That performance tonight m thats what we need week in week out to be top 4 material. Hopefully we can build some form but the players have to realise that is yhe expected amount and the abject performances we have had won't cut it.

Olympiakos weren't very good tonight but they still had chances to win the tie over the two legs.

All tonight says to me is how much United underperformed in the first leg (and most of the season for that matter).

Performance? There were only two players playing. RvP and De Gea.

RvP hasn't been performing all season and that's why they've been so bad.

Two players won't get you past Real, Chelsea or Barca, and Bayern would seriously tear you a new one.

Well done Moysie, a famous win against the perennial whipping boys of the CL, now we just need a point of even all 3 against Man City and he is guarenteed to stay for 4 more years!

Brilliant stuff.

There's a difference between staying positive and creating unrealistic expectations.

Nah, I think that he is just trying to be positive. No one in their right mind would look at the last 8 and say that we have a chance. That has to be one of the strongest last 8's I have ever seen in the CL.

The performance was quite good last night at times but once we were 3 - 0 up we just went straight back to our "lets put everyone behind the ball" routine which doesn't work unless you have a good work ethos which we never seem to in defence of a lead.

When we pressed them they were shakey and we dominated them. That is the one characteristic of every top team in the world right now. They press the opposition high up the pitch and restrict the time the opposition have on the ball.

Whether we will see any more league performances like that is another matter as we can't do anything in the league bar saving a bit of face really.

Taking it you thought Rooney was the best? Giggs was quite good too although tried to force certain things giving the ball away easily which could've been punished.

Still I'd give it to De Gea, a couple of huge clutch moments and he couldn't afford to not be world class once.

Did 6 more people vote for more time after that win :D?

I actually wouldnt mind Utd dropping a place in the EPL to definitely avoid the Europa League (dont Man City get a Europa league spot from their CC victory which will pass to 7th spot in the EPL)

While a Europa League win gets the team a spot in the CL the next season, the additional travelling and larger /multiple group stages are too much of a hard slog, even before considering the hastle of Thurs / Sun matches and imo this really makes the EPL a lot more difficult for those teams in the Europa.

Did you watch it?

Yes.

I watched Welbeck get subbed off when there was nothing he'd done for the whole of the time he was on. I watched Valencia stay on because there was no-one to replace him with bar Young who was worse than a one-eyed Valencia. I watched Fellaini be the third best player for them when he came on. I watched Giggs run in treacle and still be the third best performer before Fellaini's introduction, and Rooney headless chicken around the pitch along with Rafael - who just doesn't have the temperament for a top side and will get found out more often than not. I watched Carrick get dominated, and Rio be the best defender on the night whilst barely able to run.

Ah, so you have realised there were more than two people playing :)

Amazing you think Van Persie played well despite the fact he couldn't have scored any of his goals without two of the people who you think "weren't playing"

But I do love how you can't admit you say ridiculous things.

Olympiakos were poor though even by their own standards, if they had finished better they would have scored 2-3 goals themselves, they also gave away a poor penalty and conceded from a freekick down the keepers throat almost.

I think the biggest difference last night is that all of the key moments went United's way.

The next three Premier League fixtures and quarter finals are going to be the most telling matches, especially now that confidence is high.

It was making a point. They may have been on the pitch, but they weren't 'playing'.

Just as RvP hasn't 'played' for weeks. He may have been on the pitch.

The performance level from everyone else wasn't good enough. Olympiakos could have, and perhaps should have, progressed after last night. They had myriad chances and failed to take them all.

While it was nice to go through, we were somewhat fortunate last night. Olympiakos created better chances than us in open play, which was rather worrying.

I don't think this has much bearing on Moyes, other than the fact it could provide some sort of turning point and allow us to finish the season strongly. If we were able to beat West Ham and then Man City, that would give some real momentum and certainly help Moyes.

Carrick was almost absent, and he's meant to be the guy who does what Giggs ended up doing, playing important/defence splitting balls forward. Instead he's like a marginally better version of Cleverley.

I don't expect us to beat whoever we draw in the next round of the Champions League, as long as we give them a game of it, and show some fight. It's quite possible though, depending on the opponent, that we'll get slaughtered.

Does any of last night show Moyes is the right man to rebuild the team? Unfortunately not.
