Rather cack tbh. doesnt offer anything new really. unless im missing something

I like it, I love the field ops kit and the abilities, its great spawning an arty cannon then sitting atop a hil targeting various targets then seeing them perish :D , Love the game but its bug city atm.

I liked it after a few games. Have not played one of these type of games for about a year and a bit ( last one being BF2 which I quit after the epidemic of dolphin diving kicked in - OMG you can't do that in this one can you?!?!?! Have not checked yet.).

So for me maybe it feels a bit fresher. I might pick this one up, however in the end I just get frustrated as I am never as good as I want to be at this genre.

OMG - just checked - it is not out until the 31st August. Might have to pick up BF2142 as this game has whetted the ol' appetite for some online team FPS destruction.

I'm having fun with it.
Totally lied about my specs as well.

I know my system is extremely out of date but I refused to accept the horrible looking default settings it picked for me so with a bit of tweaking, I'm able to run @ 1680x1050 with medium settings and 4x antialiasing. Completely smooth too.

Athlon 2100+ @ 1.84Ghz
1GB PC3200
256MB 6800 ultra

So for anyone with older systems who is worried about not being able to run, just lie about your specs and then once you install the game, bump of the default settings.

I love the theme, but it all seems a bit yesterday to me :(

I'll reserve judgement till it's actually released, but for now, roll on UT2007

Just a little note for everyone, the game looks massively different to the 8800 release demo http://www.gametrailers.com/player/14930.html seen here, apparantly the beta has been "dumbed down" in the graphics department to preserve size, as you will see in that video of the full game the explosions, effects, terrain, textures are all much better. So reserve judgement on the GFX till the game is actually out

OK, I've had a mess with the graphics settings in the cfg file, and played for another hour.

It's not too bad now :)

It's very acccessible for noobs, much more so than BF2 and Co. Nice easy controls. Fast pace. Good team structure. A little tweaking here and there and this could work very well.

There's nothing revolutionary going on here, but yea, as it is I could see myself playing this - despite not being a big fan of this genre :D

The graphics are muck in this beta - wait for the retail version to judge that, but I wouldn't expect miracles - this is not a high polygon game. Don't listen to me tho, I'm not a big fan of Quake engines. They always seemed to take a lot of shortcuts from a graphical point of view.

I've a feeling the new Team Fortress will own this genre, but this still shows promise. I think the full release might convert a few people from BF.

As always, this kind of game will only be as good as the community that plays it. We'll see how it goes :)

Hopefully they'll change the 'Fireteam' system before the release...it's certainly nowhere near as good as the squad system in BF2. Teamplay does seem to be a bit more natural in this one tho...I found myself working with another couple of people in the sewer controls bit quite nicely.

Well I managed to get some more play in last night.

I started out as the Strogg units this time around as they are the ones on the map with the flying units and also the large walker. Again I just could not get over the feeling that the vehicle movement is just not refined. One thing that it is worth noting is that if you abandon a vehicle the enemy cannot aquire it - an irritating system as anyone dumb enough to bail of a perfectly healthy walker/tank deserves to be punished - instead you get to feel like a dumbarse running around the bottom of it whilst they pop you off from afar... super.

The flier was very very sluggish but also woefully unstable making it very difficult to use as a weapons platform (maybe a good thing from a balance point of view). It uses a wait to lock on target system that effectively leaves you as a big floating target for anyone with a rocket weapon equipped.

Any walker lovers out there are just going to loathe the Strogg walker - it's slow, difficult to drive and a poor mockery on the 2142 walkers. It just doesn't have the agility to be of any use against troop units. Once you are within a certain distance of it - i.e. almost next to it, it's a lost cause. Weapons again just aren't that satisfying, just a weak little rocket launcher that is on a very slow cycle. Not a fav unit by any stretch of the imagination.

One vehicle that I really did enjoy is the jump pack. They are very well balanced IMO as in using one you don't get to use your own weapons. They have something that reminded me of the HobGoblins pumpkin bombs that you can launch at around 1.5 second intervals. I think this balances out their awesome mobility with not allowing them to make a troop unit too powerful.

Sniping - awful experience from a Strogg perspective. They don't have sniping weapons exactly more modified projectile weapons with a very odd scoping system. When you engage the scope it does zoom but heavily pixilates - an effect that I just don't understand, why all this time in the future with all these fancy weapons does a sniping scope pixilate? Weird... and a strike against playability.

The Strogg base is a big sprawling facility that makes for some good old fashioned frag battle (if you liked Quake). Lots of random pipes to run into and large pools of water to fall into. It was kinda cool and IMO a somewhat more enjoyable experience being mano-a-mano than running around outside trying to hit bunny hopping Quake players.

It was interesting because there were a large number of players in several of the servers that I played in who were BF2 and 2142 gamers. They almost to a tee had a similar opinion "It's just not a BF2/2142 killer". It lacks the refined nature of the gameplay and the focus of the armed combat. It's a big arcadey arena that has taken it's queues from BF2 and 2142 but has captured none of it's visceral combative nature. Meanwhile the Quake players were all bouncing around shouting "OMGZ0rz 1 4m *** l33t h4><0rz!!!1111one11one..."

ok slight exaggeration but you get the idea - if you loved Quake this is probably the natural progression and the Quake players seem to love it. BF players are much more reserved in their opinions and seem to have their fingers crossed that somewhere between the public Beta (which to be fair is probably as close to the demo version as we're going to get) and the actual game release there is going to be a great deal of refinement. Personally I have my doubts about this happening as it has been created by the Quake team - it's what they know and if we're being realistic there are significantly more people out there that are used to Quake being the mainstream than BF2/2142. Oh and the sound effects bite, tinny pathetic and not at all visceral. Unfortunate because BF2 and 2142s sounds are just spot on. It was a comment that came up from both the Quake players and the BF2 players.

One major bug that i have noticed is when you have dual screen enabled in windows it has a major performance hit!!!

Even when the settings are lowered!

If your running with an NV card with dual display please read Sponges post here
http://community.enemyterritory.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2095

that should fix you up, On a side note ive not had any issues with my HD2900XT other than the expected ;) Dual screed open GL bug.

One thing I really dislike is the deployable becoming useless with only a little damage, so a few strogg can retake the forward spawn quite easilly if the y work together and the GDF can't do a lot about it.

The strogg drone is teriffic fun, buzz it over the GDF soldier's head and then boom he's dead :D

I wass on a server last night where the GDF completed the round in about 4 minutes, we had built the EMP before I managed to get to the forward spawn point! I don't know how they got there so fast, but a friend was on the strogg side and was watching the sewer grate when the explosives got planted by the invisible man so I presume there are glitches to exploit. I just don't understand why people feel the need to glitch, especially in a beta test

IMO, so long as they report the glitches and exactly how they happened and whether they're repeatable etc. it's exactly what people should be doing in a beta test...

I sort of agree, but once you know what the glitch is, repeating it round after round after round probably isn't necessary.

are you sure they weren't planting them on the side of the barrier out of sight ?
Its a good place to put them anyway as you cant be seen though the slots, as for getting there fast, Boost (run button) that Quad bike they go like **** off a stick ;)

Yea the well known dual screen bug, hope this is fixed in the 7.6s  , you say you have not had any other issues, which drivers are you using and are you using AA?

Hows the 2900 run this game anyway tom?

Runs 60fps dosnt go below this, this is of course without AA :( , everything maxed 1680x1050.

running 7.5's here, No I never bothered with AA at 1600 x 1200 it almost seems worthless tbh.

As for your FPS, its locked at 60fps, you can unlock it by adding the following to your config file

com_unlock_timingMethod 2
com_unlock_maxFPS 90 (has to be multiples of 30)

and setting

com_unlockFPS 1

also in the config.
