Doctor Who

Millie Gibson replaced after 1 season

Not checking enough boxes. Her replacement is though, I wonder if she's also going to be alphabet and big on pro-nouns by any chance...

Can't quite put my finger on it, but there was something about Millie that I really liked.

I'm in the middle of rewatching the New Who series on iPlayer and I'm definitely not enjoying most of Matt Smith's tenure. Just finished the 50th anniversary episode and it was great to see David Tennant back as the Doctor.

The next episode is the Time of the Doctor, Smith's last one before we go into Peter Capaldi. I do remember it being a lot of dross from then one, but maybe a second viewing will change my mind.

Prepare to be underwhelmed/dissapointed.

Why are people on this thread using the term "DEI"? I had to look up what it meant, and it's a US-English term meaning Diversity, equity, and inclusion

Wikipedia said:
Some frameworks, primarily in Britain, substitute the notion of "equity" with equality: equality, diversity, inclusion (EDI).

I know, totally missing the point of this thread but it confused me for a while.

All I can remember of Capaldi is him playing guitar with sunglasses on while in the Tardis. Ugh...

That was the highpoint of his tenure, I’m afraid.

I'm not going to claim that the writing was great for every episode and he did take a little while to grow on me, but I thought that overall Capaldi did a solid job in his portrayal of the Doctor and was able to bring the necessary gravitas when required. Certainly better than what followed...

Isn't it strange how opinions vary. I posted this about Matt Smith a few years ago.

I've just gone back and watched the entire first Matt Smith series over the space of a few days. It's like chalk and cheese compared to this latest series. The chemistry between him, Amy and Rory is so well written. By the end of that first episode, he IS The Doctor.

I was never a great Matt Smith fan but having re-watched his first series, my opinion has changed. I think he did a really good job and apart from one or two slightly dodgy episodes, I think his first series was excellent. I'd go as far as saying that perhaps it's the best of NuWho.

Moffat was a welcome change from RTD and the story arc over the entire series worked well.

The only really bad thing about that series was the abortion they made of the opening music and theme.

well i just got round to watching the xmas special, Ive been putting it off thinking it would be a load of cringe but was pleasently suprised. Definitly a bit of fluff as per usual seasonal episodes but i like the new guy and gal. Hopefully a bit more sci fi and less vaudeville for the main series but he's not half as bad a previously expecting.

Yes, the first episode for a new doctor and the Christmas specials can tend towards self indulgence and silliness, but I thought the performance of the new guy showed promise and she seemed fine as a companion. Hopefully the writing will deliver decent storylines for the next series and stop (and ideally row back on) all the retconning.

I am not an expert on these things, so I don't really follow them much, but I believe she has left already.
