Dragon Age: The Veilguard

I do 100% get what you mean, particularly in the context of this game, but I don’t think this sentiment is particularly fair tbh. It’s not just about how you treat others, but how others can feel isolated / stressed / on edge (in pretty reasonable ways) and that can make it a very significant part of your life experience and identity.

I was listening to a chat with someone recently who said something about this that made me think… he said:

“people think that ‘coming out as being gay’ is something that you do just once to your parents or whatever but actually, I have to deal with the stress of ‘coming out’ to every single new person I meet.

And I’ve had to deal with that on top of me just figuring out who I am otherwise, and people otherwise getting to know me.”

^ sharing because I think that’s pretty insightful - I didn’t really think of it like that before. Yeah, it’s not your ‘whole identity’… but… it is kind of a big deal, if you do have to deal with it.
What you've quoted is beyond me. Why on earth would I want to know or be interested in an individuals sexuality who is not my partner?! Whether or not, sexuality is a key part of someone's "personality" or not, who cares but then why would you lead an introduction which includes your sexual orientation?! That's seems odd and inappropriate.

Perhaps I'm the dinosaur and this is well off topic for a gaming thread (:

You kind of hit the point here inadvertently. None of us need to know that detail but then again neither should we be dictating that having extra gender/pronoun options in games, or having inclusive dialogue is in any way infringing the rights of heterosexual people. BG3 had such inclusive dialogue and storytelling yet was hailed as a masterpiece. So by all means call out bad gameplay or poor storytelling, but to review bomb a game because you (general you) think it’s forcing a woke message is a bit tinfoil hat quite frankly.

I’m not aiming this at you as a criticism, just pointing out some of the negativity of this (and other games) seems to focus purely on this aspect. There is also a concerted effort to portray the gaming industry as pushing some “woke” agenda against gamers. All I see is more inclusive tolerant content that you can take or leave as per your preference.

I’m an older married heterosexual male and not once have I felt my rights infringed by the fact that a game has inclusive gender neutral content, or that a gay character in a game might show romantic interest. Because I am not that insecure to believe that being tolerant of other people’s rights has eroded mine.

It is off topic so I’ll end it with this post (from my side), but even if you are personally kind and wouldn’t discriminate against anyone, in reality people are judged and viewed as ‘different’ for their sexualities. It’s relatively fortunate to not have to deal with that anxiety on an everyday basis.

People also are viewed differently even if they aren’t ’discriminated’ against. It has nothing to do with ‘waving a flag’ around saying ‘I’m gay’. Put it into a real life scenario; men’s amateur football team, lads lads lads, sharing showers. Might some of the men be conscious if one of the men is gay? Might that gay person also be conscious of what everyone else is thinking (or what others are saying behind his back)? Maybe, maybe not - it’ll be different for everyone. But I can foresee this sort of environment being stressful and I therefore sympathise that life can be stressful to navigate in ways that aren’t stressful for me personally. The same applies across everyday scenarios, just adding nakedness to bombastically illustrate the point.

Again, agreed that it’s off topic so no more from me on it.

Any console player with half a brain would get a single player game on disk so that once they finished it or hate it, they can sell it a few weeks later for about a 5 or 10 £ loss.

I always did that when I had consoles :D

Best part of having a console. Now they trying to make consoles that are digital only... To me it's like:

Yeah it is quite baffling like as if I need more reasons not to buy a console.
It's all good though. I can spend 700 quid and get a PS5 Pro (disc drive £90 + tip)and play games from 4 years ago at the bare minimum acceptable frame rate of 60 FPS.

I also feel the game seems closed in when you compare it to DA:I which is far more open with more freedom and land area to explore, also you are warned some costume armour gives you glitching if you use it, that should not be happening, so in some ways a beta game that needs more bug fixing/polishing etc.... They seem to have gone backwards compared to previous DA games IMHO.

Please fix the cursor arrow keys for movement since these are not assigned to any game key commands in the game. Game has been stable for me but be warned using any ray tracing light effects etc tanks your FPS by about 40% in my case.

I reported the cursor arrow issue bug to EA/Bioware, so lets see what happens, quite a few issues over in their EA/Bioware tech/bug report forum, glad mine is stable and not crashing like some others.

From a gameplay, quality and writing POV it has gone very backwards.

Probably because almost all of the old Bioware talent left after ME2. That's when things started to go downhill for this developer. From hearing insider leaks, apparently the Bioware office is a very toxic place now (like much of the industry) and it shows in the products.

I'm sure I recall the title of a video saying it is their best game since mass effect. 3. That confused me because I was pretty sure mass effect 3 was not particularly well received after the first two.
I'm actually trying to play through the series because I never actually finished it.

It wasn't. The series peaked with 2, which was very good.

They haven't really made anything better since. DA:I was average, not as good as the original.

Their best game is still KOTOR, I don't think they are ever going to top that now.

It wasn't well received. They ended up re-writing the ending ( post release ) to conform with peoples expectations.

Veilguard is the worst of the DA games IMHO, my favourite was the first DA:O game, DA:I was ok since you had open freedom to explore, crafting was ok as well, shame they dumb down the skills.
When you consider how much time they had for Veilguard to be completed, well they wasted a lot of it somehow.

Good, I hated the original Dragon Age games, they were overhyped tripe.

Amazing.

This is the entire crux of the issue and it astounds me profit making businesses either don't get it or refuse to address it. Progressivism is just a symptom.

s it because you can’t be homophobic and racist in a game, or because derogatory terms are not used to describe minorities?

Remember when you could role play as a bad person?

They didn't rewrite the ending, they JUST added a few extra screenshots with text and a small voice over to give better closure to a fantastic series. The quality of the ending was nowhere near the quality of the series as a whole.

With regards to peoples expectations, this was their fault. It was Casey Hudson who openly stated that the we would be getting three distinct endings for ME3, all we got was red, blue and green ending.

Semantics. After many complaints ( including a petition to the FTC ) they released a free DLC expansion which retconned some of the major plot points / ending in an attempt to bring better closure to the narrative they spun.
