Doctor Who

I was almost excited in last weeks episode at the thought that the ‘sonic’ might be dead.

Sadly not. And she still wields it like a magic wand in Harry Potter. Terrible, dreadful. I don’t know if it’s her take or down to the director but it’s awful.

No, it’s not called a Sonic Screwdriver any more. It’s just a ‘sonic’ which seems to be able to do even more now than it ever could, even though it was knocked up out of Earth junk in a very short time

I know previous Doctors have done it but the endless name dropping of famous people is grating as well because it’s being overdone.

As the ducking stool went down, I said to Mrs. Feek that it would come up empty and that there would be a reference to Houdini.

*sigh*

Tosh. Chibnall can't write to save his life and no matter how good or otherwise the actors are (let's be totally honest, none of them are particularly good), they can't make a rubbish story come across well.

It's as though he doesn't care about the previous fifty five years of Doctor Who at all. I wish someone could just come along, consign these last eleven episodes to a rubbish bin, declare them non canon, fire the whole damn lot and start again with a new regeneration from Capaldi.

I've just gone back and watched the entire first Matt Smith series over the space of a few days. It's like chalk and cheese compared to this latest series. The chemistry between him, Amy and Rory is so well written. By the end of that first episode, he IS The Doctor.

I was never a great Matt Smith fan but having re-watched his first series, my opinion has changed. I think he did a really good job and apart from one or two slightly dodgy episodes, I think his first series was excellent. I'd go as far as saying that perhaps it's the best of NuWho.

Moffat was a welcome change from RTD and the story arc over the entire series worked well.

The only really bad thing about that series was the abortion they made of the opening music and theme.

Compare this to the latest series and I just wonder what's been going on at the BBC. Chibnall and Whittaker should watch the first Matt Smith series and compare their efforts with that. Perhaps it'll give them an idea where they've gone so badly wrong.

Or perhaps they're still kidding themselves that they did a good job

I have zero interest in watching this any more. I didn't record it, I won't watch it. I gave them the benefit of the doubt last series and based on that, until Chibnall and Whittaker leave, I won't be watching this show. Such a shame, it's been a huge chunk of my life since my childhood but they've ruined it in a few short hours.

As thread starter (or "OP" as it appears to be called now), I gave the Chibnall/Whittaker combination a year. They totally failed to deliver a single decent episode last series so I decided not to even bother with the new one. The New Year special was on in our house but I fell asleep in front of it so I have no idea what happened.

My son is a big fan as well and he managed to watch the first couple of episodes this year and then said that he's had enough.

I heard a spoiler a couple of days ago about the latest episode so caught up with the appropriate part.

Jo Martin immediately came across as a stronger actor than Jodie Whittaker. The scene where they met was actually quite enjoyable but they totally ruined the end of the episode with all that companion 'family' garbage.

Both my lad and I were stunned about what's happened here and not in a good way. This is taking nearly sixty years of history and throwing it in our faces. It's utter rubbish.

The best thing that could happen to Doctor Who now is for Chibs and Whittaker to be replaced and whoever takes over has a new Doctor waking up from sleep and declaring the current phase to be a dream. I believe that I've said this before in this thread.

I've also said that a big part of the issue is that they've both seem to think they're actually doing a good job but admitting they don't read reviews. Perhaps they should. Perhaps the BBC should actually pay attention to the mess they've made of this show.

Today I went back and I watched The Name of the Doctor, The Night of the Doctor, The Last Day and then The Day of the Doctor, one after another.

If you want to introduce a new (old) Doctor, The Day of the Doctor was the way to do it. It worked, it fitted and it was an absolute superb episode.

Compare that to the crap they're churning out now.

No comparison.

As someone who has made my views very well known and has only watched one scene of the latest series, is it worth catching up with the last two episodes?

They are probably the best episodes of the season, and I enjoyed them. With regards to the "lore" I think it's been integrated as well as it could be, although still not sure how I feel about it.

I managed about twenty minutes of the first one (the penultimate of the series) and switched off. It's still utter garbage.
