Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Seems like there's a lot of frothing at the mouth on both sides to me.

Interesting that you hated the other games but seem to quite enjoy this one @ICDP, not that there's anything wrong with that but it's a pretty good indication for long term fans of the franchise.

It is all very similar to almost every game release. The same crowd of sheeple decrying games are “woke” and pushing some conspiracy. Ask for evidence and it’s all just stuff they read and they haven’t even tried the game.

It’s a game, no wild conspiracy to undermine your way of life. It’s laughable really how far down some anti woke rabbit holes some people go.
Dude, like what are you banging on about. What other game had this kind of crap surrounding it. The problem a lot of us have is the fact that these journalists have CLEARLY lied about aspects of this game, saying stuff like 'it's the best of Bioware', the best, really? I am sure this game has good aspects/features but a lot of it is pushing an agenda, and clearly people I don't like that. You can have great characters that are trans, gender neutral, or whatever without the need for it to be a lecture.

The only game potentially worse than this is the dodgy Nintendo DS Sonic game they released back in the 2000's, perhaps Andromeda imo.

Putting aside the gender ideology. This is what I mean by being good and evil. In Origins you can be a right ****, but in this game you can try to be a right **** but it's still rather nice

From those that have played it have also said you can't kick your companions out ala BG3

The writing is hot garbage, I've seen enough to know that without having to play it.

I'm not putting down £50 on a lengthy game I potentially can't refund to get into the meat of (for context, Steam is 2 hours within 2 weeks. Console players are screwed), in order to find out it's exactly what I was concerned it would be. Nobody sane would, you can see a lot from just observing footage and talking to people you trust on the subject. To argue that people can't know without putting in 50 hours is absolutely ridiculous, and extremely poor financial advice in a market where people are already struggling and it might be the one big "entertainment" spend they get to make for however long.

Any console player with half a brain would get a single player game on disk so that once they finished it or hate it, they can sell it a few weeks later for about a 5 or 10 £ loss.

There is a lot of skills to learn and three specialization for my mage at level 20, however only 4 skills in shortcut slots ie keyboard 1,2,3 and (4 is your ultimate skill, massive damage). So basically you are only using 2 or three skills max at a time, my number 3 slot is still empty at the moment, by the time we get to Dragon Age 7 probably only one skill slot will be available for a mage lol. So a bit annoying you will have to keep swapping skills in and out all the time or just use your favourite skills throughout the game for 1,2,3,4 key slots.

I don't like the inventory either, seems worst then DA Inquistion.Voice acting is not great, the game is holding my interest but nothing wow factor and definetly a game a lot of people should buy when the price is in bargain basement rather then what it is now. I enjoyed DA:Inquistion more so far then this game and I have played all the DA games.

Nowhere near best DA game IMHO, I'm at level 6 now and done enough to get the feel of the game. More of a console game then PC game ie dumb down etc...

Your sexuality is not your identity

I do 100% get what you mean, particularly in the context of this game, but I don’t think this sentiment is particularly fair tbh. It’s not just about how you treat others, but how others can feel isolated / stressed / on edge (in pretty reasonable ways) and that can make it a very significant part of your life experience and identity.

I was listening to a chat with someone recently who said something about this that made me think… he said:

“people think that ‘coming out as being gay’ is something that you do just once to your parents or whatever but actually, I have to deal with the stress of ‘coming out’ to every single new person I meet.

And I’ve had to deal with that on top of me just figuring out who I am otherwise, and people otherwise getting to know me.”

^ sharing because I think that’s pretty insightful - I didn’t really think of it like that before. Yeah, it’s not your ‘whole identity’… but… it is kind of a big deal, if you do have to deal with it.

Not sure I follow the logic of having to buy and play a game to determine if it's up to par. In this day and age with Twitch streamers etc consumers can watch gameplay for themselves and find out that way if it suits their tastes or not. From what I've seen on various streams ( Cohh's, for example ) the writing is truly awful. And for a narrative driven RPG, that's a critical failure.

Read the post you quoted, I was not talking about the game itself, but the conspiracy nonsense that some have spouted about it being being woke.

Putting a dialogue option for gender neutral people is not woke, it’s just an option you don’t need to pick. The same people were complaining about the fact they/them was a pronoun choice in Starfield. Or that BG3 had some male characters try to initiate romantic gay relationships with your character.

Don’t like those option then don’t pick them. Having those options in games does not impact your rights, nor is it trying to force an agenda. It is literally just catering to other people’s choices.

I'm just replaying BG3, and Astarion did precisely that. Not that it bothered me, he's an amusing and well written character overall.

Yes, it was one of the recent things these anti woke mob were getting upset about and calling some great game developer conspiracy to force wokeness upon them. I mean on what planet do you need to be to conclude having such options in games is anything more than a choice to have some inclusivity for minorities.

You've been waiting for it, and here it is!

Worth A Buy - Dragon Age The Veilguard is UP

Says the same thing as a lot of people.. His words below

Huge wasted opportunity here to make a spectacular RPG, they had the artists, sound and even the combat could have been worked to be great but nooooo they chose to pander to the tiny percentage of people that pretty much don't give a bleepabout video games and release this festering pile of RPG rubbish, no one wins, we all lose. At least they are the ones loosing all the money.
