Dragon Age: The Veilguard

He said the words "trans" and "trump", there's going to be tears, lots and lots of tears.

Well those arn't banned words, they are actual words :p or names rather

But anyway, watching more of these clips there's some terrible writing in the game putting aside the social politics

Played a few more hours but decided to uninstall. The biggest problem I have with it is that I just find it uninteresting and boring. I literally cannot find a single redeeming quality to it and that makes it worth playing further. I can't understand how they could produce a game this bland.

Hope others have a better time with it but for me I think it's time for a palate cleanser. Started a new KCD run a few months ago and it's time to get back and continue it in anticipation for KCD2 in February.

Enjoying is so far.

Same here, the gameplay seems OK and the story is the typical RPG “the world is ending due to some evil dude and only you can stop him/her/them”. The voice acting and dialogue does not seem any worse than most other such cheesy RPGs.

Graphically it’s more than decent and it runs well maxed out for me. The main thing is I have not encountered any janky gameplay elements or dodgy combat issues that have made me think “this might annoy me”.

Looks like another flop. Active player numbers are nowhere near where they should be and it looks like it has already peaked. I guess the refunds are starting to roll in now.

Woke nonsense aside, which is what is killing so many of these big titles. From watching YouTube clips the writing and voice acting is absolutely awful, it's like they just had chatGPT make it. As is the very un-RPG combat.

Hopefully the games industry will learn from some of the recent releases. If they don't, they are going bust..

.. and thats the problem - its supposed to be a Dragonage game from Bioware - not another cheesy RPG.

All the negative reviews seem to say the same thing - dialogue written by committee. Player character talked to like a small child. Extreme handholding at every stage. Everyones nice so as not to "offend". Quality writing is what made Bioware and this series.

It just shows how our standards/expectations have dropped so low when people are happy to accept mediocre

Been reading the reviews from a few people on Reddit...and other than the trolls and outliers, seems to be a majority that is an OK game. 6/7, maybe 7/8 if you go in blind with no expectations of a DA game and take it on it's worth as an action RPG.
Again, same criticisms of overly simplified mechanics and writing; lots of disappointed DA fans especially.

74k online at the moment, thought we'd see 100k tonight, but again, those are not good numbers for a big title like this.

I'm trying to decide between this and Dragons Dogma 2.
I was also going to consider Elden Ring but I tried it for a few hours round a friends house and it's just too hard for me.

Only 74k on steam, does anyone have numbers for people playing through EA as I feel a few people may have gone this route and just paid for 1 month of Play Pro for £17 rather than spend £50 on it.

Dragons Dogma 2 is a fantastic game but it can be a touch unforgiving at times, but nowhere near the level of Elden Ring.

There's a demo on Steam I'd recommend giving a shot.

And that's the problem, if the game had been a new IP it would have got a whole lot less backlash. Given the direction they've went in it frankly should have been, it is however a "Dragon Age" game and rating it on that basis absolutely tanks the score for many.

Looking at the metrics it probably wont crack 80k peak players, looks like its levelling off now and i expect peal player count will now decline day to day, considering BG3 had 10x that many at 875k.

It will be as the shareholders would say a 'disappointment' and has probably only sold 500k-1m copies across all platforms.

I saw the trailers for it and having played all 3 of the previous games (Loved DA:O, Disappointed with DA:2, Enjoyed DA:I), i knew it wasnt for me and that before the pandering became evident. Bioware when it was producing gold is long dead and if Veilguard isnt the stake through the heart, its certainly another nail in its coffin.

Its just really really sad to see.

Good, I hated the original Dragon Age games, they were overhyped tripe.

Not once in the four hours I have played have I felt talked down to, or felt the dialogue was “woke”. One of the first things I did was turn off waypoint and help options. It makes exploring a bit more open and free, though it is a more semi open than linear. It kind of reminds me of the first God of War on PC. Dialogue choices are plenty and do give different outcomes, so no feeling of hand holding during story choices.

You seem like you haven’t even played the game but will insist “all these reviews” are telling the truth?

Is it not a bit paradoxical to imply others are just sheep accepting mediocrity, while listening to the “masses” tell you how to think? How about making your own informed choices?

If it was a new IP no one would even notice it. They'd laugh after the wokeness and not buy it. As Sony found out recently.

I hate to say it. But shareholders need to shut these studios down and purge the activist staff before they do any more damage to the industry. The fans don't want games written by HR.

lol, what wokeness? What a load of nonsense this so called anti woke agenda is.

Is it because you can’t be homophobic and racist in a game, or because derogatory terms are not used to describe minorities?

Oh I know enough people who think all of the above is just “speaking your mind”. I have a word for them people, but I don’t want to be called anti woke ;)

Because the badly written and cringy script they wrote lectures you on it and they baked it in to core gameplay. I don't want that in a game and it looks like most other don't either judging by how poorly it's performing in the steam stats so far.

This and a few other big IPs have been hijacked by political activists and then burned. Look at Starwars recently. Then when people reject it they blame the audience.

Oh you been through the whole game and read the script? Or would it be more accurate to say you haven’t a clue and are just parroting conspiracy nonsense?

It’s funny how people who don’t have the game know the entire script.

Oh boy

*grabs popcorn*

It is all very similar to almost every game release. The same crowd of sheeple decrying games are “woke” and pushing some conspiracy. Ask for evidence and it’s all just stuff they read and they haven’t even tried the game.

It’s a game, no wild conspiracy to undermine your way of life. It’s laughable really how far down some anti woke rabbit holes some people go.
