Doctor Who

Stephen Mangan tweeted this a few hours before the announcement that Matt Smith was leaving.

And since then he's posted quite a few comments saying he's NOT the new Doctor Who.

So was he bluffing or is it a double bluff or was it just a coincidence that he tweeted that?

That was a whole hour to explain something which took about twenty seconds in the end, the regeneration reset thing. It was an average entertaining episode but somewhat overcomplicated. At least I didn't fall asleep during it which I've done during previous Doctor Who christmas episodes.

I really didn't like how little time was given to Peter Capaldi's Doctor before the end of the episode.
That's normal when there's a regeneration, you get a few seconds of the new Doctor and then have to wait for the next series.

I don't like the way that the whole regeneration thing has become such a major event with the Doctor pontificating on about things and getting all teary-eyed in the lead up to the change. In old Who, something happened that would effectively kill him, he'd collapse and change. Now it's too showy, too in-yer-face, too emotional.

You should try watching Blink, Imposible Planet, the Library, Madame De Pompadour... I'm almost envious that you have yet to experience those episodes.
Blink is my favourite episode of all the new ones, closely followed by The Girl in the Fireplace (the Madame de Pompadour one).

I chuckled at the "are you my mummy?" line :)

I think it's a shame Capaldi is going, I didn't know him before Doctor Who and my impression is that he's actually really good but been let down by bad writing.

Sadly the last few years have tried to make Doctor Who all cerebral, clever and complicated when what it really needs is the Doctor turning up, saving everyone and then buggering off to his next adventure. No series arc, no complicated stuff.

I want to sit down for an hour, watch an episode and not have to think too hard about it.

I'm glad Moffat is going but I wish Capaldi had stayed on and got some decent storylines. Having said that, I still think that Blink is one of the best episodes of NuWho and that was written by Moffat so he can produce good stuff.

Part way through, Mrs. Feek and I turned to each other with the same comment, along the lines of "this is for kids?"

Some good scary moments there, I thought it was a decent episode.

I thought this was on tonight but it appears it's tomorrow (Sunday). Odd.

I very much disagree with the Doctor being a girl but I'll give it a try because I've been a fan since I can remember. This just feels so wrong.

I've just watched the end credits for the first time. They've almost unscrewed the mess it had become in previous series. The music was much better than it's been for a while as well, except the overly loud drumming. Is that a snare drum?

The snare seems to have been toned down a bit since last week and was it my imagination or has the TARDIS shape changed a bit as well? It looks more slender and back to how it used to be. Is this the BBC concentrating on making things look and sound more traditional to distract from the enforced diversity?

This is not a specific criticism of the current series of Doctor Who but of one particular item.

The bloody Sonic Screwdriver.

From what I remember, it was scrapped from the original series because it had become a get-out-of-jail-free card and I really feel it's become that again. It's crazily over used now and I just wish it could be thrown away and forgotten about.
