Don't Pay UK

How so? Extraction costs remain largely similar but market price for extracted product is massively higher.

Dumb scenario.

Before : Gas price on open market $1 - Extraction cost $0.10
Now : Gas price on open market $4 - Extraction cost $0.11

You see that have made record profits without changing a thing.
Near enough every energy producer is announcing record profits. In a functional, sane World at times of crisis they would be foregoing huge profits to alleviate spiriting costs. Remember these companies make billions every 3 months, they are not running out of money any time soon. They are profiting off the back off natural resources that used to be own by the citizens of the counties that contain them. People are facing real problems and you decide to side with huge obscenely wealthy corporations that could easily forego all profits for the next few years and still have huge financial resources to fall back on.

Something is really wrong with the world when we value capitalism above all else.

Explain to me why these companies would choose to sell below market prices? As I said this is a political failure that has been building over many decades now. I'm not siding with anyone I'm explaining to you the facts but you seemingly still think this is all a few people behind closed doors deciding to jack up the prices by 300%.

It easy though really. We have governments that are supposed to be running things around the world. If the US, G7 and the others nations sat around the table and said right market price is now set at xyz until things stabilise . Bush bosh bash problem solved.

Russia must be loving this one. Another way to put pressure on the West.

As said earlier, this problem has been building for decades. Next time some busybody Karen comes knocking on your door complaining about windmills spoiling the view, you know where you stick your energy bill ....

Is the current climate healthy though? Millions of people will struggle, some can’t stretch at all. Billions and billions being funnelled out of our economy. No money to spend on other things means many businesses are also going to struggle. Why? Because of greed.

It’s never going to get any better, don’t look for it, be happy with what you’ve got.

Because the owners, the owners of this country don't want that. I'm talking about the real owners now, the BIG owners! The Wealthy… the REAL owners! The big wealthy business interests that control things and make all the important decisions.

Forget the politicians. They are irrelevant. The politicians are put there to give you the idea that you have freedom of choice. You don't. You have no choice! You have OWNERS! They OWN YOU. They own everything. They own all the important land. They own and control the corporations. They’ve long since bought, and paid for the Senate, the Congress, the state houses, the city halls, they got the judges in their back pockets and they own all the big media companies, so they control just about all of the news and information you get to hear. They got you by the balls.

I mean, part of it is. They could increase supply and therefore reduce the cost of the resource but why would they do that when they could make just as much and have far more of their product still in their own hands.

Its a borderline racket, just one that functions OK in normal times. Make no mistake these companies are profiteering. The issue is that as a capitalist world we pat companies on the back for it.

That wouldn't actually solve the problem.

Prices are high in Europe because supply is constrained. Supply is constrained because there is less gas coming from Russia, and the infrastructure isn't in place to replace that gas via other sources.

Fixing prices solves the price issue, but not the supply one. And in turn, it would make gas shortages more likely (high prices reduce consumption).

Realistically, the UK has two options:

1. Ride out the storm.
2. Heavily tax or ban gas exports. This would work in the short term, causing a crash in gas prices in the UK. But long-term it would see producers question planned investment in the UK. And it would also make mainland Europe's problems a lot worse, significantly damaging our relationship with our biggest trade partners.
