suits, with their terminated humans, would have been scary/unsuitable for pre-teens

Part way through, Mrs. Feek and I turned to each other with the same comment, along the lines of "this is for kids?"

Some good scary moments there, I thought it was a decent episode.

in this (post?) politically correct environment should the BBC be exposing a less intelligent black female character (role model) to family viewing ?

Why not? Less intelligent black characters exist, just like in any race and as such can exist in film and TV as much as in real life, no?

Beside I like Bill overall as she does not seem up herself (like Rose) and she certainly is not stupid. More average, which is surely better as a role model for the average. Other attributes are just as good.

I liked the last episode, they do seem to be better this year, ironic as Moffat and Capraldi are both leaving soon. I also wonder whether this doctor will get his sight back or if this is the Trigger of his regeneration?

Also, Doctor Who was originally aimed at teenagers, not kids. It's still a family show as well, not a kid's show, often a misconception.

another good episode (Extremis) seems as though doctor has been illicitly feeding Ritulin to the companion, as she made some more intelligent remarks,
but maybe the characacter changes depending on episode writer (this was Moffat, although Oxygen was good too) -
... is doctor who unusual, changing writers ? (they should have guest writers eg Stephen King)

I guess Moffat is a fan of the Da Vinci code(did that not have a tie in with Cern too) , but it did not ridicule the catholic church as much as he might of,
just some comment from Bill as the pope arrived during her date.
(edit:maybe there was a farce aspect - Monty Python'esque - nobody expects the spanish inquisition)

The doctor did not seem to acknowledge these aliens, but I though they had been seen before ?
So I am wondering if the plot, which is leading the Doctor to request the (now revelaed to be in the safe) masters' help to fight the aliens earth invasion,
is all a ploy by the master ?

Follow-up episode....

Not even remotely sure why they cast the female scientist as they did. The whole alien ship visual reminded me of arrival for some reason. Pretty dumb overall, nonsense levels registering high. Shame.....

welll Mr Moffat cannot have original ideas all of the time ..
but come to think of it simulating the history of planet earth to assure a successful invasion was perhaps a bit Douglas Adams'ish.
- In the same manner that song writers can claim plagiarism (Sam Smith lol), can film writers ?

Perhaps the monks/aliens had taken inspiration from fifth element (that was a pyramid no?) or they just aspired to the dictatorial aspects of the Egyptians.

The companions rsising IQ level continues to impress me, she is going to be up there with Marvin soon.

I was serious- her remarks were more incisive (but a stopped watch is right once a day) and she exhibited less frivolous behaviour
but maybe my intelligence has declined as a result of watching it.

(suprising that the analysis into dementia triggers, that told people to keep exercising, did not also reveal that
watching they've got talent and X-factor are contributory)

Did anyone else catch the finger Matt Lucas threw out to the guards?

Can't help but get the feeling Missy isn't actually changing and it's just a ploy for when she finally gets released.

I'm thinking it's more that she is genuinely a bit remorseful when trapped alone with her thoughts like in the vault (and only a bit) but when whatever circumstances lead to her teaming up with the Simms incarnation come about she'll jump at the chance, revert right back to her old self but have the moment of conscience right at the end that leads to her death and a new master for the next Doctor.

It's cheesy, it's pretty terrible, but sadly I think that's the way it'll play out.

Don't wanna upset you, but that was a point, not a flip of the bird :D
